  1. I wanna get stuck into these. Last time I tried ducks made it impossible. Hey try fool them with some sort of sponge on a hook with some s factor on it. Pound for pound they put up a good fight. Theres a small pond shall we call it near my place. Its full of eel. They should introduce these there. Its isolated. It'd give kids something to look at and feed and give me something to do!

Lol they're trying to legalize bow hunting carp.

  2. From wharf road up to iron cove. I was fishing there on monday with Pete. Water was crystal clear which wasnt good. We moved to another spot further up river and we scored bream and pete dropped a good number off fish and we both got busted a couple of times. Shoot me a pm man ill bring my gear down and well go for a fish.

  3. Carp cost more to buy in the shops than Australian Salmon and I actually see people buying them. If anyone can suggest where I can get these on my line around Parramatta that would be great. Ive tried parramatta lake but its near impossible to burly for them without 2000 ducks coming and stealing the bread. I saw a few guys fishing down near the bats meeting point in parra park. They looked setup with heavy gear I did laugh quite alot but I assume there is carp there. Not to keen to fish near those bats incase they carry bat lyssavirus.

  4. That size is awesome on 8lb line 4kg rod and soft plastics. Thats how I took down my first king. It tasted good but I think the prize is in the fight.

Good stuff man, and good to see it wasn't hard to get yakka. I find in winter the yakka are generally huge and not so easy to find as summer.

  5. Ive got a fly rod. Was using it to target some bream yesterday until I snagged my fly in one of the trees. I bought one of the original penn international rods. I think I was in with a good chance yesterday if that tree didn't take my fly. My rods an 8wt with 6lb tapered leader setup and a 6lb flurocarbon tippet. Its not easy. Ive practiced for hours at home casting. I can make some good 20m plus casts. When I put it into practice I rush my casts and they flop. You must be patient. If you see someone fly fishing the parra give me a shout lol.

  6. Yeah definitely not heading out anytime soon. Its gonna be a 0 wind <1m swell with no sight of rain. Also need to get a new set of flares and depending on how far out this place is, gonna have to organise an EPIRB for the boat.

I wouldn't even land fish in this wind! 1.5weeks of solid rain, now we get these insane winds! Cmon weather, settle down

  7. Awesome stuff. Sounds like an absolute blast. Is a 5.3m aluminium with 90hp capable of getting to this place and back? Is this a known spot with other boaters? Ive never been off shore so I really wouldn't want to fish kilometers off shore and have no idea where I am and if something goes wrong theres absolutely no one around.

  8. You may get caught. Those fish eat anything. Pyrmont wharf has a sign that says keep this wharf open for fishing but right behind it is another sign that says no fishing permitted. I threw bread in there and the bream were brutal. Its tempting to take plastics and use that signage as leeway but risky stuff.

  9. Does it matter if the bow isn't flat? They look awesome on the bream tournament type of boats as theyre flat and sit low but mine sits fairly high on the front. My main use for it would be to drift the boat with some control of direction when needed. Starting the outboard isnt hard but it feels overly unnecessary.

What brand do you have? I wouldnt mind a unit with a foot pedal if it isnt going to break the bank.

  10. Hey all

Just after some info for a trolling motor. Its a 5.3m with a 90hp on the back and two batteries. Looking at the bow of the boat I think im gonna go with a transom mount. Would a 55lb el cheapo be sufficient? I can't afford one of the fancy pedal units and I believe they are severely over priced. Just not sure if one of the lower powered units will be able to push and hold the boat.

  11. Quality information here guys much appreciated. See I think you hit my issue. I'm coming from a egg beater/over head fishing gear so for me seeing line lay is generally crucial as poor line lay can result in wind knots, bellies in the line, biting in the braid etc. I think what I am trying to get at was pointless by the looks of things because after taking into consideration how you fish with fly gear, you really aren't going to fuss about the line lay because as you said, most of the line is layed on the ground or water ready for the next cast.

The way my reel is setup there is a good amount of backing with good leader but often I find my winds are too much to one side and the line will hit the reel at some points and I gotta pull the line and lay it on evenly so I can fit it all on. If you understand what I mean.

For me since this style of fishing is very far and few inbetween my usual methods of fishing, I am not too keen on spending much. The last time I used my fly setup was about 4 months ago. I found one nice reel which got a good review on eBay but unfortunately I can't find that reel anywhere. I'll try find the video of the reel and post it up here. The reel was 59 and from the states, suitable for salt water use and had a large arbor.

I found a spot to harass some bream with my fly gear so gonna try it out and if I like it, I'll probably dedicate more effort into it. I tried for trout and bass those months back but was really hard going as I wasn't wearing waders and there was next to no room to cast and fish. I was too unprepared.

  12. Hey man cheers for the reply. I was referring to the fly line. It hard to lay evenly and I feel if I spend time there fixing that up, one cast and retrieve is gonna undo it all because when you're in a rush against a fish I don't think Ill be focusing on laying line but it bumps up too much at some points and any more it will make contact with the body of the reel. I use mucilin treatment.

  13. Hey all.

Have a bit of an issue. Ive tried 3 times to get even line lay and cant do it. Its bumpy and looks like shit. Ive checked online for nothing of use. Youtube shows people using machines.

Does have any tips? I could do it very slowly and cautiously but I will be there all week.

Also seeking a new fly reel for my 8wt. Anybody able to suggest something i can use in salt which isnt expensive?

  14. Record holder? Those things are disgusting. I feel disgusted by them. The first time I ever saw one was when it was crawling out of a yakkas mouth. Do they secrete bacteria or any toxins? From what ive heard they rob the fish of food and nutrients and thats about it.

  15. how do you propose this jewfish was holding your bait while moving away?

    pushing it with his nose,

    holding it in his hand?

no it was in its mouth

set the drag. and try 7/0s and always. . .always have a big bait in the water.

This is what I say to people alot. Theyre like let it run let it run. its in a fishes mouth. Strike and strike hard. People also don't realise its not always a jewfish. Ive been jewfishing many times and people see a tiny tap on their rod and start yelling jewfish jewfish. Im like relax theres about 10 other kinds of fish it could be. When a jewfish takes a big bait you'll know about it.
