  1. Just got back from jerusalem bay on a test run to chase down a few hair tail. Set up about 5pm and had 3 rods going. One with a float , one at 4mt and one at 7mt. I was fishing at the entrance to the bay. I just wanted to go for a few hours to see how dark it gets down there. I was just playing around with the little quiver tip rod catching a few flathead and bream while i waited. At about 7 my litte rod buckles over and screams off. I had no idea what it was . i was fishing a half prawn as the pickers were killing me, Run after run on the light gear and the 30 dollar knock around shimanno real was getting a work out. After a few more dives and to my suprise , up pops a jew. Far out. on a prawn. He must have been hungry. He went 45 and i was pumpped as i always wanted to catch one. Id love to feel how hard his mum and dad go . After a quick pic he went on his way. Stayed out till 8.30 but didnt get a touch on the big gear. I no i should be staying out longer but not sure if i was in the right spot. I was in around 10mt and was using pillies with a red light near the gang. not sure if im around the mark and would love some help. i took a pic of the sounder and it was crazy. when i first got there i had a few marks on the bottom but by the time i left it looked like the pic. Not sure what i was seeing. took one with the fish id on and 1 with it off. Anyway had a great night and keen to hit it again, but will definatly go the long haul for sure
  2. they said after easter, im heading down this weekend and ill take a pic of the sign and post it, here you go Brian http://www.afloat.com.au/press-releases/davidson-park-boat-ramp-to-close-for-major-upgrade
  3. Yeah they had signs up at the booth. I spoke to the guy there and they said they were cleaning the ramp and putting in a bigger floating pontoon. He said its ok because its during the quite season, I said mate its just starting to fire hahaha. Where is the closest ramp. Maybe Cammeray?????
  4. yep. Been good the last few times ive been out. Plenty of buzz on the water.
  5. would have been a great attempt but hahahahah. Did you see they are going to close the ramp after easter for 6 weeks,
  6. i put in at 3pm mate so they must have been there all day, Was hoping for a king. They must have been thick
  7. Headed out yesterday off Rosville, Turned the corner and saw birds diving and bait getting smashed, had a plastic on and first cast a screaming run and that tail beat off a bonny. Had it on for 5 min and dropped it, missing tail on the plastic. i quickly tied a metal slug on and bang, mate they go hard, got him in after a great fight, i located the school again and had moved 100mt or so and saw a boat towing a biscuit heading straight for it,. He drove straight through it and pushed teh bait down, killa. I tried trolling around to find them again but no good. Ah well got 1 and a nice feed of sushi.
  8. not sure about the yellow fins but all reports are the albies and bluefin are in and running off portland victoria, cant wait to head back down and get a few. If your looking for a getaway and a fish, id say head down late may/june and you only have to hit the 100mt mark, but early we head to the 1000, if your keen here is a great site that or mate runs BOB. enjoy. http://www.wildblue.com.au go to bobs fishing report. cheers
  9. did you get the flounder on prawn, ive been targeting them for a while with no luck. cheers
  10. Nice work, I was there on wednwsday diving at fish rock, the water was 19 under the thermo line and the kingy schools were massave, the vis was maybe 5 meters, the sharks were sticking to the rock, there were a few boats fishing and i wanted to be holding a rod after some of the kings i saw.
  11. cheers, i fished aroung the pilons but those little leather jackets make short work of my plastics. ill keep trying haha, thanks again
  12. nice fish, ive been trying in the area a few times as ive just moved here, do u fish the magrove side or the rocks, such a good spot late afternoon to flick a few plastics, fish is a bonus
  13. best way is just to free dive down and have a look. we use to start in 5 mt and dive down 2 mt till you can see the bottom, you see the scallops straight away, just pick them up, they just lay ontop of the sand, easy as.
  14. @ dhype. if i could get them back without stinking out my laguage i would for sure hahaha
  15. yeah there are heaps in port phillip, they are mostly in 7 to 10 mt. we scuba for them but last year they were in 3 mt, people were swiming of the beach and snorkling for them. we just grab them with gloves, they just sit on the bottom in the sand. we only use the gloves because in the empty shells you get blue ring octapus and if those suckers bite u your problably done for before you get back to the ramp. ive got all my dive gera and a boat in sydney so im keen to have a paddle and find some scallys for sure.
