  1. Hi Bream Mad

Can we have some details on your rod and real please.

Nice bream! Good report. You sure had better luck than I this week.

    Jill

    Hi Jill,

I have a 6'8" shimano rack raider matched to a 1500 Sedona, I use 4pound fireline and 4-9pound fluoro leader depending on structure levels. I bought the rod and reel as a combo for $200 and it has caught many fish, including some big lizards and even salmon. It is right at home fishing snags such as pylons or racks, has plenty of low down grunt :biggrin2:

  2. Fished Blackwattle Bay on thursday and friday morning before uni and things were pretty tough

Started off dawn throwing my black R2S bubble pop around for some interest but no solid hookups.

Made my way round from the rowing clubs for absoloutly zip, when you can't get a hit on a gulp worm you are pushing you know what uphill :074:

Tryed both SP's and HB's without success, finnally briefly hooked onto a bream over some shallow weeds and scored a flatty next cast :biggrin2:

Tried off the jetty which had plenty of chopper milling around, a SX40 and fast retrieve into the mix produced instant chopper but they were pretty small even by chopper standards.

Cast into the hole next to the jetty and when my grub finally hit the deck i was rewarded with this little trevally

    post-2475-1174711768_thumb.jpg

Made my way back to the jetty at the rowing club where i missed a strike on the popper, to be confronted by big bream after big bream easily visable along the bank :1yikes:

I tried everything but they were not realy interested.

Then i cast under the pylons with a squidgy bug and it was clobbered by this good bream, he went 35cm and fat as , :yahoo:

  4. Well done guys on another top day :biggrin2:

    geez the weather looked good.

Saw a couple of bream and the trev with dorsal fin injuries, is this due to previous encounters with pros nets or what?

Were i fish on Berowa creek, seems every second bream looks like that, at first i thought i was catching the same fish :074:

    Cheers

  5. Well done!

I head down around Tathra every winter to catch Salmon on bream gear off the beach, a lot of fun.

Broke a rod last year throwing a lure that was too heavy for the rod. So be careful! 3" Bass Minnows on 1/8 head, Perfect.

    I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Howard.

Yeh, that is pretty much what i used for the salmon a 3" Bass Minnow in pearl blue on a 3grm #1 jig,

    post-2475-1173300643_thumb.jpg second from the top

got to remember not to flatten the barbs, as the sambo's kept throwing the hooks, do you have the same problem?

seems like i lost 4 good fish before the hooks held.

  6. NICE tailor there, mate!:yahoo: I've been toying with the idea of using plastics in the surf for a while - I think it's time I gave it a go! The slick rigs look good, too.

    Flattieman.

Don't just toy with the idea mate go and smack a few!!!

I always liked the look of the slick rigs (in true bue and drop bear) and it did not take much effort to nail that thumping tailor. I just recon plastics give you more options with retrieves and depths ect. as well as being better looking than a ganged pillie :074:

    BM

  7. Hi Raiders,

More fish from the south coast on plastics from the rocks and beach.

Water temps were down some what but once you locate a pelagic they usually are not too fussy.

Thought i would give the slick rigs a go in 100mm size and after my third cast in this particular spot came up tight on this monster tailor :1yikes: He fought like hell and tasted pretty good as well

He went 55cm definetly the biggest tailor i have caught (and I am from QLD) :yahoo:

    post-2475-1172979249_thumb.jpg

A couple of days later went exploring on Green Island with a bream stick

Found a good ledge and starting casting plastics literally into the swell. 3' BM/s in pearl blue were dynamite on a school of salmon, however they kept thowing the hooks shortly after hookup

Finally after loosing four solid fish the hook stays in this one :biggrin2: and after a long fight i have my first salmon  stoked , jeese they fight hard and never give up, he went 50cm

    post-2475-1172979278_thumb.jpg

apparently they don't taste that good, so he lived to fight another day.

    Cheers

  8. In his book on lures for Bream Bushy says he makes his own poppers using wooden dowel plugs from the hardware store. He adds a little prop, hooks, rings, paints it and thats about it.

I am asuming these would turn out like the Heddon Tiny Torpedoes?

I have got a pic but it is hard to see.

  9. hey there if you dont mind me asking what brand type and colour poper were you using :yahoo::biggrin2:

It's a River2sea Bubble Pop 35. Colour is gold/red. I owned it for a while but never used it before, but it seems to do the trick. Also tried some squidgy bugs unweighted but the Bream were not as cooperative that session

  10. Hi Raiders,

Just got back from my belated summer holiday with plenty of stories to tell :biggrin2:

After some serious storms i hit Berringer lake early pre dawn, conditions were light drizzle.

Bream were smashing prawns of the top left right and centre so i rigged up my bubble pop 35 and casted to the commotion. Not sure how aggressive i should retrieve it i blooped the popper along with plenty of long pauses. Bang it gets smashed of the top and my first popper bream comes to hand, stoked

    post-2475-1172376304_thumb.jpg

As the sun rises i move around to the oyster racks were the racket is astounding!!

