  1. i gave the harbour off rosebay a try last week. Couldnt interest the kings but picked up a 75cm jew around the first wooden channel marker. Pesky leather jacket kept smashing our squid baits and apart from a few small flatties it was pretty dead.
  2. i find the best method is a plastic bottle trap with some bread pieces. Simple to make and it works.
  3. Thanks for the report mate. I used to love catching a feed of fantail off darling street wharf when i was a kid. I remember we used to sneak into the admirals yacht wharf at Kirribilli and get abnormally large fantail just after daybreak. We'd get thrown out as soon as someone started work and spotted us. Biggest i've ever seen till this day. They are useless sport wise and can wreck some gear but they are wonderful eating the old jacket.

    Jew Meterey

awesome jew. Only 2 failed attempts and you land that, lol? krikey!
  5. good stuff mate, well done. jewys are a little special and are no doubt a species most fishos want to tick off the list.
  6. Thanks for the report mate. i got a really nice whiting up from como bridge last year on the gulp 2" shrimp, i think molting and natural colours worked best for me.
  7. i know this is an ancient topic but i felt i had to defend the gillmaster name. Yes the gear is chinese made but they are not cheap shit. The brand names outsource to some of these same factories. Gillmaster was actually an aussie company in WA and had a decent size storefront. The owner "cooly" also had an abay shop and sold a few things on there. They sold entry level gear but also had some higher level. They did have quality control and their better rods and reels were made to a decent specification, unlike a lot of the junk spewing from no name factories. As with most things, you get what you pay for but the gillmaster rods especially were actually excellent value. I have a couple of their IM8 carbon baitcast rods for 10 years now and they are still going strong. The chinese have come A LONG WAY in the last 10 to 15 years. They got hold of all the CNC machines and technology. All you have to do is hand them an order to specification and they will make it. There is so much junk because sleazy operators dont care about the quality of the product or the materials used.
  8. nice catch salmon are great value when they start leaping hey.
  9. top catch and a very entertaining report. cheers
  10. top stuff and congrats on the stonker PB. Thanks heaps for the report guys
  11. what a grouse session, great variety. Look at that bream?
  12. top session, wish i had half the nack of picking up jewies as some raiders. I think you did the right thing not eating the cray, especially if you were around or west of the bridge. It probably would'nt do a lot of harm eating it once every blue moon When you think about it, not knowing for sure if and how it may effect us, is it really worth the chance? lol, its a new spot he just found so I think sydney harbor is about all we are getting plankton. Thanks for the report
  13. Thanks for the report Adam Good stuff Well done on having a heads up when handling cat fish A hit from one can certainly ruin your day. You must have some crazy tolerance to pain gianni? I remember my old man getting stung on the hawksberry years ago and his hand blew up like a balloon in minutes. The last thing he was thinking about was fishing on, lol. Before long we were back in the car and racing back to sydney and he was off to the hospital. My old boy was fairly big and a bit of a tough nut but he was in a fair bit of pain. I suppose it can depend on each persons reaction to the venom. Some are more effected than others to things like, venom, insect stings and allergies etc
  14. wow nice trev. I got one years ago in the harbour off the admirals yatch wharf at kirribili. It had a tag saying to contact NSW fisheries. Apparently it was a competition and the then premier neville wran released it under the harbour bridge. Anyone that caught it won 25 grand i think it was. Wouldnt you know it, I caught it 3 weeks after the competition ended, DOH!, lol.
  15. hit the bay on sunday for the first time in a few weeks. What a beautiful autumns day. Got a couple of perfect size flatties for a feed. As usual there were plenty of squire however they were larger then they usually are but still just under legal unfortunately. I havent seen them consistently that size for ages, they are usually much smaller. Got one nice flattie at around 65cm. She had a bellie full of eggs so we let her go to do her stuff. Tried the harbour last week for a change. Didnt do very good, only one keeper flattie. While heading out from rose bay ramp towards middle harbour, we did get onto a couple of small bonito while trolling past the light house. Pretty disappointing as we hoped for a king ot two but still much better than sitting at home. A few blokes in a boat near us persisted with drifting close to some pylons, using fresh squid with no or very little weight and they were finally rewarded with a couple of ok kings of around 70cm or so.
  16. WOW!, look at that squid! top stuff , looked a great day out
  17. Yep, ya gotta be cheering with that catch. Well done. like you djbazzab i couldnt find much the other day either, only a couple of flatties and a flounder What depth were you fishing Daniel?
  18. thanks for the reports guys. We gave inside the hacking a try friday night. Fished opposite yowie bay for a few bream and tailor, only one keeper. Got the bream on a whole pillie. Moved to the sand flats off lilli pilli where we thought we might've been onto a jew or two as my brother, then me were both busted off after a 5 or so minute fight. My bro finally got what the probable culprit was, about a 3 foot shovel nose ray. DOH! Even tho they are supposed to be a good feed we let him go. He went pretty hard on light gear with 6lb braid. We decided to go for a troll before heading home and the owner of the boat got onto a kingy while weaving in and out of the moored boats close to shore inside gymea bay. He was trolling a white 130mm squidgey like slick rig. Unfortunately he fiddled with the drag as he got him right to the boat and the pause was just enough to let him shake free. It was only a rat of 60 or so cm but spewing. I dont think it realised it was off for a few seconds as he kept gliding on top of the water alongside the boat for about 10 feet with mouth wide open, then took off.
  19. is that off the walkway near the train bridge?
  20. thanks for the report mate. That is one awsome kingy, congrats.
  21. 2 jews!, awesome mate. Well done .
