  1. Hey mate, Not much experience with Samaki but I purchased a 9ft Shimano Nexave about 4 months ago and am very happy with it, it casts up to 40g I think, but I can easily get away with 50g metals. They do a 7ft version also. Only around $100-$120 if memory serves me correct. Very reliable rod. Trent.
  2. Not a problem mate! I'm going to go scout them out sometime soon and I'll let you know how it goes. I've heard of them being caught there but only small rats and I've only seen one landed there. I think the area is overfished as there is easily 20-30 people trying to get the point.
  3. Yeah I've been told to avoid bolga. The locals aren't the friendliest of people. Yeah I hate to see places trashed. Really ruins the serenity of fishing. Any knowledge of burning palms?
  4. Hey guys, I'm upgrading my gear and looking for some new rock ledges to target Kings when the water warms up towards the end of the year so I've been doing some research on spots around Helensburgh/National Park. I've found two ledges that seem alright. Has anyone fished these areas, I'm just looking for some info on walking tracks to Era and Bolga and how rough they are, just trying to determine the amount of gear I can get away with carrying? Thanks.
  5. These are also on sale in Tackleworld, if you are a bit weary of internet purchases like me. My mate bought one to use down JB and they handle really nicely. Very smooth, good drag system. Had it lined with 30lb braid and a aerowave graphite heavy surf rod for just over 300. back on topic, congratulations on the catch mate, been pulling up donuts around here lately. Bring on summer!
  6. Nice haul of squid mate. Where about is that boat ramp? I was down there Tuesday-Sat and has a cracking first two days then the seals followed us to every ledge for the last 3 days and we ended up with nothing worthwhile. Seems they really are out in force at the moment down there, there was 4-5 of them at each spot we tried.
  7. I'm up here housesitting and Ive never been to the area before and wanted to hit up pittwater with soft plastics. Can anyone let me know of some decent wharfs or land based areas. Thanks guys
  8. You could be right mate. We hit up beecroft yesterday and tubes today and it was very quiet, there were two seals doing to rounds at both places. Hitting up beecroft tomorrow morning for one last Ditchh effort at some thing worthwhile
  9. Of beecroft ledge or the tubes? No worries either way I'll grab some and send them in a pm for you.
  10. I usually fish coalcliff rocks or wattamolla. Unfortunately I have to stick to places that usually have a few people at them because I only really get to go alone so it's safer.
  11. Oh OK Thanks for that mate. Yeah I'm looking a tld 30 2speed in the next few months with 24kg ugly stick then I'll have another crack down here
  12. Yeah I am...I'm not really too familiar with hooking large fish from the rocks so I thought the double might help? Or am I completely wrong haha. The largest fish I have ever caught from rocks had been just over one and a half Kgn so I'm a bit out of my league. But it's all good fun and good learning. Yeah I love this knot I just think I messed it up. Although that said it could have been my braid that snapped. Going to try the tubes tomorrow when it opens. Bit of a bought current out at beecroft at the moment very strong northerly.
  13. Unfortunately not yet I am looking at a TLD 30 2Speed but seeing as I'm land based and rarely get huge fish where I live it doesn't Warrent the cost just yet. I was using 60lb fluro on a 80lb wire trace. To be honest I wasn't expecting anything like that to come along. The 8000 Did struggle a bit but my lack of experience with big fish also played a huge factor. Thanks mate. Sure was mate. The knot itself is great but I was only using 30lb braid doubled with 60lb lead. I think the reason it failed was due to the fish changed from being happily dragged in to deciding it wanted a run before I could adjust my drag and it just couldn't handle it. I've tried adding a few more twists to the beginning of the knot to see how it fairs. Bit of an off topic but how is the beach in currarong for fishing?
  14. Thanks mate. Well I think I found my motivation to get back out there haha. Thanks mate. I was using hanged pillies. They werent responding to spinning which was weird for bonnies. It's down in currarong. Northern Jervis Bay.
  15. Hey all. I got down to currarong yesterday anf had a quick sesh on beecroft and ended up throwing a live bonnie out anf hooked a 6ft mako shark...needless to say snapped me off as i wasnt planned on hooking one. But it was amazing to see it just charge for my bait and leap out of the water to thrash about. Went out today to hopefully hit up some nice fish. Started early around 6am waited a bit for the sun to fully shine some light and tried to catch some livies... must of waited too long as I only nabbed one. We ended up getting slot of bonnies around 35-50 cm so I decided to throw a live one out under a balloon. After waiting about an hour he was out around the 50-70 metre mark and I decide to go grab a drink from my pack next thing I know my shimano 8000 is screaming and I lost around 200 metres of line when the fish finished it's first run. Managed to get some line back and the fight began. As after about 15 minutes I had worked it down to only around 100 metres left when it went for one huge run and my fg knot failed...needless to say I wasn't to most friendly person after that little encounter. Not sure what it was? Maybe a hoodie? Didn't fight just headed out like a submarine. When I was dragging it in it wasn't fighting at all it would just let me bring it in....to be honest I think it was playing me..haha. After few quiet hours of no bites I ended up nailing a massive bonnie. Don't have the exact size but would have easily hit 65-70 cm. New pb which is good. Was hoping to head back tomorrow for a another crack but I sprained my ankle on the walk out. All in all good trip resting my ankle now hoping it recovers for the rest of the week.
  16. Hey all Heading down there Tuesday and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some land based reports? I can only find ones down as far as kiama. Any help is appreciated
  17. I find them very hard also in winter, I've only seen one guy catch them where I fish, he uses breadrolls for burley, about a day old and stale he just breaks it up into chucks mixed with seawater, no crumbing it, just half fist sized chunks. All I need to know is a sure fire way of catching them at Mermaids Inlet. If any locals could share some LB spots/methods that would be great. Did get told about a little ravine to the northern end.
  18. I fished up at Wattamolla with reports of big red. I only fish landbased and got one on my first day there, I think if you head to the mouth of the bay there should be some. Thats the reports I've been given form a few of the Wollongong tacklshops
  19. Tell me about it haha. Didn't fight all It did was act dead and occupationally point for the sea floor Thanks mate! Yeah it's going around everywhere lately. Always next time
  20. Nice haul mate! Which charter was it? and how did you get a ride on it? (I'm asking because I'm interested in getting on one in the future)
  21. USA. For Tarpon BIG Barracuda doesn't matter where. Mako or thresher shark... anywhere. Locations don't really matter as anywhere is good when there are fish around: P
  22. Thanks guys! Yeah I hope so Dfishin. On holidays now so I hope they come easier as I have so much more time to fish!
  23. Nailed my first Snapper today out at Wattamolla. Came in at 60cm and around 2kgs. I went out today with some reports of big reds there but with my luck trying to fish for them was always going to be a joke. I got down to the rocks at 12pm and had nothing but small bites all day, switched rigs, changed hooks...did everything I could imagine to entice the buggers but nothing save for a small ray which went back in the drink. I switched spots, ended up chucking out a whole Slimey tail nothing hit it on the first retrieve then about 10 mins later BAM my rod when down. AT first I thought it was a salmon or tailor or maybe even a small shark because it wasn't really fighting, save from going down deep as it could. Then the beauty showed itself and I screamed "SNAPPER". Pretty stoked with it! Been trying off an on for the past 6 months to nail one and I finally did!. Cheers.
  24. Cheers for that mate, I might give that a go. Nothing worse than loosing rig after rig
