  1. Have now sorted it out, local boat shop had a second hand gauge to try which worked, so looks like gauge was at fault.
  2. Most sounders wont work correctly out of water due to the air gap between transducer and the ground. surprised you say it worked good out of water before.
  3. Carrolls springs at smithfield manufacture/repair and reset springs Geoff, good quality and price.
  4. Castrol super outboard plus is a good oil, as hard to get the Quicksilver stuff except from boat shops.
  5. Cheap shit rubbish! you get what you pay for, they are under powered poorly built bits of rubbish.my old work now sells them, they are trouble.
  6. Hi,anyone able to help tell me how to test my tilt & trim gauge? sender is working fine, but gauge goes up to full up as soon as key on, and only goes down just below the up line with key off, it is on a 1987 140hp johnson gauge. would like to make sure it is gauge or just the diode between the sender terminal and the positive terminal on gauge before buying new gauge. thanks.
  7. The instructions with Ezyguide are very good, you have to move boat back on trailer so it over hangs the ezyguide rollers by around an inch, also you fit it at home without the springs to get correct location, then drill holes for brackets, fit the brackets without the rollers, then take boat down to ramp, launch boat, fit rollers and springs, reload boat and check, also when its fitted you on only back trailer in until rear roller is in the water, too deep and boat will just float make ezyguide less effective. ezyguide are cheapest through Bias, cheaper than online shops.
  8. Only other thing I can think is drive around and look for factories or industrial units with car parks and locked gates and ask about renting a spot off them.
  9. Hi, what about self storage shed places? I live at Taree and all the self storage places around here rent outdoor spaces for boats, caravans etc for as little as $10 per week. maybe worth a try?
  10. They are cheap second hand as basically once out of warranty they are too expensive to repair, I think you would be a lot better off in the long run buying a Toyota or Nissan etc, better value for money and hold real their value.
  11. Go to an auto upholsterer they will point you in right direction.
  12. Hi, I sprayed my trailer with Penetrol, then sprayed the Galmet on top, I wanted to make sure I got everywhere, I did it over 6 months ago,I live right near saltwater so always in the elements, there is no sign of rusting at all, some of my trailer isnt even proper gal underneath due to repairs and mods, I cant fault it.
  13. Hi geoff, I used Penetrol on my trailer,I sprayed the Penetrol on to get all nooks and crannys. then painted using Galmet, no need for primer when using penetrol. worked great, no sign of any rust coming back yet.
  14. Hi, go to the coast gaurd building at harrington and pick up the map, it has gps coordinates of a lot of grounds around crowdy and further north, in between crowdy and north to blackhead there is some close in reefs, good for snapper, flathead etc. excellent weather here now. glad I live here! woo hooo!

    Winch issues

Places like Repco or similar sell roll pins, you just need the right size for it.
  16. if they are all screw holes, use a large drill bit to just make a concaved hole in the flowcoat only, then use flowcoat to fill holes, leaving raised enough so you can sand flat, then paint if needed.
  17. Reel choice has a lot to do with distance, an overhead will cast a lot further than an eggbeater, due to line coming straight off the spool, an alvey sidecast is also good for long casts, but matching with correct rod also helps alot.
  18. Get your hands on a infrared heat gun and double check temp so you know gauge is working fine, check if top and bottom radiator hoses are both around same temp, top should be a bit hotter but you should be able to hold both hoses, engines run around the 85'c mark, some hotter some cooler, if top hose really hot and bottom cold then chcek thermostat first, pull it out, put on a piece of wire and hang in a jug of boiled water and see if it opens, if not then change it, if it does look at getting radiator cleaned. does it have a cooling fan? if it was water pump on a closed system it would get hot and boil, temp wouldnt come down for a long time.
  19. having to use choke to start a motor and keep a motor running means it is starving for fuel, except when they are cold when they need a bit of extra fuel for first start of the day, you say hard to start? does motor turn over fast enough or is it struggling to turn over? check make sure motor is in neutral by turning prop by hand if mean turning over slow, otherwise check your fuel supply, filter, vent on tank, carby blockage, also check the idle adjustment, when in the water there is a lot more pressure to push, so your idle on the muffs might sound high but once in the water it will die down, mine idles around 1200 rpm on the muffs but when in the water idle comes down to around 700-800 rpm.
  20. best bet for security and no trouble from council rangers etc would be a self storage place, you will find only cost few bucks a night and it will be safer than the streets.
  21. I had one like you describe, worked well keeping battery topped up, until it rained while I was in hospital, came home found it had shorted out and started burning my fibreglass boat where the wires were laying, also killed my battery, water must have got into it.
  22. Bleach will take mould off straight away.
  23. there is plenty of little beaches you can set up camp, would really recommend you check it out the week before so you know what you need to bring and where you are heading, the Hawkesbury can be a great place but can get disorientating at night when its black at night. mooney is a great ramp and I have seen a lot of people camp there, just keep everything locked up when not there, have never lost anything there but always hear of blokes who have lost stuff from cars etc. most important is go and have fun, if you catch a fish its a bonus!

    yanmar

Yanmar make engines for all applications from water pumps to excavators to marinised boat engines, so long as they are maintained like any other engine they will last for years, always keep the sacrificial anodes changed when they need to protect the cooling system and engine from corroding away. but they will go for ever.
