  4. Left of the green channel marker near Molly point facing east
  5. Hey buddy. Yeah took about 10 minutes on heavy gear. about 13-14 meters of water. Im a firm bekiever that botany bay can produce some of the best kingfish.
  6. When out on friday for a potential kingfish session. Squid were hard to come by. Managed 3 small one and 4 yakka's. Down they go on the downrigger. Not a hit. Anchored up and berley. Dropped a yakka down. 30 minutes later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The result is a fat 110cm kingie. Great start to 2013. Can't wait to get back out their
  7. Hi all. Woke up Sunday morning ready to tackle all the chores around the house.....Instead decided to go fishing for a Kingie for dinner. Got on the water about 7:00am for a downrig around Moli point for two kingies undersized...great fun. The southerly quite annoying so I decided to head off to oil wharf and anchored up in about 10 meters of water. Dropped a whole squid 1 meter shy of the bottom for a king or jewie... As I was playing with some trevally, when the rod buckled over and the dragged started to scream as I saw the line heading towards the oil wharf. Put the brakes on it and reel the sucker in for an 86cm Kingie. I was stoked. Went straight home and cooked kingie cutlets for dinner. Can't wait to do it again..........
  8. Hi All, Went for a quick squid session in the hacking Last night. Got some great Yamashita jigs . Got to Wally's wharf and ended up with 11 in one hour. All squid are perfect bait size. Those jigs are awesome. Cheers
  9. Well done mate on a top catch!!!!
  10. Gday mate The rod is a silstar crystal blue jig stick and the reel is a Shimano Spheros 14000 with the stella upgrade. The line is siglon teqneed 50lb + and 80lb fluorocarbon leader.
  11. Hi Guy's Went out on sunday for a bit of a fish. Got out onto at about 9:00am (bit of a late night ith the boy's the nigght before.). Did a bit of bream fishing around towra using nippers and chicken breast and score a few legal bream and a legal trevally. Then off to Live bait grounds to get some yakka's. I end up with 20 or so yakka, got the down rigger ready and off to Moli point to see if the kings were around. After cruising around Moli point and seeing a little activity, I loaded the down and sent a lollipop yakka down. After about 30 minutes of down rigging I was on only to lose him early in the fight. Loaded another yakka and began trekking along. As I was about to take a sip of my coffee, BANG and then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I was on and I knew this thing was big. I tell ya it's hard work downrigging on your own as I held the fish in the water while I wound the down rigger up. The fight lasted about 10 minutes and I gaffed a 90cm Kingfish. I was on stoked. After that I did a few passes and got a 66cm king and threw him back and got roated on another. I decided to head home at about 2:30pm with a big smile on my face. Can't wait to do it again... Cheers
  12. Hi there, I fished soft plastics for the first time in the bay on sunday and I had great success. I had the aid of berly on occasion. I fished towra and the hot water outlet in kurnel. Also a great spot is la Peruse near the nude beach....got my first bream to 32cm there.
  13. We were using 4lb and 6lb fireline with 10lb fluoro trace. The sp we were using was the gulp 3" minnnow in mouldy cheese and peppered prawn. I don't know the exact name for the retrieve but we'd cast out, let it sink and then jig it back 2-3 times and wind.
  14. Hi Guys, Just a quick report on my first fishing trip using softplastics...No bait!!!! This was our first time ever using softplastics Got the boat ramp at 6:00am and out to Towra point for a drift. Other than what tackle store owners have been telling us and some of the dvd's we have been watching, we had very little idea on what we were doing!!!! On our first drift my fishing buddy was on to a nice flathead to 42cm. We both started to jump around like idiots shouting and hi fiving eachother. I think we spooked all the fish away as we did not get another strike. Next we tried kurnell near the groynes and found ourselves a school of trevally and it was on with double hook ups on legal trevally. Then we crossed the bay for a bit of action around La perouse with trevally, bream and a few undersized snapper undersized. Species caught Bream - 2 Trevally - 16 Flathead -1 Snapper -4 It was one of the best days fishing. I have now been convertd to soft plastics. Next species I want to target is Jewies Cheers
  15. G'day mate, The bottom varies from about 45 ft to 70 ft. Cheers Richard
  16. You don't understand. I have rigged all my rods and all I can think about is going kingie fishing. The weather is just a mere formality. I have cancelled all my obligations for the next few weeks so I can concentrate on catchinmg one of these monsters. I feel you pain about wanting to go fish ma man.
