Top job Tara. Looks like that water is fishing very well. Been much rain over that way? I suspect a lot more than here where the fishing can only be described as "dreadful", for December. Still, we keep trying and I'll be hitting the Murrumbidgee again after Christmas in Canberra. Cheers, bn

    Thanks Neil.

Yes there has been a fair amount of rain over the last month or so.

This is a skinny creek before it joins up to Broughton creek a couple of k's further down. The water was up a good couple of meters and raging through a couple of weeks ago and is still moving through enough to be pushing the yak around when usually you can just sit still and cast away.

It needs a good flush out every now and then, gets a bit stagnant and there are a lot of cows that use it for drinking water so can get a bit stinky. So it's good at the moment and plenty of vegetation.

Kids will be keen for a paddle and fish over the Xmas break. The Bass love garden worms and the girls love hunting for them.

Hopefully you will get onto some fish near Canberra. Good luck mate and merry Christmas. :)

Nice work Rah! It’s a blast, fishing for bass from a yak. Something I’ve always enjoyed doing and should do it more often! Good luck next week!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

I Love it. One of my fave species to catch and release. Haha.

Might even try for a Xmas eve evening sesh.

Sounds like a great session and worth getting wet for.

Its such a nice area around there. Always cool fishing in around dairy country for wild bass.

How good is it down there. Always so quiet and peaceful until there is a boof on the surface!

Lucky for me, my folks property runs along the creek. 😀😀

  3. G'day Raiders,

Had a quick bass bash this morning on Broughton mill creek.

Have been itching for a bass fish and they didn't disappoint with 4 fish in the first 4 casts.

Almost every cast had a hook up, hit or follow for the first 30 mins.

Targeted the best looking snags first and after pulling a few fish from each it died off a bit. Ventured further up the creek and landed the biggest of the morning at approx 37cm

Well over 10 bass landed and countless hits in the 1.5 hours or so.

Love how even a smaller bass can pull like a freight train.

Fishing from a crappy yellow yak that is in no way set up for fishing was a bit of a challenge and with the rain setting in I was soaked in no time.

Will be back to try the other end of the creek hopefully later in the week hopefully with one of my yaks.

Most bass caught on soft shell cicada and a couple on a hard cicada (can't remember the type but can find out of anyone wants to know) 2500 diawa reel and a 2-4 rod.

    Cheers

You can't beat a bit of fishing therapy to change a bad mood into a good one Rah. Hope you manage a few bigger models, but...a fish is a fish. Cheers, bn

Cheers BN. You sure can't. I don't even mind that they are small 😀

  5. G'day Raiders,

After a week of bad luck with burning through a clutch and then the fly wheel melting, there was only 1 thing for it. Flattie therapy. They did not disappoint this morning.

My usual spot down at shoalhaven heads before heading to work produced 9 small flatties in 2 hours.

They are still on the smaller size from last year but better in numbers.

Was a great way to relax and de stress after a s#%&ty week.

All caught on a light diawa combo 1/8 jig head, zman minnow in bloodworm/a red colour that had leeched into it, run out tide.

Good to see them back on in numbers.

    Cheers

  6. Welcome Oz,

I live in the illawarra and never manage to get any. I usually head down to the shoalhaven. there must be fish in the lake somewhere though ?. Jump on google maps and find some spots that you can access and walk along to cast.  The power station near dapto usually has people fishing there so might be a go, but have never caught anything there. Was getting good sized bream in mullet creek about 8 years ago but no go recently.  i know people that often have success at Kanahooka point.

There are also a few jetties along berkley that would be worth chucking some SP's off.

    Cheers

    Rah
