  1. someone just txted me about it, they landed one BFT around 80kg a litte east of browns
  2. www.ripcharts.com that's unreal if the report is correct, tomorrow could be good
  3. for sure, I'd be heading as far south as I could as well, but I gotta run back into Sydney, so I won't be able to venture as far south as the guys leaving from Port or Botany, I'm just hoping south of Browns or Southern Canyons will fire this the latest map, its really patchy, but it does look like that cooler break is at the back of Browns, so there might be hope for those of us who can't venture too far south, good luck tomorrow call sign happy hooker 2
  4. if I hear any reports tomorrow (Saturday), I'll post them up tomorrow night I got a crew on standby now, so if the forecast for Sunday doesn't get any worse we'll be giving it a go, good luck to you all
  5. I agree with you, south is probably better, the current looks a bit better south as well. This is the best map I could find from rip charts. Its still 20.5 and 21 in places off Sydney. At the back of Browns it goes to about 19.5. The Bluefin that Dave(Croydon, well done mate) was caught in 19.6, there's similar water temp off Sydney in places, so there is a chance they're this far up now. If I go out, I might start at Browns, go east and try to find 19.x then follow it south. The bitch for me is its going blow up Northerly in the arvo, so i'll get cross wind all the way back to Sydney. Even if the BFT aren't here there's still albacore and YFT, I'd be happy with an Albacore or 2. 3 Albacore and a YFT on the cube were caught on Monday that went 125kg. Good luck
  6. I am thinking about heading out wide looking for Tuna but not sure about the weather, Bom is calling under a metre seas for Sat and Sun but a lot of swell. BOM only have to get the wind a little bit wrong to make it really rough. If I do go, it will probably be Sun afternoon and I'll try to get 5hrs trolling in wide of Browns. Either that or I stay in close and do a bit of trolling for Kings off Long Reef again, its close and flat in a westerly. I'm just looking for easy options these days
  7. great fish, looks cold down there, but look how close you guys were to the shore, if only they came in that close to Sydney well done
  8. Just did a bit of trolling off Long Reef and got a 3-way hook-up on Kings, one went about 75cm. I saw a big school of what looked like Mac Tuna leaping around everywhere about 2 miles out, hooked one but dropped it, would have been fun on spinning gear. Listened on 21 all arvo for any signs of Tuna out wide. It sounded like heaps of boats were out near Browns, Southern Canyons and Heaton’s all looking for tuna, from what I heard, 1 boat got 3 albacore and that was about it, no BFT or YFT that I heard of. I just saw that big YFT that was caught on here on Sunday, that’s unreal. I agree with the other comments on here about getting ready, when it happens it might happen fast and it might only be a short season, so you have to be ready to go. Just some advice to the newbies going for Tuna, over the last few years there has been quite a few boats running out fuel when attempting to fish for tuna around Heaton’s, the back of Browns, Southern Canyons, etc. It’s a long run, about 40NM to some of those spots. Make sure you calculate your fuel properly to; get there, troll or cube for the day and get back with a healthy amount to spare allowing for unforeseen changes in weather conditions and the extra weight of a big tuna in your boat J. You might need to get a spare tank or 2, better safe than sorry. Good luck to anyone heading out.
  9. I know a couple of guys who went out today, one didn't make it very wide because it was quite rough. The other trolled mainly around the back of Browns for zero. He said he said he heard some stripies were caught on the cube but nothing else and there were a quite a few boats out there. There was a claim over the radio that someone caught a spearfish on the troll as well. Water temp was almost 22 in places. That YFT that was caught last week they got about 45NM out from Sydney on the cube I've been told. Tuna have gotta be close now.
  10. no probs, good luck when you head out next. Just a tip make sure you unscrew all the bits and empty out and wash out all the bait from the lures at the end of the day. I've left a bit of bait in them before by accident and trust me they will stink to high hell If I can clear some work and weather pending I might be heading out wide on Tuesday looking for tuna. I know 2 boats heading out this weekend, be keen to hear how they go.
  11. Just my opinion, maybe about a week give or take a few days for SBT. The water that I think looks good is too far east or south at the moment, to me it looks over 100 NM out. But who knows for sure fishing is hardly an exact science I called a mate at lunchtime and we did quick run to Long Reef for a bit of trolling, we got around 3hrs in before dark. We hooked 3 fish and landed 2 small kings on our lures, nothing legal. Still happy to get away from the computer screen for half a day, so sick of work. There were about 10 boats around the area, really nice and flat. Heard over the radio a that few squid were caught and lots of slimies but not much else.
