  1. Hi I caught 1 in Middle Harbour a few years ago in deep water, it released ok, but I have heard they are also tasty
  2. Caught in upper Hawkesbury I think it might be a trout let through warragamba last time it was flushed. About 3 kilo caught last week
  3. Grinner , very boney , not on top of my taste table but seem to be caught a lot in the harbour after heavy rain.
  4. great catch when released did you have to swim her a bit or did she just go?
  5. Great Dory Mate Delicious as well
  6. When in doubt do nought. I love occies but big ones are tough to deal with, I don't know about the varieties you cant eat but certainly not a blue ring job. I think letting it go was the best option. all the best
  7. Caught the yellowtail for bait at West Head the afternoon before, didn't weigh him but I would say 5 or 6 kilos, he was 95cm, my shoe length is 30cm size 11. rig was a 6 o circle hook with 20lb mono leader. top of the tide at 8.30 am. I used one of those running clips that hold a small snapper sinker and 1m of trace but I keep the sinker about 1m off the bottom. Have my secret spot but all of my advisors are right , fish slack tides , top or bottom and you get about a 20 min time frame, if no good go drift for flatties. Skinned , filleted , floured with salt and pepper , then bbq with a little sunflower oil delicious. Fish for fun but fish for a feed, let the rest go.
  8. Got this fella a couple of weeks ago in the Hawkesbury, couldn't post it til now and worked out how to make it a jpeg. Live yellowtail on 30lb braid.
  9. the size of that fish would indicate it grew up there and was not a straggler from up north in the warm currents. Very rare indeed and a great catch. Good to hear you released it but that is an amazing catch for the Rip. all the best hope your jewie comes soon.
  10. sounds like the man with the dragon tattoo very enjoyable reading mate like to meet you one day. excellent!
  11. good fish mate well done, proves to get the biggens, you have to put in the time, it has nothing to do with good luck, you are obviously skilled and experienced. all the best!!!!
  12. Amazing, the harbor is coming good with some quality fish, I caught one half the size in sugarloaf bay a few weeks ago, which amazed me then, yours leaves me gob smacked. I haven't fished since but rowed out to my clinker a couple of weeks ago which sits in 3m of water. It was very quiet and early and I saw that the entire bottom of the bay was covered in whiting all looked huge, when I cranked up the simplex they all went whoosh and took off. Last week I was working on the boat and saw huge kings working bait schools around me, bet they wouldnt take a hook. Could be a productive summer, but love the fact that it seems as though most of us are letting the big ones go. Great effort and yes dad you better practice before you become completely outdone!!!
  13. Ventured out again sat to bib fad to find Sammy and Samantha seals causing havoc with the local Dollie population. Interesting that the both circled the fad for up to 150 m away then coming back in, saw two fish taken by them a distance away, don't know if the fish were dollies or not. Managed two after two hours, definitely the seals scared the dollies away. Great weather though. Wall the best
