  1. Congratulations mate! Gives us all hope that big fish do exist for land based
  2. So last week I tried my first go at night rock fishing at Coalcliff (caught my first Scorpion fish 22cm) There were guys there nailing squid left right and centre so I decided I'm going to get some yakkas and try my hand at it, and using squid as live bait. Will be going out this friday night and taking advantage of the tide and calm conditions. I've sorted my rig out using 30lb braid with 60lb fluro lead and a running rattle float with a size 10 live bait hooks. I was just wondering if there is any chance at catching jews in this area, or even some rogue kings. There were decent sized tailor (35-45cm) being caught off salted pillies under a float but seeing as I'm pretty new to night fishing any advice would be welcomed.
  3. nah using snapper rig from bottom, too windy for surface yeah looked like a flathead cross rock cod, really fat with a huge spike ah ok, ive heard that's a pretty decent beach in good conditions
  4. I didn't end up going out at Bass, My mate bailed on me. I ended up heading out to Coalcliff till about 10pm, got a couple of Scorpion fish which was pretty cool, fist time I caught them.
  5. I am also wondering this. Just bought a few jigs and haven't had the luck I had with the old yakka on a spike.
  6. Planning on heading out to Bass Point Tomorrow (11/5) afternoon. Anyone planning on heading out? My first time fishing the area, would be good to have someone who knows it with me.
  7. Just an update, unfortunately aeb870's available and my times don't really work out that well but he did provide some awesome info! So, just hoping that someone who could make the mentioned times(alot more free time come late june) could mentor me in catching kings/yakkas for bait. I am also easy if it comes to making the trek upto Sydney area if it's not too far. So if anyone is keen to take on a learner send me a PM Thanks, Trent
  8. Yeah I really hate the sand, it just seems to get on everything, even stuff I don't use :| When I was there last night there was quite a few guys on the north end right up near the rocks and same deal to the southern end. I did hear a bit of cheering so they might of got lucky.
  9. Yeah all the times I have fished Stanwell Park my line has moved quite a bit, I've found Scarborough beach to be alright and caught some decent flathead there. I'm not very fond of beach fishing though.
  10. I have been there a couple of times over the past month, and never really got anything bar some Salmon and undersized Flathead. I went out last night but got the same conditions as you.
  11. Hey guys My names Trent, 23 years old. From the Illawarra going to uni and working, love my rock fishing although, uni, work and bad water conditions have kept me off them recently. Love the site, I have learnt so much and I like the helpful community, hopefully I'll have the knowledge to share some tips Cheers.
  12. Hey guys let me just say, this website has taught me SO much and helped me improve my fishing a lot. I'm 23 and have recently gotten back into fishing (in a big way) over the past year and was looking for someone to take me under their wing and show me the techniques for catching Kings. I'm still not all too experiences, all I generally catch are Bonnies/Salmon and the odd Tailor here and there but I'm not useless. I'm looking for mainly fishing off the rocks. I have my own gear which should be able to handle them. Your name: Trent Your Location: Helensburgh (smack bang in between Sydney and Wollongong) Fishing technique: Kings on lures and catching and live baiting yakkas Availability: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays after 1 and Sundays after 3. (sorry it's so picky, uni and work takes most of my time) Preferred location: Wollongong Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? No (don't have one) Thanks guys, even some tips would be appreciated.
