  5. Hey everyone, Hit little manly on Saturday night chasing tailor and what ever could be on the bottom. Arrived about 9:50pm. had prawns pilchards and squid for bait. My mate who I was with got his line out first and straight away on to little snapper. I got my float out hoping for some tailor. Got a kind out on the bottom and over the next hour we got 5 small snapper and a flounder which went 32cm which we kept. About 11:30 two other mates rocked up and brought snags for the free BBQ there. I rigged up some rods for them. One of my mates hooked on to something huge and we all watched as the 15lb braid disappeared. Eventually the fish snapped off. We are thinking wow what the hell was that. I re rigged up the rod and gave it to my mate. It was in the water all of 10min when the same thing happened. I don't have a clue what it was but it looked huge. The next few hours we caught 10 barracouta. Pretty sure that's what they I didn't have a camera and my phone had died. I don't know much about them but they have some serious teeth. They were all taken under floats targeted for tailor. All went quiet for s little bit with a few small snapper and some more flounder. Eventually one of the rods went off which had a whole squid and brought in a 1m port jackson shark. About this tone the wind picked up and everything stopped. We stuck it out till morning to see if any salmon would appear but nothing do went home. Martin
  6. Hey mate I hit curl curl up last Friday morning and got 5 salmon and list one I a 2 hour period. Using half pillies on a pantosta rig.
  7. Hey mate, I normally have a patanosta rig with both half of the pillie on. I have has both go but the head stays on better but if you have salted pillies everything stays on. Martin
  8. Hi everyone, I love my beach fishing I would rather go fishing off the beach then anywhere else. Over my last 5 sessions at the beach I have noticed something with the pillies and how I use them which has had me scratching my head. When I first started beach fishing I would go put on a whole pillie and star sinker and fish. I would sometimes go a few sessions with out a fish and if u got a fish I would only get one. Last year around November I was up on north entrance beach and was fishing for bream using half pillies or smaller prices while the whole pillie was out. I ended up with two salmon on the half pillies and nothing on the full one. I thaught maybe just a coincidence do I tried again the next mornning and it happened again the half was hammered while the full was not touched. This has now happened a again twice 5 weeks ago off manly beach where I got 2 salmon and a tailor and topped off on Friday with 5 salmon of Curl Curl. Now me and my mate are wondering if this has been happening to anyone else because we find it weird that the fish have not been taking whole baits if it was off the same beach we could understand but it has happened off 3 different beaches now. Also if this is happening is if just beach or other places? Martin
  9. Hey shannan nath, My mate took them. Apparently the kiwis love to eat it and he is having a big family BBQ tonight and cook up all 5.
  10. Hey everyone, Headed down to curl curl beach this morning. My mate who just got married asked if I could take him and his family fishing before they go back to new Zealand. Got to the beach at about 4:40. Everything rigged up and in the water by 5:10. Was quiet at first then at about 6:30 everything happened. In a span of 2 hours we got 5 salmon and lost 1. At one point I threw the bait out and before I could flip the bail over the fish had it and was running. All the fish were caught on half pillies the full pillie was not touched. This has been the case for the last few times I have hit the beach. I did not weight the fish but they went 63, 61, 59, 55 and 46cm. This was the best session I have ever had off a beach and is why I love beach fishing. Martin
  11. Hey mate, Can't say much about bream because I have not cracked one on a plastic yet. For flathead I do most of my spinning up at wallis lake in Forster. It took me about a year and half to crack it and then one day it just all stuck together. Like the poster said above me get a couple of DVDs they helped me. As for plastics for flathead I do not have a faviortie plastic type just colour. In the nice clear water I find anything pink works best. If the water is dirty gold colour. You will find everyone will say something different they like and it all works. As for technique I like 2 -3 quick flicks and the fish mostly take the lure on the way down and when you go to flick it again bang the fish is there. Hope this helps. Martin
  12. Hey people, There are a few spots I keen to have a go at over the next couple of weeks some I haven't fished in years one is new just looking for some info on each spot. Abbotsford wharf- I haven't fished here for about 3 years. It was one of my favourite spots. Just wondering can you still fish off the whatf or do you get kicked off now? Also if I can't get a spot on the wharf dose the reserve next to it fish alright for jewfish if I get some live bait from around the wharf? Blues point- haven't fished here for a very long time, same as Abbotsford just looking for information if you can still fish there. Peir 2 - at mate at work was telling me of this spot. He said he hasn't fished it in a while and would not be surprised if it was banned from fishing so same question again. Also looking for a street name it is on because my mate can not remember. All help is very appreciated Type this on my iPhone so hopefully not to many spelling mistakes Martin
  13. Went down to manly beach this mornning to see what was around. For there early mornning and put out a pillie and rigged up my Jew rod incase I got some thing for live bait. I eventually picked up a 28cm whittling and decided to chuck that out as live bait. After about an hour the pillie rid goes off and first salmon of the mornning 56cm. Was happy after that and really didn't care if I didn't get anything else. Soon after I threw the salmon back thd Jew rod goes of. I run over and hook it but I felt weird, I. Plus feel head shakes but not much of a fight eventually I pull in a salmon that still had the whitting in its mouth. This salmon went about 6-7 kg one of my biggest salmons I have caught. Went quiet for awhile picking up two flattys both under size. I decided to pack up and while that was happening the rod goes off again this time a 54cm tailor which was very think around back. Decided that was breakfast and headed of home around 7:30am. Martin
  14. Mate it all depends on where you are fishing like when I'm at Forster I find hot chip is the best, either floating on the surface or sinking slowly the bream love it and they are big bream as well. If in the parra river I find yellowtail fillets are the best. I've lost count on how many big bream I have caught chasing jew with yellowtail fillets. Martin
  15. Good stuff mate on the salmon. In thinking of hitting up a beach for salmon this weekend if the weather is good. Just a question have you ever landed a Jew on a salmon fillet? I normally use salmon for shark bait but never really thaught of it as a Jew bait. Martin
  16. Hey everyone, I'm going to be in manly on Saturday night and figured that if I'm in the area I might go down go manly beach and throw a bait in. Just wondering if the beach fishes any good for salmon and tailor? Also if I were to put out a shark bait is there any chance of picking up a shark? Martin
  17. Very nice fish mate, going to be in Manly on Saturday night might have to go down to manly beach and give it a go
  18. Hey mimyo, I was using pilchards and hawkesbury prawns for the jewfish 6 caught on pilchards and 4 on prawn
  19. I need some advice on how to hook live yellowtail. For years I have used a singal hook just behind the head of the fish and this has worked for me now and then but over last few trips I have done at little manly cove and WB I have had the live bait bitten right up to thd hook. While at manly it happened twice so moved the hook to the back of the fish and it never got touched. On the weekend I put the in the back of the fish and happened again but the other way around. Is this just very unlucky or is there away of hooking it up with two hooks with out killing if quickly? Martin
  20. Went out to WB last night after some hairtail. Originally planned to be on the water by 4 but things happen and didn't get on the water till 6. I put in a apple tree bay and went around to WB. There was already 42 boats out whiched looked pretty amazing. Found some deep Water between two boats anchored up and started to burley. Nothing happened for the first few hours and was a little slow then all of a sudden everything started going off. The rods that were down for thd hairtail continued to be pulled down but I cox not hook what ever it was. Then the lines on the bottom started going off. In two hours I landed 10 jewfish using 4lb line which made it fun. I got 4 small 2 around 80cm and 4 around 50cm. 1 big one and small one went In the ice along with a few bream to end a good night Martin
