  1. I saw a dead MASSIVE fish, approx. 1m, near the rock wall along Brighton beach (I think it was a jewfish, not sure). I was in awe of the size and sad that it is no longer alive for me to "potentially" catch.

    WTF is this?

Are those REALLY big sharp teeth I see or am I hallucinating?

    Sunnies

WOW !! Expensive... maybe we should have it as a prize
  4. There are a lot of undersized fish here, but, I had caught legal tarwhine there. Last weekend I also saw a BIG dead fish floating near the rock wall, not 100% of the species, but I think it was a jewfish nearing the 1m mark. I should have taken a picture, but no camera
  5. I haven't caught any squid yet. But, if you are only getting their tentacles I think you are pulling/reeling too hard. The best way to reel squid is with constant pressure and smooth reeling. Once you cast, jig once or twice and then let the lure sink again until it is about 1 metre off the bottom, and repeat until you hook up . I am going to give squidding another go tonight, hopefully some red lures at night time might help me produce. My advice only comes from reading/watching about catching squid
  6. Nice report! I love how you told the story, great that you can duck out for a fish during lunch time (I am very envious!!) Beautiful Bonito, I can see why the girl was mesmerised .
  7. Hehe nice report and catches. I hope you have a big enough freezer to fit them all OR you can host a massive feast of fish for friends . I like the latter
  8. Nice report, I love your Kingy (jealous ) . I look forward to hearing more from you
  9. I'm in the same exact position!! HELP!! I do like reading about animals, if anyone would like to pop something in interesting
  10. Sounds like a fun day. Did you release the shark back?
  11. I wish my collection was as great as yours, unfortunately, I've lost them all to the wilderness. I'll stick to cheap jigs until I stop losing them!!
  12. Nice squid, I tried this weekend but the water was too dirty (can't see pass 50cm)
  13. My partner and I fish the Botany Bay area on the weekends, so if you are heading east give me a shout
  14. Looking forward to your report! Must include the lovely weather!!
  15. Nice catches. I love the pictures of the waves washing over you guys. Must of been one hell of a walk! I usually walk 15mins from Wattamolla carpark to the beach and am super tired!! Did you scale the cliffs or from an incline?
  16. Nice shark though! Better luck on those Jewfish next time! Oh, btw, you might want to add these tag before and after your image link so the picture is embedded in your post. [.img]link[./img] <-- without the full stops
  17. Nice fat fish. If only I had a boat...or a yak... Happy fishing!
  18. Sounds like a super fun dinner party! I would love to be your fishing guest as well! =P
  19. Nice fishing! I tried to hit up the squid this yesterday too... sadly, just lost my lure instead of getting any squid . That tiny snapper was so cute, put a smile on my dial. We should also have PB smallest fish!
  20. We steamed it asian style, ginger & shallots, really brings out the sweet flavour of the fatty fish .
  21. I would be totally interested if I wasn't working =( Good luck fishing
  22. I've been using yabbies/nippers for bream, peeled prawn also works very well. However, bream will eat most baits that are common (even bread?). I personally prefer the yabbies. Just make sure you hook on your bait properly as the bream like to suck their food (I had a lot of yabby shells still attached to my hook).
  23. Hi everyone! Another week out fishing today. We headed out to Botany Bay at 9am to catch some fish and squid, the tide was pretty high when we got to our rocks. My partner got some bait yesterday for our fishing today. I was trying to catch some squid with my new lure and techniques I received from Fishraider and Youtube, unfortunately, my lure eventually got stuck in some rocks and was lost . The area was a little to rocky for me to attempt catching any squid (my throw doesn't go very far). We frequently got our lines stuck, which was very frustrating, and I eventually packed up my rod at 1pm as I was not getting any nibbles on my yabbies, let alone any bites . At this point we were just relaxing under the shade while watching what the other fishermen were catching (small mullet looking fish). My partner had his rod set-up and stuck it in a hole in the rock platform (natural rod holders?) since 9.30am and at about 1.30pm his rod started being pulled and was nearly taken from the rod holder! My partner quickly reeled up his rod and caught a brown groper (48cm - 2.4kg) . He has been targeting groper since we started fishing, so we were super excited and jumping for joy at his catch . He decided to try again for another Groper and I decided to try fishing again and set up my rod. Unfortunately, I was still met with no nibbles and no bites, my partner had no more takers as well. We went home and had the groper for dinner! It was absolutely divine P.S. The rig he used was a Paternoster/Dropper Rig and the tide was 2 hours after high tide My partner and his groper Better view of the groper
  24. Thanks Nibbles! I'll need some anchovies to do this recipe, but I got the rest of the ingredients! Looking forward to using this tartare sauce with my (future) calamari rings