  17. Hi All, My apologies for the late report. I went out on saturday and Sunday last weekend for a shot at the kings of botany bay. This is the outcome… Day 1 Saturday - Went out on Saturday and decided to take the 30 size overheads and some rapala lures for a troll of the headlands and the coast line to cronulla. Beautiful conditions out there . Trolled out past cape bank then across the mouth of Botany Bay and down to boat harbor. Did not get a single strike tolling but was awesome to get out there. I must say Australia is a beautiful country…makes me proud to aussie (oi, oi, oi ). After about an hour and a half of trolling, I decided to go back in, get some livies and downrig along Molineux Point. I only managed one small yakka so I put him down to 40 foot on the down rigger and headed along Moli point. Within 5 minutes I was on. Good fight and got a 72cm King. There was dinner. Headed back to the boat ramp by 11:30am. Day 2 – Sunday – Headed out at 7:00am and the weather was looking grim. Went to my live bait grounds and found it tough going to get only 5 yakka’s. Picked up anchor and started down rigging along Moli point again. Within 5 minutes of down rigging my reel (14000 spheros, 60lb braid and 80lb leader) started screaming in a way that I have never heard it. Grabbed the rod from the rod holder and began winding up the rigger bomb. The fish did not put up a fight at all. I started winding the fish and I could feel the weight of it…. It was big. I was trying what they call on the “kingfish secrets” DVD the gentle gentle technique . It only works until the kingie gets to the surface. I tell you it was the biggest king I have ever seen. Definetly over a meter. Once that kingie saw me and my gaff, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ it went for the most wildest run I have ever had. The fight went for a good 20 minutes. As I tried to stop the second last run, my hand hit the anti reverse switch and the handle flew around backwards and lightning speed and cracked me on the thumb…The pain was unbelievable but I was determined to bring it in. It went for the last run and found the rocky edge at moli point…Busted off. I let out the biggest scream (my apologies to the gentleman and his family on the kevlacat). Reloaded a yakka and down rigged again and again and again only to be busted off by hoodlums. So I decided to go to one of the channel marker and fish for trevally and bream. Got 6 trevally, a 32 cm snapper and 1 bream to 27cm. I caught a lot of snapper just 1cm undersize on Hawkesbury prawns. At that point my thumb was killing me and I headed home. After cleaning my boat and all my gear, I went to St George hospital and found that my thumb is fractured. There is no better way to break a bone that on a big kingfish. Lying in bed that night I was still pumped about my day and can’t wait for the next weekend….Rain hail or shine Cheers Richard
  18. hey m3rush. Well done on the kingies. I was out on sunday morning in the bay and got roasted twice down rigging for kings. Will be back out their on saturday. WELL DONE on a top catch Richard
  19. I fished until about 1:00am then packed up and went home. Conditions were quite good....There was alot of activity in the water
  20. Hi All, Decided to do a jewie run under the captain cook bridge. Got out their right on the turn of the tide and casted out a slab of squid. As I sat down o have my coffee, my bait runner 6500 started screaming in what turn out to be the best run I have ever had and then the fish was gone. I have never seen sooo much line come off a reel in such a short time. 15 minute after that run, got my first jewie to 63cm and three more followed in the next few hours as well as a nice blue swimmer crab. Total jewies = 4 biggest one was = 71cm. Awsome way to spend a chillie friday night Cheers Richard
