for those interested-it has been announced formally yesterday---------the byron marine park details can be found here-------www.mpa.nsw.gov.au---------it comes into effect in april 2006------ what you see here is what you can expect for other planned parks in nsw--------a lot of your existing fishing locations will be locked out----------forever-------simple as that- -there have been some very minor changes to the original park plan and those changes have been made through a consultation process with the relavent authorities----- Overall the majority of local fishos in this region are most unhappy about some of the non sensical lock out spots--------rockworm(lennox head)

-marine parks--------------I can only talk about experiences that Ive been involved in over the last 14 months or so at Lennox head-----the pollies who have the say-simply dont take notice of what the local community want--------also there is no doubt that the pollies are crap scared of the greens-----------4000 written objections vs 1000 for the byron marine park in the byron shire--the minister needs hanging------the last nsw premier quoterd on national tv---------i dont care about fishing and dont play golf-that says it all-----------the bottom line is simple----rec fishos want to save fish stocks for the future-------and most are supportive in ways to do that---but what i do know are 2 really dumbo things that are only examples of many in this byron park that should have been reviewed by those interllectuals in power in the implementation of this park--------- 1-a sanctuary no fish zone has been forwarded at lennox in the southern corner of 7 mile beach and as far as us locals --set in cement by ther powers to be-----------what a crock of-in this so called sanctuary area-meant to preserve who knows what-there are 4 drains that flow into it--------in other words-all the crap run off from the roads and farms flow into it-a great chemical concoction----geezes-common sense says-this aint the area for a sanctuary zone-------- 2---a bit controversial but true-the pro fishos can still net the crap out of the beach areas at lennox-in the marine park----again-bloody common sence says-this aint the way to go---------- my point--who ever is involved in these marine park proposals and final determinations----you need to listen to the local people -----take notice of what fishing groups put forward---------work together in going forward-not just trying to score political points for the day----------

well boys-plenty of fish up this way-----over the last week ive snagged from 5 to 15 fish each chuck-------bream are up to 1kg-golden trevally are a pain in the ass----------every second chuk i snag one up to 2kgs-tailor up to 3kgs are filling the fridge----------there are bugger all jew around after the big flood we had recently-----------im sure ite got nothing to do with the 5000kg catch at woodburn over 2 nights 3 days before the floods!!!!!!!--------outside things are interesting-knobby reds to 5kgs are the go-- just have to put this bit in --last friday a mate wanted me to got outside with him-i couldnt owing to a booked docs appointment at 9-00am---------a mate and i called this guy up on the mobile at 11-00 to see how he was going-bugger all-only 1 red about 1kg--i thought-great-ive missed nothing---------about 10 mins after we called this guy he rings back in panic mode-what "the ****" is up------we said--he had a great white harrassing him---geezes---it chomped the motor-------circled the boat for half an hour---frightened the crap out of him-------to prove the incident-he took pics-it was published in the area local rag-his boat is a 5.5mtr stacer-------the shark was almost as long as the boat------4 to 4.5 mtrs--------the guys this happened to's name is tony-------------hes still shaking in his boots!!!!!!!--truly-i'm glad i missed all"the fun"------------catch ya-rockworm

just for info-I got a reply to my letter from Don Page-the local MP at Ballina-----its very generally worded as you would expect-but at least I got a reply------part quote"I have read your comments in regards to the proposed marine park and in particular the generally responsible approach taken by amateur fishers-I will certainlykeep your comments in mind during future discussions on the issue"- in the meantime-------front page local news plus first topic on tonites local TV---pros buying back into the industry after getting a payout for their license via un used licenses--------I do not blame the pros-its all the Governments fault for not doing their job properly-in the real world-heads would roll--- --Gregg

the slaughter took place at Woodburn-----I know 2 locals who along with about 10 Woodburn guys who fished in the slaughter area on Sat nite-----not 1 jew was caught----my Lennox mates snagged 1 piddly little bream for 4 hours effort----------------I cant work out why they had such a crap session!!!!!!!!!!--------I sent off a 2 page scathing letter to the local minister last friday----I'll be interested to see if I even get a reply--------- --rockworm----