Crack, crack , crack the sound of bream jaws gasping at helpless jumping prawns is a sight to behold :1yikes:

The lake bottom is covered in thick noctious weed and basically means that you have to keep your lure off the bottom for sucess. I tie on a premium SX40 to 6 pound leader and start casting down the alleys of the old broken up racks. Tap.tap, crash i'm on again, despite his best efforts i am able to keep him away from the racks and into open water were I land a better bream around 33cm

    post-2475-1172376340_thumb.jpg

I continue up the alley and tighten the drag up. Again the lure is smashed by a much bigger fish who trys to drag me in but we part company amost instantly  a closer inpection of the lure shows straigtened hooks on the back owner treble :mad3:

I keep casting after bending the hooks back into shape a the SX40 in hammered again but luckily he pulls clear of the racks and the battle begins. Then he relises his error and powers back home under the shallow trays. I release the tension slightly and wade in to fetch him out, somehow the leader stays intact and I grab

a shocked bream better than a kilo for a few pics, my largest ever caught on a HB.

    post-2475-1172376361_thumb.jpg

He is 39cm overall or 35.5cm fork lenght and promply released as all big bream should.

  11. looks like 6lb fluro should do the trick especially at H&C where there is not much structure. Now i just got to get the retrieve that bream like :1prop:

thanks for all the help guys

    billy

( ps i'm keen to practice so if you want to fish especially at H&C or surrounds pm me )

I have to agree there Billy,

I generally use a 6lb fluoro leader of aroud 2m's at H&C or basically any similar fishing spot. Fluoro is a bit thicker than standard mono and provides a little bit more abrasion resistance as well as being able to handle most flatties raspy teeth. Occasionally on shallow sand flats i go down to 4lb mono which is very thin and I recon I get more Bream, but any decent flatty will bite though it in no time (so you have to land them quick) :biggrin2:

    Cheers

    BM

  12. G'day Flattieman. I realised that the big ones usually just took off without u being able to feel the bites 1st. Most of my previous bigguns would normally take off while the lure is on the drop, while this particular one sort of happened during midway retrieval. If I did observe my line moving, yes, I'll wait a little while before striking. Hope you nail those finicky bream on SPs!

    Cheers

    Ronald

    Hey Ron,

    Stonker Breambo mate :1yikes:

Good to see you flickbaiting with sucess.

I agree with you most big bream 30+cm I have caught nailed the SP on the drop, usually on the cast.

They usually don't require much convincing :biggrin2: you just have to cast in the right place :1prop:

And flattieman make sure your hooks are seriously sharp because bream have hard bony mouths, I always sharpen all my jigs by hand using a file untill they dig into your fingernail when dragging them across.

Trust me when you start hooking scales they are sharp enough :074:

    Cheers

  13. Good to see everybody out catching Bream and Flatties again

Like fishing IC as well, although like HC Bay it can get bloody windy

One thing I have noticed lately about our humble flathead, once decide they like the look of your lure, the buggers just don't give up till its down their throat. If they miss on the first go just put your lure back into the same spot and your garanteed a hookup

    Cheers

  14. Hi Raiders,

Headed to my local spot armed with my new heartland stick to catch the run out.

As the tide was still pretty high opted for a 2"BM on 1/32 jig and targeted the mangroves.

Four casts in and the heartland loads up with the drag singing :biggrin2:

Maybe need to tighten that drag just slightly :074: as he not very big, but very sprirted

    post-2475-1168468043_thumb.jpg

I score couple of smallish flatties (30ish) then wade out onto the flats where the fun begins :yahoo:

Heavy wind and discoloured water makes the weedbeds harder than usual to find, but sure enough the bloodworm BM is nailed on the drop on the edge of a weedbed and this guy feels a lot bigger

    post-2475-1168468058_thumb.jpg

26cm is OK for this water, and he realy nailed the BM actually jumping out of the water on hookup.

The flatties then go on the chew and i must have released 5 small ones

On the way home i get another bream :biggrin2:

    post-2475-1168468066_thumb.jpg

The new stick performs fantastic, and casts light weight jigs miles.

All in all a good result for 2hours fishing :biggrin2:

    Cheers

  15. Great Effort Mate,

To get your girls some bass is a real good effort. :biggrin2:

My daughter is 3months, wonder when she can come fishing with dad???

sounds like the upper nepean is wall to wall bass boats!!! :tease:

Now i have had enough of these bass reports, I am going to catch a Bream this afternoon :074:

  16. Hi Raiders,

Just purchased a new heartland 7'6" matched to a laguna 1500 and went the whole hog with 2lb crystal fireline.

Whilst rigging it up with a 2kilo leader I wondered wether i really need one at all.

The fireline is bloody thin 80um whilst the leader is 150um.

If the fireline is realy translusent wouldn't i be better off ditching the leader all together and tying jigs directly to the fireline?

I will be using the combo on sandflats so abrasion resistance does not really matter.

    Cheers

  17. Hi Raiders,

I think we all get caught up in the actual fish we catch, but i beleive that we all fish in part to get back to nature.

So post up your pictures of beautiful places that you have been fishing :biggrin2:

Here are two of my favourite places to go trout fishing.

Both the Fish River, one near Oberon, the other near Tarana

    Cheers BM
