  1. 40-60cm are the best on the tooth, and get the best fillets. I release anything I don't need. If I had visitors and caught 2 over 70, I'd keep them. I'm allowed to, and stocks are healthy (healtiest they've ever been IMO!) so why not.
  2. Saltist. All Okuma gear I've used (quite a bit of it) has failed. Never had any probs with the Saltist 4500H. I also use a Saltist LD30H to livebait and it's never given me probs. Just make sure you take the bail arm assembly apart the second you take it out of the box and lube it up, as the roller has little-no grease and will seize. And do it regularly. And I don't see how your gear will cop a beating if yopu treat it with respect? Yes, they all gt rock rash, but they shouldn't be thrown around anyway. And if you're serious and do lay into big fish, you don't want to be using cheap gear!
  3. I mix it up mate, and stay mobile. Early morns or arvo's on dusk. I only spin there too, especially in summer, as it's only a spinning ledge. Bait fisho's just get in the way and wreck the system. And honestly, the locals will let you know it!! White or gold Xraps and B52's have had the best hits for me, and black poppers.
  4. How does a reel have HUGE CASTING DISTANCE? (Bam! Whack! KAPOW!) Are you spinning, livebaiting, flicking mega plastics, pillie tossing? Where are you using it? Do you want a 1 or 2 peice? For $120 i'd just go to ****** and buy their most expensive rod. Best to get the best of crap gear than the crappest of good gear.
  5. don't feel bad about talking a big flattie every now and then. Stocks are healthy, and you ARE allowed to. Imagine if all Kings went female and bred at 70cm... Everyone would still take them regardless. At least you had the thought.
  6. I've hooked plenty more BIG Kings at Terrigal than any other spot on the coast, but it's a %%%%% of a spot to land decent fish. Crowds are just as bad at winney now as they are Avoca, in fact, Terrigal is my little sanctuary on the coast. Not to many idiots and fishes as good/better than the others. North is good though in those places mentioned. If you don't like crowds, google Earth and get your hiking boots on. If you seriously want to find the perfect spot with no crowds, you have to do the leg work (hour+ walks). They do exist. I have 4 on the coast that I only tell to those I trust enough to fish with me. All found by solid research. Spend a weekend exploring without a rod.
  7. I've never not seen them in a servo bait freezer... But it might be because they cultivate them here on the Central Coast, so there's better supply...
  8. Sign-a-rama will. It's just a small banner to them. Artwork takes an hour to do on Photoshop and they just copy your file onto their computer. They'll make small orders for a good price too, all depends on how you approach them. Surely there's a raider that makes signs that can help??
  9. They never left the coast..... just thinned out. We were catching them all through the year. The plague schools should be back this week due to the water temp. A few early beakies behind them too.

    Fish ID Please!

Keep them next time and drop them 'round here on your way home. Great bait, dead or alive
  11. True, but his reel will handle braid better than mono as it's designed for it. Mono will twist up and cause dramas. Keep up old man! Mono is horrible stuff for spinning, especially with eggbeaters. The technology is, use it to your advantage. Too many old boys are too set in their ways and don't even try new techniques/gear. You're better off getting GOOD braid and looking after it, it will last longed than mono and will get a better cast. I used 15lb Iron braid and 30lb FC Rock (by sunline) Fluro. Only about 2-3ft, joined with an FG. DON'T use and albright with fluro, it will pull through. And a double uni wll slap against the guides too much.
  12. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/teen-drowns-in-rock-fishing-accident-20111004-1l7kx.html When will these idiots wake up? This is EXACTLY why I don't take people to go rock fishing with me unless they're willing to dedicate the time into learning what they're doing first. And why I completely disagree with the posting of reports with specific locations on the net. "Oh, I heard they get good fish there, let's go on Saturday and fish it".....
  13. If it's in braid, it pretty much ties itself...... If it's in mono, just take your time and it should be fine. I don't think you're tying a bimini if it's sliding, it doesn't allow anywhere in the knot to slide...

    live bait

you're either overloading the bucket or stressing them out. You should be able to keep 4 or 5 yakkas in a standard bucket all day with 2 or so water changes. If they're dying on your hook, you're pinning them wrong. They should either get dead-by-mouth or die of boredom...
  15. Why 24kg? Chasing Marlin? 10-15kg is all you need.
  16. Big fish, playing with it and spitting it out again. Try bridle rigging, offset hooks (with the offset pointed up) Like Black Magic KS7/0's, and fishing on rougher days where the fish don't have time to play with it, they've just gotta hit it. Also, unlike the rest of avoca, hold your rod and be ready all the time, don't just stick it in a crack and hope for the best.
  17. No idea, my friend. In fact, the complete opposite.
  18. Just chuck 'em in. I've used the same ones 3 or 4 times and they're fine. Still pull fish too Soapies love them.
  19. Do you want the temp in the middle of the bay at the deepest point, or on the shallows after a full day of sun? It's all different.
  20. Um.... LANGUAGE WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not something you want to watch with your 9yo!
  21. That's awesome. I'd go, but I'd rather do something else. Like um, fishing. Or stabbing myself with a spoon. While standing on a cactus. And listening to Julia Gillard tell the truth. And attaching electrodes to my nipples. And watching another season of Masterchef. In a room full or wasps.
  22. Prob best to wait till thee water warms up a bit, fish will generally be lathargic in cooler water so less likely to hit surface. Maybe pump some nippers and sight-cast them in the shallows. I always just google the area with 'fishing' on the end when after a general idea of new areas. Sometime takes a bit of trolling through useless websites (and ads!), but will find some gold in the end.
  23. Salmon never leave..... Unfortunately....
  24. Nice bag mate.. All of my favourite eating fish too
  25. Learn to tie an FG, and an albright as backup. The bimini double to albright is great too for extra strength. The bimini is &^%$ easy to tie in braid too. a couple of notes on all of them too- FG- perfect for running through guides. I always tie a longer leader and shorten it as required due to knots/abrasion. The knot will last forever if tied properly. Albright- don't bring it back through the guides, it will not last and you'll lose lures on cast. I think it's as strong as an FG though, when not cast through. Bimini double to albright- the bimini is fine to cast through, but again, not the albright. Even worse in this case because the albright will be twice as thick due to the double. It can even rip guides apart! You also have to make sure that the double is exactly the same length when you tie the albright, or you'll end up with one tight and one loose, and it'll fail like the titanic. The albright can also get trickier to tie as you're dealing with 4 strands of line that all have to fall into place. The other thing is, the doubling of braid can use a lot and get expensive, so you don't want to stuff it up too often. At least keep some old stuff to practice with!
