  1. ahaha i cleaned them up for eating and then decided i need a photo.
  2. decided to go for my first blackfish outing today. rocked up at chowder at 5 and went for a long weed scrounge. managed to find a hand full of the crappiest weed known to man. i knew the blackies would be at chowder at dawn as i always see them swimming around. also had the hightide at 7am and i was in luck, first light i began burleying up and massive schools of blackies rocked up. in a matter of minutes the exiting moment of seeing the float go down for the first time, pulling up and the float doesnt resurface. FISH ON! i played with the fish a bit as i didn't have a net. i should invest in one as i would have bagged out. lost many fish to the old swing up onto the wharf manoeuvr. anyway, managed to land 5 keepers and gave 1 to another fisho. nothing like targeting a species and nailing it first go :P i would have fished all day, great fun this species is, alas no weed left, and any weed i could find was even worse than previous and would not stay on the hook. if anyone would PM with any tips on obtaining weed please let me know!!! tight lines!
  3. i never have luck during the day. always catch 25+cm hoods at night. low light ie. sunrise/sunset on a high tide and your in for a good chance. otherwise go on a hightide during the night. all you need to do now is chuck out the jig they prefer at that given time
  4. its a striped pyjama squid. a venomous species of cuttlefish. i catch them every now and then when squiding, so you've found the right area, just patience.
  5. ultimately recreational size limits are probably better than none. rather have small fish than no fish at all! i think i know that wharf, i caught a disgusting catfish there and never went back haah.
  6. IMO its better to put the bigger fish back. i have read several papers suggesting recreational size limits are favouring smaller animals and therefore over time evolutionary forces will cause fish populations morphological features to become smaller. also life history events are changing causing animals to become fertile at a younger age but lowering their fecundancy. this also relates to nets used in commercial fishing. smaller fish can escape the mesh. interesting concepts i must say.
  7. 65cm still impressive. Big ones are fun to fight on light gear.
  8. i got a 71cm one the other night on whole pilchard. i think they like the rain
  9. haha a seal swims past early on in the vid. thats awesome
  10. I was just anchoring a small pilchard with a light paternoster and waiting. nothing fancy
  11. hit up clifton gardens last night, had the wharf to myself, and it was very, very quite. started wondering why no one else was there and what they knew that i didn't. suddenly my cheapy rod, with a shimano reel started screaming. i have a shoulder injury so my mate took on the fish and eventually a decent flatty surfaced and we went home happy! cheers!
  12. its a gun jig works best out of all my yo zuris. haha has to be my 2nd favourite part. 1st is fighting the squid. 2nd is dodging its inkshot
  13. the whole of chowder produces squid. IMO its a perfect habitat for them. if you can get up the front long cast straight out as they tend to hang out before the drop off into deeper water. however i have had luck fishing weed patches in shallows with slow sinking jigs, 2.5 or less. explore the entire area until you find some
  14. 3.25g and its a colourful jig. mostly orange with yellow/white pattern and blue spots. also has a glow patch underside body.
  15. Hi raiders, been getting into squid fishing this winter and its great fun and even tastier. got these two at Chowder on Monday evening on Yo Zuri. Had a third take but I neglected using a net . Cheers!
  16. if the rain holds off head to areas around palm beach ferry wharf. use a selection of yo zuri, yamashita jigs: i personally like orange/brown but it really does come down to what you find works and the conditions somewhat. aim for squid and keep fishing for squid, live the pillies for another time. im sure you will find some squid then fish that area.
  17. haha rigor mortis set in so couldnt straighten the fish out. but yes at first i thought whiting! and was disapointed. ive read longfinned pike taste okay, but ive also read they taste horrible but are great baits so used for bait and was rewarded! cheers, it was a pleasure catching that flatty.
  18. Hi, New to forum and very new to fishing. starting to get the hang of it with a few recent catches Spit Bridge caught several undersize tailor like this one at the pylons. had two very large hook ins, but they both managed to shake off in the shallows. damn. all tailor released caught what i beleive to be a seapike of some sort. kept him for bait. Avoca (saturday) despite all the sea weed intercepting my line i managed to hook this decent flathead in the gutter with the pike as bait. very pleased with this catch getting there! cheers!
