  1. Hi rumz,I actually read on a review website that Fireline Exceed is designed for bait caster reels due to the way it lays on the reel. That is where they designed Nanofil purely for Spin reels. I actually saw the discount at the moment and was keen to get it till I read that info.
  2. Hi Mr Fish, Yes I think your right on the Power Pro, it was 5lb! I'll amend that now. That Castaway line sounds good, I was looking into it today actually. Cheers, Chris
  3. Hi OutdoorDan, Good work on a great Jew! Yes that's good advice! As much as I'd like to upgrade my line to something that costs more (sounds silly as I'm writing this, wanting to spend more than is necessary), Fireline is pretty good once it's run in. Cheers, Chris
  4. Hi Raiders, The time has come once again to re-spool my freshwater 2000 size spin reels with some new Braid line. Having used several brands of Braid line in the past, I am still unsure of which brand to get. I have used the following: 1/. Daiwa TD Sensor 4lb - I found this to be good line, nice low diameter, but had some right old wind knots. Remember saying I'm not buying this stuff again. 2/. Fins Windtamer - I found this to be ok line, but the diameter was a bit thick in 6lb. 3/. Powerpro Depth Hunter - I found this to be ok line, but the strands were a bit loosely wrapped and the diameter is a bit thick in 5lb. 4/. Berkley fireline/Crystal - I have used this line the most, its fairly cheap, a bit stiff at first but softens up after a while. I have been looking more and more into Japanese brands, such as Varivas, however are they really worth the price tag. I'm thinking of sticking with Berkley, as I know how it fishes, which imo after its supples up isn't too bad. Any thoughts or info would be hugely appreciated. The low diameter line is a huge advantage for me as I fish virtually un-weighted plastics, so something in 0.13mm to 0.15mm / 4-6lb bracket is perfect. Cheers, Chris
  5. I would say life expectancy for Rainbows could be anywhere up to 10 years depending on the quality & size of water they are living in. Also, depending on the food source & quantity, they could put on 1kg per year. So if your catching 5kg Rainbows, they would be around 5-8 years old I would estimate. As for Brownies, they do tend to live longer and can grow much bigger. It all comes down to quality of water/size & food source, and numbers of fish. Cheers, Chris
  6. I personally think a great fishing report should be a great fishing story! These stories take you there. That is what a fishing report should be.
  7. Happy birthday Stewy, hope you have a great day!
  8. Great work Mate! Awesome fun on the fly rod I bet. I'm keen to chase some salt species soon on the fly rod!
  9. Hi Royce, I just saw your reply, sorry for the late response. Thanks for the kind offer, I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Chris
  10. Hi Mate, Ill let you know if I'm ever in the area. Cheers, Chris
  11. Apparently Berkley had stopped manufacturing the Powerbait range, however i spoke to their agent in Australia some time ago, and he reckons the demand is still here. That said, he reckons we should see powerbait minnows back in Big W some time this year. Big W have a contract with Berkley to supply them. As for the 2"minnows, I'm not sure as I was inquiring about the 3" minnows.
  12. Hi Slinky, Nice reel! I have one myself in a 2/6wt. You probably know, you can get a small arbor spool for the Velocity, which suits for larger wt lines. Versatile reel the ol Lamson Velocity! I have an 8-9wt rod, but its one from my early fly fishing days (20 years old), so its a bit long at 10.5 feet and probably not as firm as today's rods. I'm gonna grab a 9wt in 9ft for this mission, which will double for the salt. Cheers for the tips, Chris
  13. Top marks, truly inspirational!
  14. Inspired by Stewy's post of that magnificent Murray Cod caught on fly, I got thinking it was high time I cracked an Aussie native species. For all too long now, I've been focused on the loved/hated Trout. (which I personally love). I've been aware of the Murray Cod for quite some time now, however the other personal challenge I've set myself, which takes up all my allocated fishing time (to crack a 10lb Trout) has unfortunately not come about yet, although I'm getting close! I am a keen fly fisherman, and after watching some clips on the internet of people catching Murray Cod, I must say it looks very exciting. Other than the Macquarie river & Windermere dam, neither of which I've ever fished, is there anywhere else within a days round driving trip of Sydney where you can have a crack at the mighty Murray Cod? Any information or tips would be hugely appreciated. I'm not asking for peoples top secret spots, just point me in the right direction and I'll figure out the rest. Even if anyone knows of a stocked dam etc where I could get my first taste of the Murray Cod, that would be awesome. Thank you in advance, Chris
  15. I have the H7, which is good, then upgraded to the H14R (rechargeable). Best headlamp I reckon by far. Worth the extra money, and if you look around you can get one for under $130 online. Check that they are an authorised Led Lenser reseller though. I think they are 220 lumens, and last at least 4 hours on full power!
  16. I went for the Sony Action Cam over the Go Pro Black, due to the fact that its over $100 cheaper, has all the same features, plus anti shock, and actually has bit better colours when you compare the two online. Not to mention, the battery life is around three times that of the Go Pro when running at the highest specs. The Go pro Black & the Action cam both have wi if, however you can't stream underwater to either of them, wifi doesn't work under water. Do your research Mate, they're both good, but in my book the Action Cam is better, and I'm glad the shop attendant talked me out of the Go Pro Black. Very happy with the Action Cam. That's my two cents worth!
  17. 5 knots I use, know more, but use only these 5: 1/. Braid to flouro - Albright knot 2/. Flouro to jig head / Fly / Hardbody - Leftys Loop Knot 3/. Flouro to fly / Metal lure - Improved clinch knot 4/. Flouro to flouro of similar dia. - Uni to Uni. 5/. Loop in flouro for loop to loop connection- Perfection Loop That's what I use.
  18. Change the mono leader to fluorocarbon, around 6-7ft in length.
  19. Hi Ving, nice job there! What stretch of water is that? Ok if it's top secret lol.
  20. I use Willyweather. I find it to be fairly accurate, however, as with all weather predicting they can and do get it wrong.
  21. As far as I know, Oberon Dam has always been open...It is the use of non powered flotation devices which is new. It used to be a top trout fishery, long before my time...Unfortunately, these days it is full of Redfin, so chances of getting through them to get a Trout are quite slim. Still, worth a shot!
  22. That sounds and looks great! Some good Salmon there Mate!
  23. Ok mate, that's cool...Finesse carp fly fishing. It will teach you fly fishing well actually.
