  1. Hi Damon7, I am following thus thread with interest. I have what they refer to as a pocket game boat. My contribution to this thread is to warn you of the costs related to running a larger boat, particularly re-powering.. If you can, I would highly recommend finding something that already has the power that you need! Unless of course you are paying a "hull only" price and are prepared to over capitalise on a very old boat. The bigger the boat the more the costs rise exponentially. Don't get me wrong, I spent many days as a pre teen on my uncles Savage Bluefin and I recall it being very capable vessel. But you are looking at a very old boat with all the associated issues - who knows what else will need to be done. If your are happy to spend the big bucks to build the boat you want, then go for it. If the boat doesn't already do want you want, have a serious think about it. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best outcome. Good luck.
  2. Hi Pato1993, Hard to tell the nature of the stain from a photo but looks like spray tan stain ! You could try using a 'magic sponge' We have found them to be very effective on vinyl and fibreglass. Sellys mould remover can also work as that is a bleach based product.....might be ok on vinyl. Good luck

    Solar charger

You are right....Whoops....should read "20 watt"

    Solar charger

Agree with xerotao above. You can get a 20 amp panel from most boating suppliers / 4wd outlets as well as a simple controller. Easy to set up for top up charging. You can use a cigarette lighter type connector to plug the battery to the controller for easy connect / disconnect. Visit one of the outlets, if they have half decent knowledge, you should be able to walk out with a solution! Will pm you some information that might help.
  5. Where abouts are you in Sydney?
  6. Might pay to speak directly (email) Simrad. I did this with my questions when I was looking and found them helpful. Alternatively speak with one of their distributors here. Good luck- let us know how you go.
  7. Be cautious with that, You need to allow for the thickness of the fibreglass. Measure twice as they say!
  8. Hi Cladone, My choice was the Simrad evo 3. I found that for me, it was easiest to use with both touch screen and dial to navigate through. I like the quality and clarity of the screen. I am using the 9 Inch as my GPS, but bought it for the above reasons and it's versatility. I have pounded from the harbour to Hawkesbury and back quite a few times and have had no failures. I bought it after researching what I thought I wanted and getting a great deal at the boat show ( remember them? Lol) I will eventually use it for both gps and sounder..when my koden dies...
  9. I am not aware of why you wouldn't be able to. Word of warning though.... At any sort of speed, the kayak is likely to overturn, whilst not a serious problem if there is no one and no equipment in it, it can be a pain in the neck! And make sure you don't reverse over the tow rope ..... Bring the kayak to the side of your boat before reversing. Otherwise you may have a less than fun day! Not that I have ever made such a silly mistake.....
  10. In regards to Steber, they have been around for a very long time, and used to have a reputation for being helpful with information. They also still have a good reputation for building quality boats. Pretty sure they did not use timber stringers, but not sure about transoms. They are located in Taree and might be able to give you definite information, which is always better than the "I knew a bloke who had a mate who had one..." anecdotal information. Give them a call, let us know what you find out. Good luck

    Swapping seats

I can see a flush mounted hatch ring in the image. Obvious question.... Does that give you any way to see the underside of the existing pedestal? To see what reinforcement is there?

    Swapping seats

Can you show us what the pedestal looks like in situ? Your issue is going to be where you ate fixing the new seat, and what you are fixing it to.
  13. Is it VRO? When the VRO fails, in my experience, they over oil. In my case large amounts of unburned oil through the exhaust, particularly after a period of extended lay up. I had oil under the cowling and running down the leg (the outboards, not mine!), as well as black unburned oil from the prop exhaust. If that is your issue, replacement is expensive. I chose to replace mine, but the cheaper and probably more reliable alternative is to convert to premix by installing a blanking kit to the VRO. Good luck, I hope you get it properly diagnosed and sorted.
