  1. Sounds like a perfect weekend...! I have similar memories of fishing with my father down at Tuross. Btw,where abouts is Laurieton?
  2. I haven't been out the last couple of days but had a good morning on the harbour last Wed 7/1. Launched at Rose Bay at 7am, with only a few scraps of bait from the freezer and not sure where to go for the high tide mid morning. After motoring 50m from the ramp some birds taking an interest in some surface splashes told me to throw a small metal out... a couple of nice tailor the result! Fresh tailor = Jewish bait to me,so I headed up to the bay between Blues Pt and Balls Hd and fished the tide change anchored around the edge of a drop off. A bit of patience resulted in two schoolies just on 60cm,both returned in good health. Called it a day around noon and headed back to the ramp only to find a bunch of bonito busting up bait fish amongst the moored boats. Had a blade on my light spin rod so through that and scored one second cast! What an entertaining day!! I hope you get your new tinnie out some more and get some fish! So far it's been a good season, the trick is to get out there and find them! Tight lines and fishy new year for all 'raiders!
  3. Landing THAT on 20/30lb gear...!?! LEGEND!!!
  4. Best fishing report I've ever read!! Short, good info, and the pic' to prove it!! Cheers!
  5. Yeh, thought Sgt baker. Considered a garbage fish but some say good bait for snapper, haven't tried it so not sure! As for a sounder, I have an elite 4 dsi combo with a navionics card, but I advise you to go for the "5" as it comes with the card and is thus better value. The value of the combo is that when you find a hot spot you can save it for the future. I run a 3.55 quintrex and surprise lots of people with my inshore/offshore adventures!! Tight lines!
  6. Well done mate, welcome to the "true tinny" club! It's not the size that counts, it's how you use it!! BTW, gurnard without wings is probably a Sgt Baker. Same body shape but without the brightly coloured oversize pectoral fins. Good report, cheers.
  7. We caught a couple of nice fat Bonnies last Thursday (sounder was thick with them) trolling along South Head of Sydney Harbour. Then as as we circled around the artificial reef to anchor up, a humpback popped up no more than 20metres ahead of us. A bit of a worry when you're in a 12 foot tinnie!! Nothing further to report other than some over zealous Parks & Wildlife officers and a bunch of small leatheries, neither of which I wanted to take home!!!
  8. Wow! Unfortunate about the Sunday wash-out,but you guys got the right result! Well done, and that big red looks beautiful to me!!
  9. Well done! The bay has been frustrating lately (for me anyway!),glad to see a result! That'll get us all fired up! Cheers.
  10. I was out on BB on Tuesday morning and had a similiar poke around. Saw a load of bait fish on the sounder at Mol Pt so anchored up,about 2 hours before the low tide. Landed a couple of pike, which I used for bait in case any Jew were around, but nothing came of it! Then I thought my luck had changed, spying a shed load of fish cruising along: about 20 metres away. Threw an sp at them,no takers. I could feel the jig hitting their bodies as I pulled it thru the school, but still no hits. Finally one followed the sp to the boat so I could get a look,YTK! Naturally I tried everything, popper, metal slug, even a squid head, but no interest! Aaaaaarrrrggghhh!
  11. hey Marlin Rep, was that you in the blue Polycraft? I was trolling a couple of lures along Nth Hd Tuesday morn (12' Quinnie) up to BFP. Nothin' happenning. Drifted for a while along the front, two pinkies, small red rock cod, wrasse, one decent mowie (42cm) and a couple of big fat leatheries... Moved in around Sow & Pigs approaching high tide, but nothing further to report. Great day on the water anyway!! Tight Lines guys!
  12. Have a look at my profile, it should show my contact details.
  13. Nice piece of work! Sounds like you're enjoying the yak. Interesting with the Estuary Cod. I caught one down at Tuross a couple of years ago, only a little one so I threw him back. I think they are protected, or is it only the Black Cod? Or are they the same fish? Can anyone confirm? I know Rock Cod and Bar Cod are good on the chew (and legal!). Hope you have better luck with the Jewies than I've had lately!!
  14. Well done Formosan! I hit the Harbour Thursday morn' but only managed a few Tailor inside and a couple of greedy Sergeant Bakers off the Sth Head bommie... But seeing your catch makes me even more determined...! Tight Lines!!
  15. Yeh, we sell a couple of different types to suit infants, the main difference being a crotch strap so you can grab 'em by the collar and they don't fall out! They start around the $50 mark. They are no longer referred to as Type 1, 2 or 3. The categories are now "150" for adult inflatable type, "100" for foam off-shore (adult or kids), and "50" for foam inshore (adult or kids). Always get 100 type for young kids, as they have a head support collar. 50 series are less bulky and suitable for watersports (inshore). We even have them for the family pets that can't swim!! I can't tell you where I work on the forum, otherwise I'd have to kill you... or me.. or something!! PM me and leave an e-mail address so I can let you know... we have various outlets around Sydney.
  16. I reckon Bare Island/La Per by the looks of the rocks... Nice work dude, wherever it was!!
  17. While we're on the subject, can anyone suggest any good areas to try for muddies? I've tried a few spots in MH lately (up around the mangroves at Roseville) with no result. Using a folding box net as described above, with an xl mullet frame splashed with tuna oil for bait. Any other suggestions?
  18. Stonker Flatties!!! Good start to the account! Now you have to beat that one... Tight Lines.
  19. I'll know next time!! Cheers, motohead.
  20. Don't know about Banjo's but after seeing your photo I want to know if Gurnards are good eating or not? I caught a decent sized one in Middle Harbour last week and threw him back, not knowing any different. Looks like a Flathead on psychedelic drugs!! Couldn't be too bad!! Anyone had them on a plate?

    1st Post!

Welcome aboard! Plenty of choices now!!
  22. Tried that (in a couple of spots), but no takers! Pillies took both of the Blue Spots (ganged hooks, running snapper sinker), I had a strip of squid on another rod (paternoster style) and a also cast a big SP while I drifted... Can't say I wasn't trying!!!
  23. Bad luck on the blowouts mate! Better to have fished and lost than never to have fished at all!! I had my Quantum 80 Baitfeeder pop it's drag last week, I'll let Jarvis Walker sort that one out! Next time......
  24. G'day Raiders, Put in a long day on the Bay, but it was worth it! Started out about 6am and headed out the front to Long Bay for a while, hoping for a Snapper or two, but not much happening. Trolled some lures back arond the heads, no birds and very little showing on the sounder. High tide at 10ish so I tried a few spots inside the bay, the drums, sticks, then Moll. Pt. Noticed a touch on one of the lines, after pulling the line in to check the bait I noticed the pillie had been chewed around the back of the head so I threw a squid jig in and came up trumps, three medium sized green eyes. Then pulled in a couple of undersize Flatties, so things were improving! Once the tide started to run out I tried a few drifts near the south side of the heads, but to no avail. About 1pm I thought I'd have one more try, so moved over to Henry Hd. Northerly was getting stronger so by starting on the north side I was able to drift across the mouth (aided by a sea anchor to slow the drift). Glad I persisted, 'cause I immediately hooked up a 50cm Flattie. Went back to HH and started again, bingo!, another 50cm job! Tried a few more times, but couldn't find any more! Got a feed after all! So all in all a good day, the water temp hit 20C on the run out, so things are looking up! Cheers, motohead.