-just a fact of life------on thursday night-----------3500kgs and then on friday night------1500kgs of Jewfish were netted by the pros in the Richmond river------ ------I'm just toooooo angry to say anything more!!!!!!!!--------rockworm

The next stage of marine parks are about to be implemented in N.S.W.(a local TV report on sunday night-----as I understand it-from Evans Head to Foster)the problem I have with this is that the parks are suppossed to be based on the "success" of the marine park that covers Byroin Bay to Ballina-what a crock of -----there are 9800 written formal complaints to the proposed zoning and condition issues to be addressed in regards the Byron park-it will be some 14 months before the relavent politicians come back with a review(for about the 3rd time) on the Byron park------I would expect further reviews to take place after this fourth review-----------my point is-how can anyone base decisions on the success of something before it is even in place???????-do these people think we are all jerks-------- My point to you all is to be ready-there is no doubt in my mind that this marine park extension will just keep growing further south to the degree of insanity------ In my experince with fishos-some 50 years-is that today we all want to protect the environment to sustain its future--------but lets do it in a professional and well researched way-not the damm add hock way its being implemented-------so to you all-when you have a chance to say your bit with these issues-please do-----lets get it right--cause bums in nice offices do not understand the real issues that face us in the real world-------there are so many stupid stuff ups in the proposed Byron park it would fill 2 pages--------just one simple one that all N.S. W.taxpayers are coping--------in the Byron marine proposed park you get officers in a nice twin hull cat boat who can check out your licence-check your live bait tank-check your boat licence-check boat rego papers-check baited lines-----check fish boxes for undersize fish(even though the marine park has not been sorted out yet)-------and when you get back to the boat ramp-guess what-local fisheries officers do the same things-------seems to me a waste of money in the damm system------a bit like 2 police officers pulling you over within 100 mtrs----------geezes-enough said------and thats only 1 simple example of many that needs to be corrected------letys get it right----Rockworm---

Lennox Beach is full of bloody "cornflake "weed and kelp---------owing to the big northerly push over the last few weeks-------------so no fishing off the beaches/rocks anywhere around here for miles so to speak-------so owing to boredom went out with a local mate in his boat today-snagged a dozen chopper tailor for live bait on first light then off out to a place called-"the pinnacle"-we snagged 3 spanish macks-best went 13.2 kgs----------we lost 6 others -busted up-we were using 60lb wire!!!!---also snagged a noah-whaler- as long as the boat----- -----another 4 boats today snagged spanish macks as well---------the word is out around town----------all the boys will be out tomorrow to try their luck-------------------in the meantime-----------I'm into a nice bottle of white tonite-with a bit of "spanish"to keep it down-----------

Lennox at times is a fishing "heaven"-today at my local 'fishing comp'-Lennox point hotel fishing club" this week end-------bream to 1kg-trevally to 1 kilo-whiting to 350gms-flathead to 2kgs-jew to 6kgs and golden trevally to 3.5kgs were weighed in-all fish weighed in here in all comps-from evans head to byron-are "gilled and gutted" weights-----another thing-thats interesting-------the lengths of weigh in fish-bream-whiting-tailor-are all more than the legal limits as set-----and the rule applies-try to weigh in a "non long enough fish"-you get banned forever from the club-theres only one bloke i know whos come to Lennox for a stay and gone home without catching a decent fish-----i think he a mate of jimbos!!!!!!!----------I'm in trouble now!!!!!!!

