  1. TOP STUFF!! We have hit the same area, lotsa flatties, so we thru out a couple of whiting rigs, see what we could get.. MATE! it was a FEAST! as soon as we added a whiting rig, we had flattie and whiting. Seems to be the way arond Patonga, and Dark Corner, Lion IslandPearl Beach, lotsa whiting, so set one/two rods for that, and another for flatties.. As we have found the best is, an out going tide, so you can drift along the shore.. have a different set of rigs in the water, and bang.... flattie, or whiting...
  2. NICE! We went for a BASS scout last week, in our area, headed up to Lake St Clair for a squiz. If we get a bass like that, mate we shall be very happy!!!! On the other side, I fish for bass in my area, Central Coast, NSW. So would like to know what you use to catch the buggers.. they are very very sly here. which I find a great challenge. I have fished with a dark red, hard bodied lure, which has been the best bass lure so far, but would like to get any tips on other lures Thanks, Luffy
  3. You're just leaving youself open
  4. MATE!! Just a little, be interesting where they are hookin em.. I suppose that I have been fishing, tackle wise, for the fish you get in those areas. I will give it a shot for the jewies, sambos n tailor. Thanks mate, Luffy
  5. I've been fishing the creeks and bays around the Central Coast for the last couple of weeks after the big floods.. I have seen very little action, especially up the top of the tidal areas of the creeks. The question is.. what are the thoughts about the affect on tidal creek, bays when they have a big fresh water 'flush out' and when they should start back on track. EG. I was at a normal flattie spot, and you see fish action on the top of the water, the water was clean, and clear, but no action could be seen on the surface.. THOUGHTS?
  6. "IT" (have you named it yet?) looks really good, well kitted out, and the right stuff for fishin... let us all know when you get your 1st catch
  7. so........ after a shockin weekend at stockton beach, fishin wise (every other part was tops!!!!) totally closed down... spoke to other fishers on the beach, and they agreed. ANYWAY!! I'd love a fishraider sitcka
  8. Well done Ray! I've never found paddy's channel all that productive, unless you are fishing at night.. BUT If you go around the corner a little towards saratoga, on a outgoing tide, and drift towards the sandflats there at the top of paddy's channel, rigged for whiting, you can usually get a good catch. Just be careful not to hit the sand bank, it's very soft (from experience). We did find a hole about 60m off the shore at Koolewong, we used the restaurant (we call it the taj mahal) there as our marker. Berley up, and use bait, we found that the best was strips of mullet. Many a cold winter morning spent there, and we have always come out with enough for a good feed. Down at Ettalong at the sandflats I have found always productive for flatties, bream and whiting, even small tailor (in the deeper channel).. If you want flatties, on the outgoing tide, start about 30m out from the Ferry wharf, and drift towards the top of the sandflat, and stay try to stay on the beach side of the sandbank, there are nice holes sitting right on the edge, and the flatties sit in them, waiting for the food to come of the sandflat. I usually bounce SP's along the bottom, just using the tide to give the SP enough action. The faster the tide the better. If you have an electric motor it is perfect, as you can position yourself along the edge, right along the flats. Just be careful of the odd wave breaking through there on an outgoing tide. The weed beds on the other side of the sandflats, on the other side of the channel work well with SP's bouncing them through the weed, but you have to rig your hook correctly so it does'nt snag. We have found that peeled prawns, and strips of mullet work well through the flats if the SP's are not getting the hits. On an incoming tide, you can drift right up into booker bay, good fun, as with each drift you invariably go a different direction, bringing up new spots. Again, an electric motor is ideal. If it's not to rough, you can head out through half tide rocks and troll along the rocks for tailor mostly, although you might find the odd salmon. You can troll right around past lobster beach, and out along little box head, there is an outcrop there, usually around that you can get squid as well, just have to be careful of the swell. I have heard of blokes getting Jewies in between the markers and the beach at half tide rocks, but I've never been so lucky. Have fun, Luffy.....
  9. Good stuff Chopper! I've been fishing in the Channel at the entrance during peak blackfish season, and you have to weave your way around all the boats from the bridge to Pelican Island. Usually 2 old blokes, with the boat sideways to the tide, all rugged up. Would have thought it was a bit early for the blackies, so well done! Might try it out of the kayak, altho in winter, you tend to get a bit of a cold bum! LUFFY......
  10. G'day Hutcho, how did you go on Sat arvo? I did'nt get a chance to get onto the water. You're right about the berkely shads, they work well, I find the pumpkin colour, or goldie colour with the flecks. Big fan of the ecogear, squid SP's, I've nailed big flathead each time on them, even on the smaller ones (usually in pink), along with some of the paramax SP's. Heading down to the beach for a few hours today with the fam, gotta make the most of this weather, so will take the rod down, see if I can spin up a tailor or 2 :-) LUFFY...
