  1. Red big eye or big red eye, caught one last year in deep water, I released it but was told they are good eating. Amazing the fish we catch in the harbour since the government stopped pro fishing due to dioxins.
  2. Quality fish, excellent health well done!
  3. Went to bb fad Saturday, water very green and only 18 deg. Very disappointing for a massive donut and horrible conditions. Saved face with two nice flatties off box head on the way home. Good luck
  4. I live at Wobby and many times I see witches hats or traps just floating by in the current. The trick is to set them on the run in tide as it is slower, the north west side of the rail bridge can be ok but is deep, and is a bit out of the current. The most successful guys are the ones who fish nearby their traps and check them every hour or so.I know there are possibly thieves out there but the best way to seriously catch crabs is not to give the thieves the opportunity. If you drop your traps then speed off into the distance, you will attract them. All the best
  5. Hi mate I caught a couple at Whitehorse Bay on Sat arvo, live yellowtail, bycatch, but seriously, I cant be bothered cleaning them, and my first experience of rubbing off the chrome, slabbing them and bbq ing them was disastrous. Can you give me your recipe , cause I really found them boney and not very nice to eat. regards
  6. Yes I did mate, does she live in Lane cove?
  7. Hi Raiders no photos. Left Castlecrag 4:00pm monday went to Clontarf in the hole off the point. Used slimey mackeral for 1 60cm flathead and lots of small bites, think baby snapper. Moved to Seaforth at 5:00pm on the top of the tide. 2 nice little jewies both 65cm . first caught on fresh caught squid with single 6.0 through top of bonnet, second same size on the smelliest most disgusting piece of slimey mackeral ever used. Both fish fat , kept all three with big family feed tonite. All good. Good luck over Easter.
  8. Hi Raiders Did not expect to get out so far on Saturday but the wind held off and had a beautiful run at 8 knots. Grabbed 10 livies from West Head at 7:30.A little king and a big sambo grabbed half floated pillies in the berley trail, site fishing is great fun. , trolled straight out for some great little mack tuna for bait. Got to the FAD which had 4 boats around it , no one catching anything. Trolled past and out into the blue after throwing out about a kilo of cubed bonito to stir things up. Had a little mack skip bait trolling behind for some time there and back for no action. Came back past the FAD all boats gone. Sat just west in no current in pretty much the same spot for an hour, with three livies on unweighted light lines.Caught 4 beautiful dollies, let half a dozen go. They were extremely finicky.Didnt see the bull.Cleaned the dollies this morning, all four had the cubed bonito in there tummies, plus several of the other guys yellowtail. Didnt take photos sorry, but thought you might think journey might be worth it at Easter. Tight lines!
  9. Hi raiders planning a 22klm trip this Sat. Has anyone been there lately and with any success. I only do 8 knots so its a three hour journey sometimes depending on current from barrenjoey. Would appreciate any feedback. Wishing you nall tight lines.
  10. Hi You go a hell of a long way to the grounds which are only about 25m deep. Expect to catch mackeral, Venus tusk fish (they call them something else), fuseliers, and dusky morwong which get thrown back. Tight lines
  11. I had a similar experience south of Texas, and that show of fish is definitely yakkas, we found them on every reef in close and out wide. The jackets got us at the flathead grounds over sand. Salmon were thick as well. All the best.
  12. Hi I find if you are fishing on the mud , you do get catfish and eels. However if you are near structure, you also get jewfish and flathead. It can help to lift your baits off the bottom. I find live baits work well for less catfish. Tom
  13. I checked out the fisheries site for a red big eye, and yeah, it is extremely similar but not the same. Still unsure. Thanks for replying.
  14. Hi Raiders caught this fish in Middle harbour in 80ft of water. Anyone know what it is?
  15. I think it looks like it came out of freshwater.
  16. Caught this fella in the middle of the day on a fresh squid. Bottom of the tide. Same result a few weeks ago. I had only just put the line down in 5.0m of water and was baiting my second rod. Got a good feed so stopped fishing for the next few days. Total fishing time less than five minutes
  17. Thesquid is fresh, there are a couple of places in Brooklyn where you can buy it just caught, but it is expensive.
  18. Kept this fella for the table. Caught him on fresh squid in the middle of the day. Got busted up just two minutes before he came on board. Caught on bought squid, always a reliable bait.
  19. Havent fished here for a while. Caught this little fella after 30 minutes. No more after that.
