  1. No worries mate. I'll be heading there around 1. I had my luck with ganged pillies on a Paternoster. I'm going to give my spin gear a go also as well as baits.
  2. Thanks mate, any idea how deep it is off the edge there?
  3. Ah OK Yeah it was the track I was thinking of. Thanks for that mate. Ill give it a go Friday depending on the conditions.
  4. Hey guys, Heading down to Currarong in the last week of June to do some Land Based fishing. I'm bringing the old man with me and would like to give us the best chance of hooking some quality fish. I've never fished Beecroft - the last time I went down there it was 4+m swells - So I'm wondering what species have been active down there at this time of the year. We will be live baiting with squid/yakkas and chucking some poppers/stickbaits out. Any info would be appreciated. Trent
  5. Hey mate, that's a shame about the little one. I fished just off the corner of the beach. Due to the rain that little lagoon has turned into a small - yet very fast paced - river running straight into the bay, that's why I think they were there, So I fished on a little patch of sand/rock between the river and the rock ledge, only had to cast out maybe 15-20 metres. Nah the other bloke didn't catch anything which I thought was weird and he had two rods going. I'm going to be back there Friday from around midday to fish the incoming tide again, you're welcome to come if you have the free time. Hopefully I can hook onto some tailor or something else.
  6. I saw a bloke fishing off there he didn't last too long the swell was pretty rough. I think I saw the track, is it up the hill from the toilets? Do you just use a flat rig? Cheers
  7. That's good news, I am about to cook mine now. I can definitely recommend you try that beach, about 20 min north of Stanwell park, not really affected by swell or wind...I'd say it's better in a rough swell.
  8. So after two weeks without even so much as looking at the ocean I decided to layer on my clothes and venture out for my first time to Wattamolla Beach this morning. I arrived at 8am to a closed gate thinking..."damn that's be right" so I headed down to Garie beach to have a cuppa to warm up. There was a tonne of people down there fishing and the conditions looked less than favourable. I decided I might as well try my luck looking for another beach to fish and low and behold I drove past Wattamolla and the gates had opened. Anyways I get down there and there is no one there, the water looked pretty rough but no white wash which was good. I baited up and within a second of the bait hitting the water I was on - I didn't even get a chance to sit down - I pulled up a nice 50~ cm Aussie Salmon. I'm thinking to myself now..."damn, that must be good omen". I cast out my next bait...sat down then bam! on again to an even bigger model. Rigged up again Bam! again, at this point I'm sort of laughing at myself, it was me alone on this beach with a seagull with one foot. Long story short I got 4 Salmon in 15 minutes. After the fourth, I noticed a tangle on my spool so I cast out and tried to clear it up...turns out my braid had snapped about 30-40 metres in and just as luck would have it, I hooked on to a fish and lost everything. Annoyed I cleaned up the 4 Salmon I had and sat there having a cuppa (so glad I brought a thermo of tea at this point) and I said "one last cast then I'm going" on again in a matter of seconds and then again for number 6. At this point another bloke rocked up saw my fish and decided to fish from the rocks just north East of me and cast out directly across the beach. Decided to call it at this point due to the rain and wind. But yeah, not a bad first trip to that beach...and here I was saying I hated beach fishing Going to try out a recipe I found on here for fishcakes. I got a new PB out of my Aussie Salmon too, in at 64cm
  9. Would anyone be interested in being game and hitting Wattamolla Beach tomorrow? I'm going to be getting there around 530am just before sunrise. If anyone is keen to hit it up and comes down, Ill be the bloke with a dull green jacket on probably freezing the old family jewels off. On a side note, any chance to catch livebait in the lagoon there?
  10. I use a 8000 Shimano Navi reel with a Aerowave 12" graphite Heavy surf rod for my rock fishing, spooled with 30lb braid. Works fine for Bonnies, Sambos...even snapper off the bottom (when I'm extremely lucky) but the max height I fish from would be 4-6ft. Although I did land a 60cm Sambo from the cliffs on Target beach in JB with it maybe 20ft high, took a lot of effort and a mate to help though. Wouldn't want to do that regularly. Not too costly either I think they go for around $180-200 All in all I really like Shimano never had any problems with them, have a 2500, 2 4000 an 8000 and about to buy a TLD25.
  11. Hi Michael I've never been there but going to try and get out there sometime this weekend. If you're heading from the south it's the right turn after garie beach turnoff. Should lead to a carpark then it's a short walk from the beach. I may be a little wrong as my info is from Google maps and my old mans bad memory haha Let me know how it goes mate
  12. Thanks mate, sent you a reply Hi Huey, Thanks for that, where is the boat of the week section, I couldn't find it on your site. Yeah I understand I'm limited to my budget but yeah, anything that will get me out around 1km just so I have a chance at some nice Kings/bonnies etc.
  13. Thanks alot for the replies guys! I will need to do a bit more research and go out and have a look. I will look in to the Brooker 410 from what I can see that is what I'm after
  14. Wow I really didn't consider those options, seems I need to do a little more research, thanks! I'm wanting to spend no more than $6000. Being my first boat and a student that my maximum budget. Thanks, how old would you consider too old?
  15. Hey guys, so I decided I am going to buy my first boat. I have come here seeking a little bit on info to set me on the right track, as I've never owned a boat I need some info on what size is suitable for what I want to do I am looking at something around 12-14ft just to get me offshore, not too far. Targeting Kings, Bonito, maybe Snapper and anything that I can find not too far offshore Would someone be able to point me in the direction of what I should be looking for in terms of engine and hull size. Will be buying a second hand one too if that helps. Thanks, if you need any more info I'll try to provide as much as possible
  16. Nice haul mate, You are game for going out this morning though haha bloody cold
  17. I might be headed down Friday night also, might see you there! Thanks mate, just got my thermals in the mail, good timing I think!
  18. Anyone heading down there tonight? or am I the only one dumb enough to brave the cold
  19. I'm terrible at catching them but, Morning/afternoon night (when its not too light) off jetty's and wharfs are apparently the best times but I've seen people catch their limits in the middle of the day off the rocks Depending what I'm trying to catch I usually use a size 8 owner live bait hook pinned just under the fin about 1m of trace to a swivel then a float. Some people hook them through the nose, but I don't catch enough to experiment with it. Hope that helps
  20. Might have to give it a go mate, Yeah mate will do!
  21. Might have to hit up Windang again soon. Gave up on it late last year. What time have you had most success and is it very busy? I saw your post about the Jews also, nice work!
  22. Gave it a miss unfortunately due to the old man bailing, hit up the Stone with no luck. Still, a day spent fishing is a day spent better than at work/uni Ah ok, thanks for the info on the Poddies, will have to collect some and send them out
  23. Might be heading down there this afternoon to take advantage of my day off, noticed its a southerly swell and northerly wind. Which part of the beach am I most likely to have success in in these conditions. I've never really taken too much notice on the seldom times I choose the beach over the stones, but I'm taking the old man and would like to have a better chance at catching something. Flathead, Salmon, Tailor doesn't really matter. Also, can you catch live poddies in the creek on the southern side? Cheers Trent
  24. That's what I thought, although I have heard some stories about people fishing for jews and landing kings, thought I'd ask
