  1. Well done I have only caught one, it was around 60cm and my knees were weak. Not sure my heart caught handle one that big:) Did you use a live yellowtail on a single hook?
  2. They were out from Waratah bay. You can't miss them.
  3. Finally broke the draught with 2 just legal tailor and dropped 3 at the boat We should have bagged out considering the amount of fish. The water just errupted with tailor boiling on the serface and about 30 birds appearing from no where. Each time we got to the schools they moved on. So we began trolling an picked up 1. Maybe if we had a sounder we could have found the school when they went deep?
  4. Thanks Stewy. As a newbie I was wondering what the process was.
  5. Just thought I would through some dates into the mix How does the 12th Aug - 14th Aug sound?
  6. I would be in for a pittwater social. Are the kids welcome? Apple tree bay isn't a bad spot either. I launch from Abay the 9 out of 10 times so I am biased and if the fish aren't bitting there is a little coffee shop that does a good cofee.
  7. Hi Raiders, It was a great day on the water yesterday. We started at the rail bridge around 7am for a nice little flatty, but after that it was hard going until about 1 in the arvo for a legal bream. We had a number of throw backs. My first EP and my first Estuary Spotted Cod. I am starting to get the speicies count up this year. If I can catch my first Kingie by the end of the year I will be wraped!! Happy fishing guys and gals. CC
  8. Hi All, Looking at doing some camping and fishing with the family. Has anyone done any camping down at crosslands? I was just wondering what the facilities are like for the wife and 2 young kids. I have searched the net but can't find any reports.
  9. We managed 6 last night at WB and dropped about the same number once we got too cocky. It was our first crack at them so we were pretty happy considering a lot of boats have been going home with a cold bum and no fish. One thing we did different from the crowd was berley hard. As soon as the berley stop the fish stopped. We also varied our technique. Leaving the bait just swinging in the breeze didn't seem to do it. We had to be on the one rod the whole time feeling the bites and varying the depth to find them. A couple of old-salts told us they have been on the feed for about a 3-4hr period and after that period that have been pulling the pin. Just finished cooking all of them up and the flesh is nice but they are full of bones . What is the best way to get rid of these bones and enjoy a nice feed of fish?
  10. Thanks for the advice. The size of those Kings just got me a bit excited I don't know the reefs that you mentioned. How many mins would it take to get to closest one? We mainly fish in Cowan creek and the Hawkesbury, are there any reefs closer/safer they we might be best to start with? Cheers, cc
  11. I am yet to catch a king, so I am keen to get to Texas How long does it take to get out to the reef? I have a 4.2m runabout with a 25hp, so it would have to be a calm day. What ramp do you normal lauch from?
  12. Hi Guys, Just to test the theory I went down to Cowan Creek on Sunday for a LB fish. Caught a mullet and a legal bream on some dough. While I was there I was asking all the guys & gals coming in to the ramp how they went. The response was "Not a bite!" This was from 9am-6pm, so it seems to effect fishing during the day? My mate went down 6 and fished til 10pm. He didn't get a bite and neither did anyone around him!!! I wonder if it has something to do with Westerly winds? CC
  13. Hi Guys, Just been for a fish down at Cowan Creek and Flint N Steel. It was absolutly dead. No bites at all. Could only manage 1 yellowtail from West Head. I have heard a few guys mention when the water is glowing with phosphorescence things seem very slow or no bites at all. Just wanted to know everyone elses experience. Cheers, CC
  14. Hi Guys, Just getting back in to fishing and I am looking at getting a budget sounder. I would be using the sounder in the Hawkesbury,Pittwater and Cowan Creek. Looking at spending around $100-$300. I have seen CONDOR F-238 200KHz for about $99. What are the most important things when looking for a black/white finder? Thanks, CC
  15. Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. My next questions is which is a ok budget sounder. I will create another post for this one Thanks, CC
  16. Hi All, I am just new to the group. I have just started to fish Cowan Creek and I have been told: 1) There is little to no real structure in Cowan Creek so a fish finder is not really necessary. 2) I have also been told there is reef a) That runs down pretty much the whole of Smith's Creek? Coal & Candle creek also has reef? Hope someone can help out. Also are there many people from the group that fish Cowan Creek? I have been told it is a really tricky spot. Thanks, CC
