  1. Good catch mate, next opportunity I get I may move from my usual spots in the east to check out Roseville. My favorite trev receipie is similar to some mentioned above, but just that little bit different: Get a snap lock bag, throw in some flour, salt, pepper, chile flakes and a teaspoon of paprika. Chuck in the fillets, give'm a good dusting and shallow pan fry them until golden brown. Squeeze lemon juice over them and tuck in, my daughter and I salivate just thinking about it.
  2. Hey mate, Things have gone so quiet it's not funny, I've been fishing everyday morning, noon and night. I'm fishing in bays, off the rocks, in rivers and there is nothing doing...well at least for me that is. I've seen others pull salmon around coogee and Bronte, so that gives me some hope as for La Pa' well I was there Monday afternoon until sunset, using pillies and all I got was snagged 3 times and had no bites What I've been working on is catching yakkas, as they went MIA for me over the last month, but I've managed to catch 30 in the last two days...there's my bait for the weekend! I hope the salmon will find my yakkas more attractive than everyone else's pillies off the rocks. Take it easy and good luck
  3. Congrats mate that is just an awesome fish!!!!!!!

    Squid

great catch, what size squid-jigs did you use?
  5. Thanks everyone You're all right about the smell, but once I filleted it the smell was gone. When I filleted the fish I thought it was a whiting, so I looked up videos on how to fillet a whiting, and the Pike does have the same bone structure as a whiting. Since posting this I've chucked the fillets into my bait container, so I think I'll use it as bait for Jewies. But the next time I catch one I'll cook it up and let you all know what I think. Thanks again! ExtremeT
  6. Awesome catch mate, where is WB? is that Watsons Bay? Cheers
  7. Hi Raiders Couldn't stay home last night even though the state of origin was on, noticed there was a break in the rain, hit the record button and took off. Started in my usual fashion trying to catch Yakkas on a handline, 30 minutes in I was on...when I pulled it out I couldn't work out what it was? At first I thought it's a huge Yakka , then I thought whiting (which it looks like to me) but I have never seen one with teeth like this. Can anyone assit me to identify this fish and let me know if I should eat it or not. I caught it in Watsons Bay. Cheers Extreme.
  8. Friday afternoon finished work early and got to the baiting grounds by 5pm, pulled out the hand line and started hunting Yakkas. Managed to nab 12 of the little suckers, filled the second bucket with water and handed them to my brother in law to look after for the night. He changed the water twice during the night, but unfortunately we forgot about one thing....changing the battery on the aerator by 4am all the Yakkas were dead. We still headed out to Watsons Bay at 4:30am, tried using the Yakkas as bait but nothing touched them...does anyone know why??? or was it just one of those mornings? Just before the sun came up I threw out a Pillie and bang I was on, pulled up a legal lizard that was big enough to go onto my PB board. After that I got one big bite that bent my rod and had the reel screaming, but I lost it before we could see any colour. Overall not a very productive morning but at least I got a feed out of it.
  9. Who would you report it too...local council or environment and heritage department?
  10. Sick of our usual Friday night fishing spot in the East, so we headed down south to see what we could find. Stumbled across the Yowie Bay wharf, the place was spacious and looked perfect to fish. We tossed in our lines one using prawns and the other on chicken, the bites started hitting instantaneously and a few minutes in, up came the first and only fish for the night....a baby snapper. Then the bites stopped, I had a burley trail of pillies and chicken pellets flowing...but nothing was attracted. I switched to soft plastics to see if I could catch something on the flick, but no there was nothing doing ;( After a while I walked over to my burley and noticed something that looked like a net in the water, upon closer inspection we realised this was not a net, but a large layer of oil or something; this is what we saw floating in it We could not fish there anymore, so we packed up and started to leave when we noticed 10 squid along the floor of the boat ramp. Not sure how they got there, but I think they just wanted to get out of that water....it was so bad. does anyone have any productive spots down south?
  11. Hi Steve I'm normally fishing on the wharf, from 9pm to 1am. It can be high tide or low tide..it doesn't matter we are getting nothing luckily we are still having a great time cheers we'll try the wall in high tide and see what happens.
  12. Hi Raiders Been hitting Rosebay for a few weeks on a Friday night now, and it's dead. I'm looking for a land based spot preferably in the East where I can catch some fish, bigger than 10cm. If you have anywhere to share with me please do.. cheers
  13. yep crumbed them and fried them up, tasted like a prawn cutlet; they are a real pest kept chewing our soft plastics up and attacking our hooks when we chased Yakkas. Taste OK
  14. I'd love to catch a Jewy, where do I do that?
  15. Yea that's a bit of a bummer, are there squid around during the off season?
  16. I read heaps of reports from my fellow raiders, who talk of Kingfish, Jewies, etc in the harbour. Everytime we go fishing in it we land goldfish, maybe we're using the wrong bait, tackle or we just have no idea. Lately I've been frequenting a spot in Hermit bay, where people tell me they catch Kingfish and Jewfish; I've seen nothing impressive out there until yesterday when I swung by after work to check it out. As I sat there enjoying this beautiful Sydney weather, boom 3 rods all get hit within 30 seconds of each other; two of them lose whatever they had, but one guy reels in the biggest fish I've seen pulled from the harbour...a 60cm + Aussie Salmon. I'm told that bigger fish like Kingies and Salmon only come around during the day, is this true??? If not is there anything special I need to do, to attract them? Picture of the Aussie Salmon
  17. Had a day off work last Tuesday to get on a fishing charter on Botany Bay.We started the morning at Trevally alley, fishing in the berley trail using baitrunners which I've never used before. we managed to pull up 12 Trevally in the first hour, which was quite enjoyable!! We then trawled with poppers searching for something bigger looking for a feed on the surface, but that wasn't successful. Our next move was to try soft plastics targeting flatheads along the edge of a sandy frenchmans bay, we pulled in one keeper. We then hit the baiting grounds for yakkas and squid, as it was time to chase what I had come there for....the KINGYS!!!! Caught no squid, 10 Yakkas and 3 Chinamen which I've never seen before. Once we got to the KINGY spot we rigged up and cast out our livies, while we waited for the big one to hit we flicked around and pulled in another Flaty and an octopus, the 'pus went back into the drink as nobody wanted it; and the KINGYS didn't show So we headed back to the wharf after 7 hours on the water, learnt so much from our guide, caught some nice fish and had a great feed that night. Here's my share of our catch, the 40cm Trevally was the biggest we caught and I pulled the sucker in
