  1. Thanks, I've taken a few photos and started to size things up. It all looks achievable. I think I might start to tackle it this weekend. I can take an engine out of a car, so shorly this can't beat me. Thanks all
  2. Hi Gazza, Thanks for the reply, that has given me some hope. I was thinking in order to remove the power head, there would have been electronics, pipes and hoses to be concerned about. In doing so, would there be any obscure gaskets etc I will need to put it back together, other than the head & exhaust gasket? Also, plan on changing the thermostat while I'm there. Thanks again for everyone's advice. With every nice day we have, it makes me keener to get this fixed and get out there. Cheers Rod.
  3. Hi Rod, Thanks for the reply. I will definitely give this guy a call. I have been led to believe, (by several mechanics) that in order to get to the bottom head cover bolt, which is covered by the lower cowl, the power head has to come off. I have an average price for this now as being around $1,500.00 to remove the power head, drill out and repair the damaged bolts and put it all back together. Sounds a bit rich to me, but the powerhead is out of my realm of ability. I will give this guy a buzz and see how he ends up for me. Thanks again Rod Rod.
  4. Hi Raiders, I just recently purchased a 15ft Nautiglass 149 with a 93 Suzuki DT85 and I love it... I knew the boat had a couple of things to sort, (namely), the outboard! The previous owner had attempted to change the exhaust gaskets and while he was there, thought he'd have a crack at the Head Gasket as well. Whilst doing this he broke several bolts in the process. I'm fairly handy when it comes to tools and have the ability to fix the problem. BUT, (there's always a "but"), the problem i've come across is how to remove the bottom cowl/plate to access the very bottom bolt on the head gasket cover? I plan on changing the impeller, (again, something I haven't done before, but i'll manage), so i guess I'm after whatever advice you guys might have on this please... Thanks in advance and tight lines. Rod.
  5. Hi guys, I've been fishing the hacking (land based) a lot over winter and found it to be really tough to catch anything worth taking home. I've given it a break over the last few weeks and until now, this is the first time in a while that I've seen a new post come up about the hacking. Given there's not much happening on Fish Raider about the hacking, that says a lot for the area. Just bought myself a boat to get out there. A few things to do to it, but then hope to meet some raiders out there and maybe even pick their brains a little. Until then, tight lines and keep up the good work with the posts. Rod.
  6. Hi and if at all possible, could you count me in for that too please??? I'm in the Sutherland Shire. Thanks. Rod.
  7. Thanks for the replies, i have been looking at the Shimano Bait Runners. Any particular tackle set-ups i should be considering for kings etc? Thanks again Rodb
  8. Hi Raiders, I've been on this site for a little while now and have to say, I'm addicted to it as much as I am my fishing...!!! Just bought a little boat, to get myself away from the land based fishing. I pick it up next weekend. It's a Nautiglass 15ft with a 85 Suzuki on it. My question to all is this, I want to take the boat out as far as I can (without getting into trouble of course), with the intention of trying get onto decent fish. Can anyone please offer some advice on decent rod combos and preferred tackle for deeper water fishing? Thanks in advance for any input Rodb
  9. Thanks heaps for that Gary. I've heard of yield, but I'll search for it. It'll be another couple of weeks before I get back to it with work commitments, but if I can't fInd it, i'll definitely be in touch. Thanks again Rod
  10. Hi there Raiders, I'm looking for a little assistance/ideas on what to do with my 85hp Suzuki. I'm in the process of changing the head gasket and have snapped 4 bolts off in the block while trying to remove them. I know i will have to "easy-out" them, but is there anything i can do with the remaining bolts to try and elliminate the chance of breaking the remaining bolts please? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated...!!! Thanks heaps and i look forward to your responses and keep up the great work with this site... Cheers Rodb
  11. Hey there fellas...!!! This is why fish raider is a good site. I've only just recently gotten myself serious about fishing and loving it. Although the success is yet to come. But years ago, I used to do a lot of black fishing in Geroa and loved it. Just a quick question, is there any decent weed around the shire at the moment please???? I'm looking around and not coming across it and I'm keen to get back into the black fishing. Any help would be appreciated Thanks. Rodb
  12. Hi Raiders, I finally gave this area a go this arvo/tonight, for not even a nibble. We were on squid, pilchard and worms. We also tried every conceivable rig we could think of. Might try the run in next time...!!! Keep up the reports Thanks
  13. Hi ScottyB. I had a go Thursday night at Wally's for the same result, not even a nibble. I kept telling myself the tide would start working for me, but it didn't...!!! It's been really quite.
  14. Thanks heaps for the replies guys, much appreciated. I'll be giving it a go hopefully Monday.
  15. Hi Raiders Been land based fishing the Hacking a lot lately with very little success. Been hearing a little about Blad Face Point. Is there any Raiders out there that fish this area and could let me know what's out there please and what works best and what tides work for the area. I went and had a look at the spot yesterday, it's a beautiful part of the world to fish even if your not catching anything. But still, it would be nice to struggle my way back up the hill with a feed. Thanks Raiders.
  16. Hi Kingfisher, Rod here. I've read this post too late, but next time your keen for a blackie fish, let me know please mate. I've only recently got back into fishing and I've got the bug bad...!!! I used to do a lot of blackie fishing at Geroa when I had a van down there and I love it. Been thinking a bit lately about giving it a go locally. I live in Caringbah South, so im local to the Hacking and very keen. Hopefully catch up with you soon. Cheers. Rod.
  17. Thanks a lot Scott for the info, it's much appreciated. As the saying goes, you gotta be in it to win it...!!! So I guess I'll keep trying. Might see you down there one day mate, I fish there fairly frequently these days.
  18. Thanks for the replies guys and to you, ScottyB. I was there on Saturday night with 2 others, we all had different rigs and different baits and still couldn't get a look in. The frustration, that being said, I still enjoy getting out for a fish. But I am very eager to get those rods bending with something bigger. What sort of bait and setup were you using ScottyB for the bonito? Thanks guys Rodb
  19. Hi all Raiders, I've been fishing Lilli Pilli Baths now for some time and dont seem to manage anything at all, other than the little reds that do nothing but take bait. Is there anyone out there who fishes the hacking (land based), that could give me some tips please??? Baits, rigs and maybe some locations. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work with this site.
  20. Hi guys, I haven't been fortunate enough to get into my first jew as yet, but trying. Any suggestions on bait and land based spots around the hacking please??? I'm also thinking about having another crack tonight...!!!
  21. Hi Johno, Only fairly new to this site and love it...!!! Thanks for the reports. I have been land based in the Hacking for a long time and only ever manage to do okay...!!! I'm looking for a boat now, on a tight budget, but looking forward to getting out there. Love the land based reports Raiders, but keep the boating ones coming please....!!! Any fish is a good fish.
  22. Hi all, I went for a land based fish yesterday arvo with a mate at Lilli Pilli Baths. Got there about 5ish, cold by 7ish and frozen by 9ish. Not a bite...!!! Ordinarily, i can always manage something down there and you would most certainly see fish in the water around the wharf. There was nothing out there at all, not even one bite between us. Where are they??? I hope there is some other people getting fish (land based out of the Hacking)....

    Any ideas

Hi mate, Just got home from that fish. No joy tonight on the beach...!!! Went just north of Wanda. There were a stack of people fishing. If you left your spot and walked back to your gear, you almost lost your spot. Got 2 tailor. 1 @ 42 long and the other @ 46. My mate got a nice flatty. Left there about 10ish, went over to Darook Park. Did a lot better their, we got a few nice bream and some flatty's. It was a good night though.