  11. Well done mate, nice jewie!! Can't wait to hit the north entrance beach for jewies this winter LUFFY.....
  12. I love fishing outa my kayak, I have a Ocean River Freedom, it's a bit bigger than most, as I got it to go camping and also take my lil girl out in the bays with me. I've only got it setup with one rod holder at the moment, but about to buy 3 scotty's rod holders, so I can have 2 rods out to troll offshore. These rod holders are a lot stronger, and can take a bigger hit from Kingy's etc. The hardest part is storing the fish once caught, and getting access to the tackle and lures. I've changed my hatch's around so they can also open length wise as well as from the side, this allows me to get things in and out easily. Also making sure that your gear is secure, easiest way was a small piece of rope, and a good paddle holder. I also have an anchor setup, which works well, with a few clips to make it easily accessable. Next time I have it all setup for fishing, I'll take a few pics and post them. A lot if it is your own personal setup. Have fun. LUFFY.....
  13. Mate on the bidge, I'd keep those spots secret, gotta make sure that we are still able to have that type of ledgend in the system.. Again, top catch, and the more I look at the pic's the more it makes me happy :-) as only a fisho could be LUFFY
  14. WOW!! That is awsome, great pics... My dad lives very close to the 'bidge' and would love to know where this was.. Great catch LUFFY
  15. I head out on the kayak fishing quite a lot.. Get out in the tinny as well, but seem to head out fishing on the yak more often than not, for the exercise as well as being able to get into areas where a boat cannot. I've trolled from Terrigal Haven across to Spoon Bay (there are lots of rocky outcrops that they hang around) and hit a lot of tailor, and some good salmon.. Looking at getting out there next Tuesday, as I was at Wamberal beach on Sunday, and chucked in a 65 raider just to see if there was anything around and landed a 35cm tailor on the 1st cast. My daughter and dog were very impressed, but not so after another 20mins of casting without a hit :-). I was actually at Hawkesbury Bridge, Tuesday last week, throwing plastics off the shore, as it was a bit windy, and we decided to give the tinny a miss.. At the northern end of the Pacific hwy bridge, we hit tailor after tailor, not big, I reckon the biggest was 30cm, but they just kept coming, we started with a lil white suidgy, then I tied on a small metal lure, and every 2nd cast was getting a fish. Can't wait to get out between Lion Island and Flint n Steel for a troll see what is out there!! More than happy to post some reports about Central Coast, as we often fish up n down the beach's, inlets, bays and rivers.. I've even started hitting the creeks for bass in the kayaks, yet to actually hook up, but you can see the bloody buggas! LUFFY....
  16. I do a lot of fishing on the Central Coast, and I've never done a fishing report... It's gunna change :-) Normally I put the kayak in down at Ettalong at the head of Brisbane Waters, and drift for flatties on plastics. I've been getting more n more catches with each outing, as I refine my technique and which plastic to use. I've found that the best is the ole garry glitter on an oversized head while drifting the fast flats at the run out tide at ettalong.. BUT This time I decided I'd see if there were any fish to be had at the top of Brisbane Waters, up on the foreshore, as you around Gosford to head to Terrible, sorry Terrigal. Fished under the rail bridge, which I had done before, and hit LONGTOM after longtom, the biggest being about 45cm, and a great fight on 2kg gear. Thing is they are not the best fish to bring aboard on a kayak :-) Decided to do a bit of a drift fron the head of Brisbane Waters, about 40m from the foreshore, down to the marina/pier, as the tide was going out, and the wind was blowing in the same direction. I got hit after hit, each drift I got a hit or a fish.. 3 flatties, 2 legal, biggest was 40cm+, 2 bream, 1 being the biggest I have hit on plastics at 27cm (see photo) was really pleased, as it was on light gear, and a top fight.. also picked up a coupla founder/sole, never know what to call em.. All in all was a very suprising outing. I was fishing with a 2 inch paramax, in the goldy glittery version :-). O and the berkley 3 inch shad in pumpkin.. Had a ball, and was quite suprised at the action right up the top of Brisbane Waters.. See you on the water, LUFFY.....

  18. Wanted to get out tomorrow arvo on the hawkesbury, but the better half had other plans.. So instead of the tinny... I'll be drifting the Ettalong sand flats in my kayak on Sunday morning for some flatties on sp's. Get a feed for the Sunday arvo BBQ Good luck, Luffy
  19. Dunno if anyone has red the Sept issue of Modern Fishing.. I was looking at the bit about the Barra Nationals 2006.. I'm sure it says a 17mt plus Barra was caught.. DO THEY GROW THAT BLOODY BIG?????
  20. At least give us an idea of what happened, and THEN post the pics!! Where off Terrible?
  21. I'm in, it's always a good time for jewies, if you know where they are! I can get a coupla boats out on the hawkesbury if we get numbers.. We need to look at when.... If we do it on the right weekend, I could get a couple of boats (small ones, 2,3 n 4 people on each) out to get the silver beasts! Luffy!!
  22. I was warned off Inox, or WD40 and the like. I now use Lanotec Lanolin Lubricant. It seems to work reelly well. Inox, also does a lanolin based spray. I actually use Lanotec on the outboard, bearings, reels, rods.. Luffy....
