Both eyes were gone and lost one due to its tentacle hanging onto the jig was eaten. Resulting watching my precious squid ending up in a feeding frenzing for the LJ.

  13. Me & my mate launched off at Wonga Rd ramp into what certainly feels like a typical Summer weekend. It was also a nice surprise to bump into a good old friend xpat from kfdu. The plan for today was to catch a few squids then hopefully find some kings to play with. We headed off to a spot that we caught huge calamari last week but it was dead today. No worries we made my way into another spot and slowly working along the shoreline. It was hardwork today but finally managed my first squid. Then 2nd cast bang..... 3rd cast bang. After all the excitement the spot went quiet and it wasn't till 15mins I got my fourth squid. So off we went to another spot then 1st cast and 2nd cast got myself some nice squids. So 6 squids in total and 4 of them are pretty decent sized. I lost 2 hookups but still pretty happy with the result. After we got the live bait/ dinner sorted out, we made my way to the usual kingy spot in a hope they would turn up. I sounded the area and saw school of baby snappers and occasionally a few big marks lurking in the mid column. I dropped over squid strips a few times and got demolish by those pesky small fish. In the next 30 minutes I trolled around the area with live squids for nothing. Only till later I felt some nimble and knew the baby snappers were biting off its tentacles so I pulled my precious squid out. For the rest of the day we spent squidding but got nothing apart from a small cuttlefish. Anyhow it was an enjoyable day on the water with the yak boys and a good catchup with xpat.
  14. Nice report. Hopefully the kings will stay for a couple more weeks and come out to play with me
  15. Good work bro!!! Very nice hoodies ya got there!!!
  16. After last weekend I was determined to get myself some of these bigger Kings that have been patrolling inside the Harbour. I got there at Clontaf early sunrise and already saw tons of boats in the water. I knew it wasn't a good sign and it turned out to be true. Spent a hour trying to get squids but no luck so move on collecting yakkas. After that I went over to a few usual markers and can see plently of kings right underneath me. Dropped over the smallest yakka and it got nailed instantly. Turned out to be the smallest rat I have ever caught but I guess at least it is a sign that squids aren't needed today. How wrong I am!!! For the next few hours I spent changing different way to present the yakkas but still no response. Ok now I'm getting desperate for squids and blaming myself for eating some of the calamari I got a week ago. Lesson learned I should have saved them for the fussy Kings!!! Oh well...Better luck next time!!! Kings showing on various markers At least I had fun sailing around when the wind picked up. Saw the bridge opening so went under it along with other big yachts (Got a few confused look from them )
  17. Absolutly Love it. I used to have the older one but sold it with the previous yak. Just got this from BCF when they are doing special as I found it is very good at marking the kings.
  18. Yeah that's part of the fun of kayak fishing.
  19. Only 62cm as I usually lose the battle with the bigger ones. Maybe time to upgrade some heavier gear and yeah you should come out more with the yak boys!!!!
  20. Chuck it back as I only keep squids for bait.
  21. About 5 mins and I think the frozen squid will last quite a while providing it hasn't been in contact with freshwater.
  22. I caught it right at the middle white buoys at Cobblers beach. The rig I used was just a simple live baiting rig with a heavy sinker due to the strong wind.
  23. Given today's wind forecast, I was juggling between going for a fish or giving it a miss. I chose to brave it as today was my only day off. I started the day with sourcing live bait but failed miserably. Squids weren't at my favourite spot and there wasn't any yakkas at Balmoral island. I had basically given up and was going to end the day early, so I decided to go and check out a few markers before I head home. By the time I got to the second marker things start to get very very interesting. I could see big predators lurking in mid columns on my sounder and was praying that my leftover squid strips can tempt them. It wasn't long till I heard the famous zzzzzz sound from my reel and I was on. Fought with it for a few minutes and I was determined not to lose this kingie like last Friday. Finally landed it and saw 2 of his mates following him as well. I knew there were more and bigger kings down there so dropped over another squid strip over. Rod buckled like crazy and I was struggling to get it out of the rod holder. I could definitely feel this time I am onto his bigger brother. Line peeling off so fast as if there was no drag on my reel. It pulled my kayak around and it decided to wrap my line around the marker's rope. I tried to follow it and untangled line but no chance. DAMN!!! Lost another King in this week. Finally score today is 2 kings hooked and 1 landed. P.S. The water was very warm inside the harbour, dipped my finger into it and can feel the 'heat'.
  24. Big congrats especially this is done by land based!!!
