  1. Hi Raiders, I'm after little advice please. I have just recently fitted 2 new batteries, a VSR and switch to my boat. My question is, when doing a trickle charge, do I need to disconnect the batteries before charging? Thanks in advance. Rod.
  2. That's some great footage there Mark. Trung, I took your word and ventured out late yesterday into the Bay, it was too windy and we settled for the sand flats at Towra. We got a stack of flatties, most of which were throw backs. We did manage to take 4 home though. (Sorry, no photos) I need to clear space on the phone. 2 at just shy of 40cm and 2 near on 50cm. Of course there's always the one that got away. Something took me for a massive run, the fight was almost 5 minutes long with probably a little too much drag set, but it managed to straighten out my hook. I'd love to know what it was..!! My ticker is still pumping from it. On the upside to losing that fish, at least I know my knots hold up...!!! Thanks again to everyone for their responses. Cheers Rod.
  3. Thank you Trung, As I mentioned at the start of the post, I frequently check the site and have to say, your name is one that comes up a lot. Keep up the good work, fisho's like me need all the literature they can get their hands on. Cheers.
  4. Thanks Harry, Appreciate the pointers. Definitely heading out late this arvo for a go. So with any luck I might be able to post some pics of decent fish.
  5. Hello Raiders, I'm fairly well addicted to this site and check it far too many times a day. I have only recently got my 15ft Nautiglass in the water after 2 years of rebuilding it (work kept getting in the way), now it's in, I'm relatively new to boat fishing and spent a lot of time in the Bay over the break, with next to no success. Just a bunch of Reds and a couple of legal flatties. I'm heading out this afternoon to try the a.r's this afternoon and just wondering how they fish at the moment and if there are any techniques I should be aware of to increase my chances please? Ideally I would like to be targeting Kings, but I think I might have to let them come with experience, so basically anything decent would be nice. Once again, you don't get a better site for the novice to learn from Cheers.
  6. Hi Twinfisher, Well I'm definitely prepared for the commitment, but as far as the budget goes, I've thrown about 4 grand into my 15ft Nautiglass over the last couple of months and the missus will shoot me if I keep spending more. So, I guess the budget will be around $600.00 for a little while. I'm hoping that'll get me into some Kings over Summer. Thanks again and I look forward to your suggestions.
  7. Hi Raiders, I've almost got the boat ready for Summer and I'm relatively new to boat fishing. I'm hoping I could grab some thoughts and suggestions for a setup suitable for Kings and Snapper, including line types and terminal tackle. I'll be mainly fishing Botany Bay and the Hacking. Thanks in advance and I look forward to the replies.
  8. Thanks to all for your responses. I have certainly got some home work to do on the right battery selections. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks a lot for the prompt reply. Do you have any suggestions on battery types/size please?
  10. Hi Raiders, I'm hoping there might be few suggestions here for my new Dual Battery setup. I am basically after suggestions on which batteries to use. I have recently purchased 2 (100amp Circiit Breakers), a 120amp Voltage Sensitve Dual Battery Relay and am wanting to run the following; 70hp Mercury Nav Lights/Anchor Light LED's Marine Radio Fish Finder Phone Charger LED Strip Lighting Front/Rear Spots Underwater LED's A couple of Courtesy Lights here and there. Having only 1 motor on the boat, I don't want to get stuck with a flat battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Rod.
  11. Thanks for that Huey. Much appreciated. I've gotta day though, the bloke I bought it from told me it was an 88 model. That being said, it is an extremely well looked after motor for its age. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks Gazza for the prompt reply. I think I'll do that. Cheers mate.
  13. Hi Raiders, I'm hoping someone is able to assist in identifying my Mercury OB please. The only serial number I can locate is from what I guess is possibly the welch plug. The number is; 6164314 I am lead to believe it's an 88 70hp. But I would like to confirm this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rod.
  14. Hi Raiders, I'm hoping someone out there might know what year this model number is please; DT85. 8501 011924. I have searched high and low and have no idea. I currently have a 93 model DT85 and looking at buying the above-mentioned motor for parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Rod.
  15. Hi Raiders, It's been a while since I've been on here, but I'm hoping a fellow raider out there might be able to find me a either of the following please; A bare block & Cylinder Head Or a complete Power Head. It's a 1993 Suzuki DT85. Mine is completely pulled apart and ready for the rebuild, but I'm struggling finding the parts. The existing block is corroded pretty bad where the cylinder head meets it. It could probably be repaired, but I don't really have the means, nor have I been able to find someone I can trust to do the job for a fair price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Rod.
  16. Hi Raiders, Thanks to everyone for the responses, much appreciated. I've decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. It's definitely time it was retired anyway. Cheers Rod Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Hi Raiders, I have a Lowrance X55 Fishfinder and am in need of a new Transducer. I guess I have a couple of questions I'm hoping to find the answer to. 1st. Does anyone know if the cable can be repaired? It's been cut. The cable is a coxial cable. 2nd. I have searched high and low to try and find a replacement and am lead to believe they are now a discontinued item. Would anyone have one they would like to sell to me please. The Fishfinder worked well until the cable had been cut, so if I can resurrect it, over replacing, I will. Thanks in advance everyone Cheers Rod Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Hi Raiders, I have a lowrance x55 and need to replace my transducer. I've spoken with a couple of Lowrance distributors and they tell me the transducer is obsolete and also that they cannot be retro-fitted with another model. Would anyone happen to have a transducer to suit that they would like to sell please? Cheers Rod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Hi, I was wanting to try the Alden Drill-Outs, just to see if they were any good. Tried one today and their useless. I did speak to the guy you mentioned. He's got a bit on at the moment, so it'll be another couple of weeks before he can look at it. I'll let you know how he goes.. Cheers Rod.
  21. Hi mate, Unfortunately not yet. I've ordered some "Alden Drill-outs", which I'm led to believe work well on removing broken bolts. So, as soon as they arrive, I'll be giving them a go. I'll keep you posted. Cheers Rod
  22. Hi Blood Knot, Thanks for the "thumbs up". Your right though... I should have put a few more photo's up, that would have made it a little clearer. It's setup in the garage off my bench and into Rod Holders, which is how it mounts at the rear of the boat. I've had water in it for a full day now and the level hasn't dropped, so far, so good. It's still got a couple of holes to drill, but its almost there. More photo's to follow. Cheers Rod.
  23. Hi Raiders, Been thinking about doing this little project for a while now and finally decided to have a go over the weekend. I've used my 45ltr Esky and the components off my bait board. The bait board support tubes have been placed through the esky to act as support while on the boat. The rear tube has been drilled through the existing esky wheel holes and sika flexed into place. The same 25mm tube will act as the inlet/supply pipe from the pump (yet to be installed)and also the drainage point when disconnected.. I have drilled several holes in the pipe and it tested with a really good, consistent flow. The front tube, pentrating the esky serves no other purpose than support. I am still yet to fit the overflow at the top rear of the esky. All-in-all, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I will add another post once I have it all plumbed in and in action. Cheers RodB.
  24. Great effort on the website...!!! I've been looking for an opportunity to have a go at some big game fishing and after watching your port stephens promo, I'm even more keen now to have a go. Good work boys and I'll be making a booking soon. Rod.
  25. Thanks Gazza, This is why fishraider is a great site. Cheers Rod.