  16. forgot to load the pic of the tastey little suckers
  17. Gday Raiders Back in Melbourne for work and decided to give the snapper a miss tonight and head out for a bag of scallops, Headed to our old stompping grounds at rye. The scallop beds are so thick these days we only headed out 1km in 7 mts of water. Got our bag pretty quick then headed in to shell our catch over a few drinks. No wonder the snapper are getting better and better every year. The bye back of most of the netters and trawler boats in the bay years ago has deffinatlly paid off big time. Not sure where or if you can dive for scallops in sydney, anybody know. Cheers.
  18. nice fish for sure, ive fished the tambo since i was a kid your boys age, i still go there now, just something about that place. Did you get them near the mouth or rough road.
  19. here it is, these fish were jumping non stop, cant believe my mate got the pic. we through everything at them, lures bait, float. they were going for the bugs that where sitting on the water. need to lern how to fly fish hahahahah
  20. we always see them jumping there but we could never hook one, i herd by a local that they are weed eaters. good get, ive got a pic of one free jumping and burn bridge, ill try to upload it, well done
  21. As soon as we hit our spot i chop up 2 hand fulls of pillies and throw them out as far as i can in every direction around the boat. I then chop up a heap more and throw about 4 cubes behind the boat every minuite. I do this for about 10 min. The best tip i can give you when fishing for snapper is always have burley at the ready. when we get our first run and hook up, we dump a heap of burley stright behind the boat. when snapper tear off it means there is alot of competion down there. so when your bringing in your fish there will always be followers and you draw them into the falling pilleys, this keeps the school under your boat and the new fish will find your other baits faster.. Last night we had fish take our baits before the hit the bottom, And gee it looks awsome when the line tears off mid water. hope this helps i added a pic from last night on the water, gees it was tough to leave. You just wish time would stand still and you could fish that time of night for hours. Ah well, i guess that what keeps us going back for more Cheers
  22. Yeah its tough alright, hahahahahahahahah Just got in from a night fish. Catch and released 6 fish, all were fat female ready to release eggs. Mad house again out there. no colowns next to us as we kept the yee ha's down as to the rod tips hahahah.
  23. Got a chance to get back home to Melbourne for work and a little play last week. I hadn’t missed a snapper season since I was 18 so I was happy to get out on port Phillip again. I herd the mayhem had started as every year gets more and more crazy. Saturday was going to be a cracker so we thought we'd better get out early. We hit the ramp at 4am and it was already almost full. far out, seems like everybody has a boat theses days hahah. We hit our favourite mark in 18mtr straight out of carrum, we sounded up no fish but we no they will come through as this spot never fails. We dropped lines at 5am and burlyd hard, we had sand whiting, squid and pillys out, but because we burlyd so hard the little flattys were loving the pillys and squid, But then rite on que of first light. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. my whiting tears off, my heart was pumping and I was so pumped I hit it to fast and dropped it, spewing. my mate was all over me telling me that I was out of touch hahahah. we kept the burly going and then it was on for young and old. 4 rods went with only 3 guys on board, great sound and lots of yee ha's. we ended up getting our bag by 7 am. All fish went on whitting. the seasons just keep getting better and better, the best fish went 4kgs cleaned and we let go some even bigger ones after we had bagged out. There were two boats in front of us who didn’t turn a reel. Just pays to burly hard I guess. The only down side was 2 jack ass's in a boat saw us hook up and decided to anchor 10 meters away from us, and when the boats swung they were even closer, I calmly asked him to move away a bit but he said in a smart ass way I can anchor where I like, what an idiot. 1 descent run on a big fish could run straight into there lines or there anchor... The only thing that didn’t worry us was that we had our fish and now we were fishing for fun. but the best bit was they didn’t turn a reel and we were releasing them in front of him with a big grin on our face ever time. We decided to head in to beat the boats . Back at the ramp at 8 and no boats in sight, Glad I got back for a fish, and the bonus is my boss wants me to stay till Thursday so ill head out again Tuesday night. but this time we will be catch and releasing, cos seriously how much fish do you need. the bag in Melbourne is 3 fish over 40cm. the average fish is 2kg to 4kg. 3 fish is still plenty. On a day where it was packed we didn’t see one fishers officer. And they need to get out on the water and check boats, I no of fisherman who over load there esky and dump them to a mate who is waiting on a pier and head back out, This shits me. Have your fun and take a feed, but dont ruin a good thing. Anyway all I can say if you get a chance to get down to melb, from now until late December they will be on fire.

    Fish id please

I recall that the dorsal fin was very sharp, not curved which threw me a bit. I was having a look at the shark id nsw page and the closest fin id i found was a hamerhead fin. Being from vic im not sure of the sharks that cruise these waters, wish i got a better look
