Over the side is definately the go Rick. You you stick it out the back it is too hard to hook up you line to the release clip. I have mine mounted so that everything is close at hand from the drivers seat. The Aftco clips are one of the best. Have it a few inches above the bomb, so you can leave the bomb hang in the water when you change rigs. That way, the bomb soesn't swing around and tangle up, or worse still smack the side of you hull. I usually mount my rod behind the downrigger. Dunno why, but it seems good for me. There is an article on SF that I wrote a couple of years ago. All the pics are gone now but the words are still there. My rigger isn't as flash as your's but this pic shows the set-up. Bright bomb is good for freshwater, fish your lure about a metre behind it.
