  1. at least you got something and you didn't hit the island, that's gotta count for something we haven't hooked anything decent either for a while now, just small stuff, just gotta be patient
  2. nice fish, thumbs up on the pizza delivery
  3. no probs, I might be heading tomorrow arvo, i'll let you know how I go
  4. yeah it was good, we got a few strikes, sometimes you don't even get that. Plus we got our first fish on the high speed thing which weights about half a kilo I'll tried texting you last week, I was going head out one arvo, but the weather turned to crap anyway.
  5. That's a bummer we got a few strikes on Wednesday arvo, I don't think any were marlin. We boated a small dollie and a couple of stripies. There were a few guys out and said they got nothing. just sounding bait all day.Water was brilliant 25-26 and we found tonnes of flying fish in it. Where abouts North did they get the Blue bite?
  6. I found someone to come along on short notice for an arvo session which always makes it easier. Plan was to go east of the shelf where the water drops from 26 to around 25. It was bit lumpier than expected so we could only manage 13-15 knots without it being uncomfortable. So we stuck out 2 high speed Scent Blazer prototypes to troll all the way out. About 8 miles out we hooked something at 13 knots, I thought it was a plastic bag at first but I could see some yellow on it. It was a small Dollie. I don’t know how long we were dragging it around, but both eyes were popped out and it was almost dead. It was a tad over 60cm so I didn’t feel so bad and kept it. We trolled that area for about 20 minutes and hooked another small Dollie but dropped it. Looking for something bigger we kept hi-speed trolling east. We got another strike on the high speed lure near the back of the shelf, we put the whole spread out at that point and kept trolling east. About 5 to 10 miles east of shelf we started coming across tonnes flying fish and birds in 25, we worked that area for most of the arvo. All we were hooking were Stripies. We landed a couple of small ones and one bigger one that went between 6 to 8kg, I called it a small YFT at first, it had some go in it. They were only taking our smallest lure which is a new 4” lure we’re developing that you put bait in head. We put some Squid in the head of it. The Stripies guts were full of small, silver, round fish about the size of a 5 cent piece. Anyway, we didn’t get anything big, but lots of strikes kept it interesting. I’m sure there would be marlin and big dollies around amongst all those flying fish just got to be out there at the right time.
  7. Mate, hope you find someone to get out there, conditions look pretty good, best alt and currents I've seen on the charts for about 4 weeks. I might head out tomorrow arvo if I can clear most of my work in the morning. I'll only get about 4hrs trolling in but I'll take it if I can get it, its about the only time I can get off. Friday looks good as well and its a public holiday, so its probably easier to get a crew. good luck
  8. that's unreal! rare indeed for Sydney Harbour, well done someone posted about a week back with a Spotted Mackerel, its global warming, Sydney is the new tropics
  9. everything eats them as well, about 2 years back about 1 mile east of the Whale Fad we found marlin, dolphins and small tuna feeding on massive schools of triggerfish, the marlin were billing huge bait balls of them and we often catch dollies that have them inside their stomachs Have a look at this shot taken on that same day, we hooked a Stripped Tuna right near the triggerfish school. While we were reeling in the Stripy the troll pro was sinking and we got this shot of what looks like a massive YFT. That troll pro shot was literally taken 1 mile east of the Whale Fad.
  10. this is how they look now, we are now just making them in pink plastic. We've had nothing but trouble with the paint jobs peeling off because they get a tonne of water pressure on them when they're towed, So I decided to keep the new lot really simple, this way the color can't come off I don't have any here but I am getting few sent over air freight in about a week before the main batch arrives. Send me a message if you want a couple and I'll get a few extra air freighted over.
  11. yeah it might be a really good year, someone told me they banned the Japanese from netting them around our waters about 3 years back, so that's why he reckons they are back in plague proportions off the Stockton wall for the last 2 weeks. This guy told me he has seen over 100 people lined along the wall fishing at night for them and everyone is catching them easily. A float, a light and a ganged pillie about 3 metres down.