just an update between the pissing torrents from the gods weve had for the last 2 weeks-heaps of bream around-my best just over 1.3kg(gilled and gutted) this week---the bream are all in the bigger catagory which is unusual for this time of year as these fish are normally here in winter-you can catch a bucket full of whiting in the river if you want to-------a few good fish have come in when having 'a spin" on the local reef at low tide--------Gts to 4kgs--kings to 5kgs and the odd "chopper" tailor with the best yesterday weighed in at 4.2kgs(gilled and gutted)------no ones been able to have a real serious crack at jew on the beach owing to the conditions -a few flatties have turned up this week with 6 caught that I know of today--just a bit to add thats happened on tuesday------ on monday a guy rocked down to where i was fishing and tried to pick my brain as to what was going on-after an hour or so he seemed a decent guy-so i gave him"the oil"as to how to fish the spot i was at----I also showed him where my catch(8 bream) was "hidden"to prove that what i was showing and telling him was true----he had just moved up from sydney to live at lennox and wanted to learn how to fish a bit------the next day he rocked down to the spot at the exact time i did-at least he listened to the bit i told him(1 hour before the high is the go)---he had bought a K-mart rod and reel-spooled with 25lb line------plus he had bought some hooks sinkers and "whitebait"--------I got into the bream straight away(I fish lite for em-4kg line)----on his second chuk he had a huge bend in his rod-I said-got a snag ay???-----he said no-its moving-------I said must be a lump of kelp------he said maybe-----well after about 10 minutes of him stuffing around I'd thought I'd help him a bit-------after me grabbing his rod to "bust him off a rock"i felt movement-then i unlocked his drag that was locked tight-------after about 5 mins i gave the rod back to him-with lots of instructions on how to play the fish-basically-he had all day-the fish didnt----------he did well-I had no idea what it was but put my $$ on a ray of some sort-------to cut another 15 mins of story short----one very novice fisho with very average gear went home with one crocadile dusky lizard--------it hit the scales at 6.2kg-(gilled and gutted)---the guys name is Barry-and he was still smiling around town today----He rekons Lennox is a top joint-------wonder why???????-------

I got the same info from Bob Smith from The Fishing Party this morning, who has been up there for all the rallies! I was holding of posting what you did Greg, just to confirm it all. A lot of people perhaps don't realise , but this is a HUGE win for Rec Fishing. It means that the government CAN NOT set a precedent and use that to railroad other Marine Parks up and down the coast! For all those that did get involved, give yourselves a pat on the back! And for the sceptics ....YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE BY VOICING YOUR OPINION! Apparently during Sunday's rally, the submitted objections sat in a pile TWO METRES high! Hi boys-------not sure wether I've got enough ink to reply in full to this -so I'll keep it short---- The majority of rec fishos up here are for managed conservation of fish environments-in other words-they accept marine parks as a principle------- There are a couple of issues that need to be looked at TOGETHER in a proper plan to ensure survival of fish stocks for the future vs the "take this or leave it attitude "that appears to be the case at the moment with relavent government 1-Pro fisherman ---they need to make a living-----but they are destroying huge areas of the fishing environment-both in the richmond river and on beaches-buy back their licenses at MARKET PRICE not the 20c the government is offering now--surely there is enough income from fishing licenses to do this--I have spoken to some of the pros who work the Lennox area------they will take a fair offer and get a job doing other things vs busting their balls for $30000 a year. By doing this huge increases in fish stocks would come back in a couple of years- 2-Limit where pro fishermen can fish-----basically they have open slather at any school of fish in the region---some schools need to be able to "get away"- 3-Marine Zones-these zones are being driven by the Greens---simple as that-the go up here is that marine zones are planned for all down the coast--based on the "so called'success of the Byron Park--I was at a rally-speakers from--Labour-Liberal--Country party--a State Senator--the Mayor--were there giving a speech on the park subject---not a GREEN IN SIGHT--------all speakers critised the Green army on this marine park .Their view was that the Greens will not move to take into account localised issues 4-MarinePark studies------their is a total lack of evidence to prove or disprove their viability from a scientific point of view--in most cases its other things that effect the environment that certainly not even been considered in the Byron Bay park------things like chemical run off from farming---simply put chemicals kill fish--these "other things"need to be sorted out first as a priority-- 5-Consultation with Locals------in the case up here with the Byron Park-------there has not been the consultation with what I call the"people who are effected"-----that is--not in any order--local fishos-both beach or boaties---local businesses--such as retailers and accommodation places--and others who just live in the region--- The bottom line with the park as is is proposed---it will satisfy about 2% of people in the region---about 20% dont care either way------the other 78% are most unhappy about the whole"rail roading "affair------ I would like to leave with this comment----I wonder who would win this one???----------Imagine if they tried to put in "Surf Board no go zone marine parks"---in this area-surf boards do more damage to rock habitat fish spots that line fishermen by a long shot------Gregg