  12. Yeah, its getting like that everything is going through some American service these days, not much left that's Aussie anymore. I send you a message and get your email we can sort something out.
  13. last year we got our tuna on lure chains, 6" lures. We put the bait in the stinger lure only not the top 2 lures. we also hooked albacore and stripies on them. Other than that 8" lures are good, you don't need really big lures. these 3 all work: http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1259/CatID/196/Lure_Chain_Red__Black_Squid__Bullet_Head.aspx http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1258/CatID/196/Lure_Chain_Evil__Bullet_Head.aspx http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1026/CatID/121/Purple_Frigate__Mini_Pusher_Head.aspx or this pack, they're all lures that we caught tuna on before http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1304/CatID/157/Game_Fishing_Lure_Pack_1__Sydney_Offshore.aspx
  14. yeah I will do a bit longer version of that video, i got some good footage of when James is in the water with the tuna and we have it tail roped, its beating its tail around like crazy. I'll let you know when i put it up
  15. I got out this arvo for el zilcho. Only got a bit over 3hrs trolling in mainly around the back of Browns, quiet, no birds, no bait. I think its a bit early for the tuna as well. I was just happy to get away from work and get some fresh air. I was hoping to catch something but was expecting nothing. Good conditions and the water was really blue, about 22 at the back of Browns. Micro lures are coming, maybe a month now.
  16. I’ve been ridiculously busy for work but I might finally be able head out tomorrow, probably leave mid-morning and fish all arvo. I don’t think the water is great, massive upwelling off Sydney. The water that looks promising for Bluefin looks like it’s about 100 miles out. I’m happy to give it a crack though, around Browns not 100 miles out . You never know could be YFT out there, or even a late marlin or dollie, the water is still warm enough. I’ve managed to put some videos up on catching Bluefin and Yellowfin on our lures if anyone is interested. I got a tonne of raw footage and I could do a few more, but just don’t have time right now. And sorry about the repetitive music, I didn’t have time to find other tracks. I’ll change the music at some stage. There are a few raiders in the clips. https://youtu.be/R652bFWbojI https://youtu.be/c-WKHGaAlNQ https://youtu.be/aElE0m1Ujqw https://youtu.be/vHNe1tBXX-E If anyone is interested in trying the lures this Tuna season, I’ve put together a pack of lures that have worked for us to catch Tuna off Sydney. http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1304/CatID/157/Game_Fishing_Lure_Pack_1__Sydney_Offshore.aspx Use discount code: fishraider That gives you 25% off and compensates for the lousy exchange rate We are just about sold out of lure bags and only have 5 left. So if you want a Tuna Pack in a lure bag you’ll have to be quick. We’re also sold out of teasers as well. A shipment is arriving in about 4 weeks which will restock us for lure bags and teasers. Good luck to anyone heading out Peter
  17. I got a raymarine hand held as a backup, I got that one because it uses those normal c batteries, I just keep a pack of the duracell 20 batteries with the radio for if and when I need to use it. I think it uses 4 at a time. Don't have to worry about keeping it charged or recharging it that way.
  18. yeah I thought the forecast for Sat seemed ok, you picked it. I would have given it a crack as well if I didn't have so much work on. I had a look at the surf cams yesterday, looked good all day, a bit of swell but really smooth on top. That break has moved in closer, I hope it hangs around a bit longer for a final crack at the marlin and big dollies, or any dollies for that matter. Unfortunately next week doesn't look good weather wise. well done on the blue eye, great fish
  19. if anyone is trolling tomorrow, that temp break has moved in closer, its just inside Heatons now, 24-25 along the edge there was a lot life along the edge of it on Tuesday, flying fish, birds, whales, and we got one marlin hook up on it good luck to anyone heading out, unfortunately I got too much work on
  20. LOL, I'm sure I will get at least a one Stripped Tuna to the boat next time
  21. no probs, hey how did you guys go for the rest of the day after the 12 mile?
  22. we got out today, we went for that break 50 miles out. Soon as we found it, blue water, flying fish, big pods of pilot whales, went from 22.5 to 24.5 over a couple of miles. We hooked one small striped tuna as soon as we got there but lost it at the boat, then nothing until about 1pm when we hooked pretty decent blue, it took the corner lure and came leaping out, kinda of looked like it was in the bill not the mouth, tried setting it with the boat but we it dropped at the end of its first run. I'm getting too old for this that trip was brutal for me, we started heading back around 3, I didn't want to stay out any later at that distance, almost 3hrs running getting back, plus I have to watch the fuel on my boat, it was pretty low by the time we got in nice conditions though