  12. No probs, i'll get him to sign up, he can do freshwater reports. Hey I was in the tackle shop today getting some bait and the owner told me they have been catching Hairtail galore at the Stockton wall in Newcastle. About 2 guys came in buying gang-hook, pillies and lights while I was there. He said most guys are getting between 10 to 50 a session. He showed me photo of 40 that were caught in one session. He reckons they have been catching them for last 2 weeks
  13. not too much now, I am getting a new version this week for approval, if its ok t will probably another 6-8 weeks then then they be available. I calling these ones an Atom
  14. on a ungamefishing related note, apart from our blue water customers overseas, we are now getting customers using our trolling lures for freshwater fish in the US and Canada. A couple of freshwater guys in the US tried our lures a while back with great success, so they brought some more, started telling others and we are now starting to see a trickle of sales from the freshwater fisherpeople over there. They're using our 6" and 8" trolling lures. we got this email and a few photos today which is really pleasing I tried a Scent Blazer Mini Slant Scoop Head green laminator with bait. The other two fishermen were using the two lures known to be the most successful in use on Lake Athabasca. Using the Scent Blazer, I out fished the other two 4:1. The Scent Blazer also caught the biggest fish over two days. I caught 3 lake trout over 40 pounds and another four in the thirties and many in the twenties. On the third day, I let my friend who had caught the least use the Scent Blazer and he out fished me 3:1 and caught the two biggest fish. I went back for the fall lake trout run. We all used Scent Blazers. I could only troll 100 yards before we had a fish on and caught many lake trout from 20 to 30 pounds. It is by far the hottest lure for lake trout I have ever seen. I also tried it on salmon in Alaska trolling off the back of the boat with a 20 ounce weight. It only went down about 6 feet, but it caught as much as the lures on downriggers at 25 feet. I am in the process of buying a fishing lodge on Lake Athabasca and I would like to contact someone at Scent Blazer about selling the lures.
  15. yeah it's I hard to find time now, I might adopt a new philosophy, "my work is going to be there regardless, so I'll do my work after I go fishing" It can be really crappy with a strong current, but I was just happy to get out there and get a few strikes, stripies, dollies, it's all good. I'm a realist you are not going hook marlin every time. I might try to out there a bit more after next week, i'll let you guys know.
  16. Bugger all in terms of landing anything decent. I just boated 3 small Stripped Tuna out of 7 hook-ups. I had a really late start but decided to take it because I’ve haven’t been offshore for about 5 weeks. Only got about 4hrs trolling in but it's better than nothing Anyway the lures went in around 3.30pm about 8 miles out in 22.5. I passed a couple of fads I had marked for zeros. From there I trolled to the Botany Fad, water there was 26 with a 3 knot plus current. The boat barely moved alongside the fad. It was like everything was in slow motion. I spotted some birds near the fad and followed them, about 10 minutes later I got a small Stripy. I autopsied the Stripy and found small undigested Leatherjackets in it. I cut up one of the small Leatherjackets and put it inside a 6” black and blue over gold lure to try and match the color of the Leatherjackets. That literally was the only lure that got hit the rest of the afternoon, mainly Stripies but something bigger hit it as well but it didn’t stick. I even moved the lure to short corner and it was still the only lure that was hit. I had another lure out which was same size in red and black and it didn’t get touched. Then I saw a huge black mass moving near the boat, I thought it was a shadow of a cloud at first but I could see flickers of gold in it and a few dolphins around it. I decided to put the troll pro out to try and record it. It turns out the big black mass were millions of Leatherjackets which probably explains why that lure was the only lure getting hit. Good luck to anyone heading out and maybe try Leatherjackets for bait J
  17. hey, did you get the fish off a jetty? If so which one? I might ditch my boat
  18. that's unreal, looks like the wash of an outboard
  19. Haven't managed to get offshore for about 5 weeks now but I did manage get out on the harbour with my dad and some relos for about 4hrs. Anchored up at 40 Baskets amongst the boat moorings. Lots of small snapper, small flathead and tailor then we got a Kingie bite for around 15 minutes. Boated one that went almost 70cm, dropped another and lost another that we couldn't stop on our bream gear. I am not sure if was a kingie or some sort of shark because it bit through 40lb trace and we literally couldn't get a wind on it, it was unstoppable on 6kg braid. Just using pillie cubes on a 2 hook dropper rig.
  20. Bummer, but thanks for the report. All information is good information
  21. They said it was near the Sydney Fad and they were heading out from Botany, so I would say that's the fad near The Peak?
  22. Is it just me or are others just too busy to go fishing these days? I seem to be working 3 times as hard and earning 3 times less I haven't been out for about 5 weeks, I got this from a customer yesterday using our gear, he caught it on the weekend heading out from Botany. We got another report today from another customer who hooked a few small blacks and landed one just inside the 12 Mile. Seems to be a lot of fish out there from all reports. I'm hoping to head out this Thursday for a few hours in the arvo if the north easterly's aren't too strong. http://www.scentblazer.com/MyScentBlazer/Competitions/ManthosPapadopoulos.aspx Peter
  23. unreal, I know its hard to tell exactly from your photo, but I think he looks bigger than 50Kg, well done
  24. wow, that's unreal, that would be rare catch off Sydney, I blame global warming, Sydney will become the new tropics
