Andy I had the same problem as the dealer I was getting my boat from was a Navman dealer.So I was swayed that way from the start and I was that close to purchasing a Navman. But at the end I realised it's my boat my money and I will get what I bloody well want. Trust me I am not having a go at the dealer because thats what he sells and it seems like a nice unit.I just had a bit of a niggling feeling that I might be disappointed. Cheers Nick

Andy there is nothing wrong with resurrecting an old thread. Especially since it is one that I started.Just like you I was thinking about spending all this money on a unit only to find out that 1)It wasn't as good bottom definition as I would hope for the money 2)And there was a cloud over there reliability. I would have to say that I have not heard any thing bad about Furuno. Actually all I have been told and read has been absolutely positive. Cheers Nick

Now that I have sorted the sounder out I thought I will throw this questoin up in the air. I know you need a 1kw tranducer for when you get to deep for the 600 tranducer but do you still get a better result with a 1kw transducer in shallower water say 100m or less? Does it give you better bottom composition readings or is it not worth the extra money for shallow water readings. What do you guys think? Cheers Nick

Thank you all for the help. It's like talking about cars.We all get very passionate about what we drive. I ended up going for a Furuno FCV585 sounder and 7000 chart plotter/GPS It sounded like a good unit. Cheers Nick

I need some help in deciding on a sounder for the new boat coming? I was going to put a Navman 8120 in the boat but I'm not sure if is as good as I want for that sort of money(Maybe it is as i don't know that much about sounders). I don't want to start a which brand is better than the other topic as I know people can get quit passionate about the brand they own. I would like to know if any one has Navman 8120 or any other brand and what makes them there choice of sounder. cheers Nick

How are you going guys. Is this true about Etec engines as I'm getting a new boat( 6.4 Hard top Barcrusher). Up and till now I was going to put a 200Ho Etec but maybe I should think about a 200 4 stroke Yamaha. What do you guys think?I was under the impression that the Etecs were pretty much on par with 4 strokes with petrol consumption. Please any input on this will help before it's to late. thanks Nick

HI Netic I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way as I wasn't trying to be a smartie. I wish we did get bigger kingie's more often in Sydney.It's just that yellowfin are runners and fight clean and a kingie of that size are brawlers and would try to wipe you out straight away. They are both magical fish but different in character. Cheers Nick

Great work Kelvin. Ha Netic you can't compare yellowfin to kingies.There completely different style of fighting fish.And remember if you hooked a kingie the same weight as your yellowfin Im sure you would remember how good they fight. Cheers Nick

Your right Netic I don't know this bloke or your history together.I was just saying how felt from the way I was reading it.Without knowing your Reason.

I'm sure your right outnumbered.But the feeling I got from netic was,I will stuff this bloke up by telling everyone this spot so next time it might be crowded for him.That is being plain nasty to this bloke.It's that I don't like.Yes I do know plenty of so called hot spots but I hate crowds so I have gone out of my way to find my own spots that don't seem to attract anyone else.Believe me I don't think I'm the only to every fish there.

How about putting in the work your self you lazy sod. Neilm second time on.There is more to fishing than being told were someone's top spot is.

And for all the other people the main reason you think it's cool what netic has done is because it saves you the hard work the jew man has done.If i went about my own business and put in the hard work to find the good fishing spots and a bloke like netic started telling every one all the hard earned spots I had put alot of time in to find just to be nasty to me he would be getting more than just what comes around.I'm sure every one's happy to be told of someone else's top spots but I'm sure most wouldn't like there top secret spot blabbed to the whole world. And to call this bloke a knob because he has put in the hard yard and minded his own business.This bloke hasn't be nasty to any one. Shame on you all.
