  1. Thanks to all for your replies. I think I'll be giving up on the pump that was supplied with the kit and opting for an externally mounted pump on the transom. Cheers again.
  2. Hi Raiders, I've just set up and plumbed in my new bait tank. The only thing left to do is plumb in the pump. My question to all is; With the kit I bought came a through hull pump. Should I use this setup or should I avoid going through the transom and use a transom mounted pump and pickup please? All your thoughts are appreciated. Cheers Rod.
  3. Hi Raiders, Went out for an early fish Sunday morning in and around the bay for little results. My question to all though is this; While doing a little trawling of live baits just outside the heads on the Southern side, I noticed a heap of boats in a circle not more than 1 klm out. Can anyone please tell me what this spot is and what they might have been chasing please? I didn't bother venturing out there without knowing what to fish for and how to fish for them. It was busy though. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Rod
  4. Hi, Try using acetone and then vinyl restorer. But, be careful not to get the acetone in places you don't want it on. It will work though. Good luck.
  5. Hi Raiders, You can count me in for this also please. I too am only new to Hairtail fishing, but looking forward to it anyway. It'll also be good to put a face to some of these names I see on here regularly.
  6. Hi Shadz, Your right, the Bay was very ordinary today. We cleaned up on catching livies this morning, thinking that was going to be a good start to a good day. All we did was managed to let the livies swim around off a hook for nothing. We jagged a few undersize tailor, some reds and a couple of rat kings. We moved around a lot and left no stone unturned for very little result. Oh well, there's always next time and I was out on the boat. It could have been worse.!
  7. Thanks to all for your comments. This Kingy certainly made for a challenge. The way the rod was setup was certainly not to catch a kingfish. It was nothing more than 10lb mono, no trace and straight to a small long shank hook with a small ball sinker to hook and a prawn attached. Who would have guessed? It's prompted me to change my train of thought on how to fish for kings.
  8. Hi Raiders, This post is a little late, but as per usual, work gets in the way of not only fishing but also my posts. I took the young fella for a fish on Saturday to a very windy Botany Bay. After leaving the ramp at Kyeemagh and seeing a number of boats fishing inside the mouth if the Cooks, my immediate thought was, "this doesn't look good", but persisted anyway. We found ourselves to be the only boat out there at this stage, but pushed on fishing. An hour had passed and nothing but a few throw backs (mixed). Then my son yells , dad I've got one...!!! At first I didn't think much of it and let him go, then he's reel starts to scream and his little face was turning red from the struggle. I let him go and gently kept the rod tip up for him. After about 5 minutes of that, he gave up and pleaded with me take over. For another ten minutes I fought this fish wondering what the hell it was. Till finally it surfaced (a Kingy). As soon as looked at us, off it went again. But this time it got tired and back to the boat it came. Finally got this fish netted and in the boat. My sons first Kingy and a record for the new boat. It'll be a tough one to beat. It went 72cm and 4.7kg. A very nice fish indeed and very happy 8 year old boy and not mention, one very proud dad.
  9. Hi Austral, Thanks for the reply. I did manage to get a piece out yesterday without any damage. So fingers crossed, the rest comes out the same.
  10. Hi Gazza, Thanks for the reply. I'm not overly concerned about the front screen as it's held in differently from the rest. My problem is the cabin and the way they're held in. I have attached an image of the product I am considering using based on the info people have for me here. Nice job by the way on yours. I have to say, I am looking forward to clear vision again. Thanks again.
  11. Hi there everyone, I am about to start to replace the Perspex on my boat. Wind Screen, Side Screens & Cabin. My question to all is this; The boat currently has Aluminium Extrusions holding all the Perspex into place. These are siliconed and riveted. It appears as though over it's 15 odd years and past owners, they have been urethaned in and I'm almost certain the aluminium will end up damaging upon removal. I have no concerns with the front screens, they're different extrusions. What are your thoughts on using after market rubber mouldings in place of the aluminium and does anyone have any personal experiences with using rubber moulds over the aluminium? I do currently have some leaking issues through the existing, which I know could be fixed with silicone, but I need to replace the Perspex, it's more than seen it's day. Thanks in advance and hope to meet some Raiders at the Hairtail Social. (With no leaks)

    Text Alert?

I think this is a great idea. I also spend a lot of time working (being teased) in waterfront properties and not being able to get out there. I'd definitely be up for posting and hoping that others could enjoy what I can't.
  13. 1st Grand Final win since 1971, here we go...!!!

    Fuel Bladder

Thank you to both replies. I've been doing a little more online research and I guess the consensus is against the bladders. Custom tank, here I come...!!! Thanks again.

    Fuel Bladder

Hi Raiders, Could anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of using a fuel bladder under my floor as opposed to a S/S or Aluminium tank please? I have ample space under my floor to accommodate up to 120ltrs of fuel, but my problem is trying to justify the cost of a custom tank when a bladder is more than half the cost and can be purchased off the shelf. Thanks in advance. Rod.

    My new boat

Thank you and yes, the covers are definitely on top of the list. Thanks again Huey.

    My new boat

Once again, thanks Huey. I've had 2 prices at this stage, which were around $3500. I thought they were a bit steep. But, I haven't had to replace this before. So I was a bit surprised. What's your recommendation on the prop please? Thanks.

    My new boat

Thanks so much for the reply Huey. Much appreciated and I'll definitely be checking the plugs. Funny you mentioned the oil, I had already planned to change it this weekend. So now I know exactly what to get. I'm also looking for recommendations for someone to do a full set of camping covers for it as well. I've had a couple of quotes, which were way out there. If anyone knows or could make a recommendation for someone around the Camden area, it'd also be appreciated. Once again, thanks Huey.

    My new boat

Hi Raiders, I've just upgraded my boat and hoping you guys might know how it is likely to perform outside for a days fishing please. It is a 19ft Sea Line with 1998 90hp Johnson Ocean Runner on the back, which I have to say goes extremely well. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Hi mate, You should be able to install a VSR direct to you existing setup. You would need to re-wire though to accommodate the VSR. If you pm me I am happy to send you the link to where it can be purchased for $120.00 Thanks.
  21. Hi Raiders, I'm seriously considering buying this boat and am hoping you guys might be able to shed some light onto it for me. It is as the title describes and is sitting on a dual axle trailer, which seems to be pretty good. My plan would be to use the boat outside, so would really like to know what it is like in the rough stuff or more to the point, when the weather decides to turn bad. The buy price is $6900.00 Also could anyone offer or suggest anyone they may know who could do a thorough inspection on it for me in Geelong VIC. All things going to plan with an inspection and some feedback from fellow raiders, I'll be making the journey to Victoria next week. Thanks in advance and I look forward to some replies. Cheers Rod.
  22. Sorry about the miss-spell there. Paikea...!!!
  23. Hi Pakea, The VSR (Voltage Sensitive Relay), basically gives me crank battery only for startup, then while the motor is running will only charge the crank battery 1st until it has sufficient charge to adequately crank again before it automatically switches to charge battery B (auxiliary). If required, you can still switch batteries to "both" for startup. It also has a series of led's to indicate its status. All tolled, including switch and VSR, was about $400 and worth every cent.
  24. Hi again Testlab and thanks. I have a Bluesea VSR System. I have attached a couple of photos of the setup I have. I hope this helps you with my enquiry. Cheers again.
  25. Thanks for that Info. One question on that though, you mention the vsr, does that mean I have to turn switch on for while charging or leave it off? Thanks again.
