    Cooks River

Just called fisheries. Hand held line is a generic term used to cover both hand spools/casters and hand held rod and reels. Chris
  2. Penguin, I dunno if its just me but from the sounds of what your saying you had two bites, possibly from that marlin that you saw but didnt sink the hooks. You dont often get "taps" out there, nor does line slowly peel off reels for no reason Im surprised about the other raider leading you astray though, isnt that the exact opposite to what this websites about ? Chris

    Back To The Bay

Congratulations on a well run, and organised event. The perfect day weather wise and Lots of big smiles in those pictures ! Chris
  9. Rodholder and myself wont be attending this weekend. Chris
  10. Close Roylo, But It is I who am A Guys Its all a laugh in good nature between Person B and myself but its an Interesting Topic Steve (rodholder) thought would occupy our afternoon today. Chris
  11. Netic, I beleive Rodholder asked who should take credit for the fish. It obvious who wound in the fish, but the credit for the capture should go to person A for reasons previously stated.
  12. Its like catching a fish on a charter, I think A deserves the credit. When Ross goes out and gets his clients onto fin, I'll congratulate Ross, not the customer that got handed the rod to wind it in. The work is in the hunt and the preparation etc, not in the catching. person B may have wound the fish in, but it was A that made it happen. Chris
  13. Next Time Spizza you'll nail em !
  14. Light? I consider that pretty heavy for that class of fish. The depth those fish were taken in was probably between 12 and 15 metres. Drag setting varies depending on what structure I'm fishing but usually between 50-70% of the the Line class I'm using. Doesnt leave much room for error, but I seem to get more fish to the boat. That may not work for everyone. Chris
  15. I'm throwing those lures around on 10lb braid and 20lb leader. Those kings arent anything special size wise, and you could knock them over with alot less that what I'm using. I'll fish lighter or heavier depending on where abouts I have to fish for them. Chris
  16. I try to reduce tailor and salmon bycatch by using larger lures. Tango Dancer D115's and Rapala X-walk 130's are the go normally. Colours dont seem to bother me, but green and natural colours seem to be tied on more often than not. You basically have to fish where the fish are, sounders, bait and structure are all taken into account before i even consider tying on a surface lure. Otherwise you'll be flogging the water to death for very little result. Chris
  17. David, It wasnt as flat as we would have liked so the slower walk the dog style didnt seem to get much interest. Once I started ripping them and giving them a slightly longer pause they switched on. You just needed to have an agressive start to the retrieve, then slow it down a little. Chris
  18. Not quite inside.. but close enough...
  19. Rodholder and I Decided to See if the kings had ventured into the bay on sunday as well as get a feed of squid for the olds and luckily managed to do both, Unfortunatley they wernt quite in the bay just yet.. We basically spent the morning around the heads throwing large Owner Tango Dancer's around the washes while drifting squid jigs out the back. We found the some little kings scattered around the headlands but they'd only hit the topwater's when paused, probably the fact the water is so cold made them a little lethargic. We kept a couple each for the table, as the new size limits that would be in place less than 12 hours later would have halved the catch thanks to the increased size limit. Even the squid were few and far between, but the ones that came to the party were worth the effort. As the wind picked up the harder it became to fish up the front and we retreated back to the boat ramp. The bay still seems pretty lifeless, unless you count the over excited police boats zooming around for this APEC crap.
  20. Hey Phil, I got the whole run down from Rok on the weekend, seems things are still pretty slow ! We might have to drag you down this way for a fish... Chris
  21. Each to their own I guess, But I'm pretty sure your one of very very few willing to put their name on the line and call all Certates shi.t. Shimano has let me down numerous times both in my spinning reels, and in game reels. I've switched to daiwa and have had no serious issues in the last 2 years. I've found Daiwa's spinning reels to be leaps and bounds ahead in both techonolgy and performance and dont see myself switching back to Shimano anytime soon. Chris
  22. Shot to peices? care to elaborate a little further? I'd be very surprised if yours hads failed only catching squid while mine (2500) is immacculate after three years of king flogging as well as YFT. Chris
  23. They seem to have the same Flexibilty and feel to me, I grabbed a few tubs last weekend. The new tubs also leak once the orginal seal is removed. The only advantage is the amount of Gulp Juice you get, which compesates for ther amount you lose on the leaking tubs. Ill wait for them to improve the packaging, the tubs seal worse than the zip lock bags they were in orginally Chris
