  1. Great stuff mate.......let's see some pictures! Kingfish sashimi sounds fantastic. Still waiting for my Kingy cherry to pop. Gotta gets me some of those squid I guess, cause the yaka's I use aint bringing in squat.
  2. What sort of gear and lures were you guys using for the Dollies?
  3. Just wondering......what time of day were you on the water? Your visitors must have had a hoot with sort of action.
  4. Was on PW mid November with my 7 y/o son near Scotland island. He was chopping/mashing some pillies and throwing them in when a modest sized kingy comes to the side of the boat. He quickly drops his line with a pilly chunk on it right in front of the kingies nose and bang, off he goes. Possibly the easiest hookup in the world short of drift netting. Rod buckles and the reel is screaming. He's on 8lb line and 4kg rod with a 1000 spinning reel. It was never going to end well. He's holding and holding and I tell him "let him run, let him run", but he grabs the drag and tightens it up and ping! Lost the whole rig and a nice fish. He was bummed, and I had a laugh and said "did you learn your lesson? Never take a knife to a gun fight!" Better luck next time.
  5. Which plastics were you using mate for targeting the flatties?
  6. Nice job Trung. Managed to pull a sambo myself out of the water that was literally boiling yesterday with fish, but dang if I couldn't get into the bonnies. Gotta get me some of those glassy SP's. Which brand are they? And regards to the squid....yummy....arguably better tasting than any fish. Do you anchor or drift for the squid? The wind picked up big time yesterday and made drifting more like driving without the motor on. Damn that nor' ester.
  7. I thought it was illegal to catch WHALES! Bring on the vid!
  8. I'm having no luck in the Bay at all. Biggest thing I caught yesterday was a Squire about 20 cms long. Nothing big enough to keep. :-( Tried Towra Pt, The Channel, The Groynes, Molli Pt, The Cans........nuttin'! Tried Hawkesbury Prawns, Worms, SP's and HB's. Nuttin'! Tried either side of the high tied.........you guessed it...nuttin'! May have to enlist some members help to help me unlock the Bay. BTW: Did anyone else have their safety gear checked by the police around lunch time back at the BR? Lucky I had everything I needed. Baffler
  9. Fortunately not. I noticed it pretty quickly, stopped and hauled down as much as I could. Felt like a goose cause I blocked the road whilst wrestling the stuff down. Thought it was funny later though. I just can imaging someone walking under the tree one day and having a squid jig drop on their head and wondering where the hell it came from. If that happens to you, you'll know who to call. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/public/style_emoticons/default/074.gif Roger that on the game plan. Good idea! I got a check list for the gear.....just need to expand it a little and never rush the process. That's when mistakes happen.
  10. Were you in the swell there, or was it out of the wave action?
  11. Yep. I've left the bungs out too! But fortunately I noticed before I detached the boat from the trailer so I just drove out, let it drain, put them in, and relaunched. Phew! Now I've trained my six year old son to always ask me before we put the boat in if we've got the bungs in. That said, I frequently forget the plug for the live bait tank, which only fills when you're driving. Drive for a couple of minutes with the plug out and if gets seriously wet back there. Thank god I installed an electric bilge pump. Seems like every time I go out, I have some sort of new incident, varying from the trivial, to the down right stupid. Last week I didn't take down the rods from rocket launcher after loading it on the trailer and the lines got stuck in a tree overhanging the road whilst driving off......left a lot of terminal gear up there!
  12. I second that......I fish from the Hacking a bit and have never caught a squid. Where did you pick them up. I've never seen so many squid, not even in a fish shop!
  13. Ah! That makes more sense. What were you using for bait then?
  14. You caught all that on squid jigs around the Hacking and Bate Bay? My hat goes off to you mate. Baffler
  15. Did you keep them or return them? I'm not passing judgment, rather, I'm just curious if the fish are ok to eat from the Cooks river. It strikes me as a little polluted. Hope I'm wrong, cause I'd love to try and catch a feed there. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where exactly did you catch them in the bay? I'm having no luck in the bay.
  16. Wow! Thanks for the feedback fellow fishers. I'm a little surprised that the eastern section of the harbour bridge has a recommendation on it, so I will be careful how much I take from there. I'll search around for more info on the Georges. Can't imagine it being as bad as the harbour as there was no Homebush Bay to pollute the place. BTW, went fishing in the Hacking today and caught nothing worth remembering. Baffler
  17. G'Day, Newbie here. Just getting into cruising around Sydney's waterways (the Harbour, Botany Bay, Georges River, Port Hacking) with the boat I just bought, and wetting a line with the family. Trouble is, from what I'm hearing from this forum, it may not be wise to be keeping even the legal fish that I catch. Is there any official recommendation on which fish are ok to keep (from a low/no dioxins point of view) that are in and around Sydney's waterways. It would be ashame to throw all those nice Bream, Whiting, and Flatties that I catch back, but it would also be stupid to eat them if they're full of pollutants. Any guidance there? Baffler
