  1. Looks like a "elkele;';'y" mate, although a little less mottled than usual. Did it fight like shit? That would be consistent with a elkele;';'y. Caught heaps of them off the stones. There is another bycatch of luderick fishing called a "triggerfish". I've hooked these in the harbour and they are just the opposite. If you hook a good sized one on luderick gear, often you just can't stop them they go so hard. No idea why but when I write "c-o-c-k-y" it comes up as some nonsense. Wasn't trying to be rude, that's what that fish is called.
  2. Nice schoolie mate, I bet he gave you a couple of fun runs, well done. Big enough to be good eating too. Brendan
  3. Maybe. But at least he doesn't have to suffer the humiliation of being frisked by the cops on suspicion of terrorism like some of his former team mates still at the dogs. That doesn't do too much for your self esteem either, mate. Enjoy.
  4. I'll join the chorus..... awesome catch mate. Fantastic looking fat bream, Well done.
  5. Beautiful pics, looks like a great day. Nothing beats quality time with your kids on the river. Brendan
  6. Top report mate. Loved the bit about your Dad ringing you with the live call of the captures.
  7. Beautiful reddie mate, wouldn't mind getting stuck into a group of those. Whereabouts in the harbour? Brendan
  8. Keep trying JB, I want to see those pics! Brendan
  9. Hey Riders Seeing as you ask, I was on the Hawkesbury today with my Dad in a hired tinnie. Didn't have a chance to gather bait. So got some nippers and worms from Fishfinder (Thanks Tony). We accumulated a feed of bream and whiting. One very good whiting, one average bream, the rest just legal with plenty of throwbacks. Most fish caught by my Dad who finally kicked my arse! Quality time on NSW's most beautiful river. Would love to get among the bigger bream. But what a great day anyway. The feed....
  10. Didn't measure him mate, but definitely less than 45 cm.
  11. The Vines...... Throwback soapie... Nice whiting... A nice feed for the family....

    R.i.p.

My best wishes for you and your family. Peace be with you.
  13. Penguin, you are 100% right. Things have changed in the last 20 to 30 years. It is no longer acceptable, legally, to resolve grievances with fisticuffs. This is a 2 edged sword, as unfortunately the lowlifes know this and will behave in ways that 30 years ago they would have to have backed up. If they got their stupid effin face punched in and went crying to the police they would have laughed at them. These days, any softcock can call your wife an effin c in front of you, knowing they have the full protection of the law to do so. If you do what was once considered the right thing and drop them, you will be the criminal and you will face charges, conviction, implications for your job, etc. The world is a good place, but it does have pimples on it.
  14. They all hold worms. Problem is getting around the crowds of people wanting to know what you're doing. Try a really rainy day.
  15. Roberta I reckon worming's a lot like fishing don't you think? Sometimes they are easy to catch and sometimes bloody hard! Glad you got a few fish. Good luck at SWR, wish I was there. I've caught some monster whiting on Trial Bay Beach.
  16. Hi Roberta No, the NRMA says it won't affect my no claim bonus as they accept I was not the at fault driver. And I leaned on my horn the moment I realised what was about to happen and kept on the horn until after the impact. But our little friend was apparently deaf as well as blind, dangerous and criminally dishonest. He was probably on his mobile as well at the time. I've met lowlifes like this before under different circumstances. All sorts of vengeful thoughts go through your mind, but I've learned to quickly forget about them and not waste thoughts or feelings on them (but I have vented a little to my friends and on this forum!) . You want them out of your life as quickly as possible, maggots that they are.
  17. Anyone ever have this happen to them? I'm driving home, I'm travelling up a one-way street when a mercedes 4WD pulls up directly in front of me. I politely wait to see what he's going to do, when without warning he starts reversing. I lean on my horn but it's too late and his rear left bumper crunches my right front and side panels. He then drives forward and parks. I get out of the car. Although I'm mightily pissed off, I couldn't be nicer. I ask him if he's OK, he says yeah. No sorry or anything. We exchange particulars. I say "are you happy you were in the wrong here?". He says "Not really". I ask him what he means, to which he replies "You drove up the back of me and hit my car". I ring the police (who are not interested because no one is injured). No witnesses except his passenger, who looked just as dodgy as his mate so I didn't bother asking if he was honest. There are some people around who are just oxygen thieves. They do not belong in this country. The nice part (which surprised me) is when I immediately rang my insurance company and explained what happened, they assured me I wouldn't have to pay any excess, even if this c**t goes one step further and tries to get me to pay his damages. They said they would settle something with his insurance company. But I assume he won't pay any excess either, which annoys me, as the BS he tells his insurance company to worm out of paying an excess is a form of criminal insurance fraud that costs all of us honest people in terms of higher premiums.
  18. Thanks guys It was beautiful conditions on the Hawkesbury yesterday. We left the boatshed at 7.15 and arrived at the Vines at 7.45, just before dead low tide. We burleyed and used live nippers, so disappointed we didn't nail any decent bream. Just undersize soapies, one keeper flattie and about a half dozen catfish which took a liking to our nippers (plus an octopus!). Moved to Milson flats, drifted and only managed more undersize bream. About 12.30 moved to Dangar Island. Immediate action, with 5 keeper bream, a thumper 37 cm whiting and more throwback bream and reddies. All in all a most enjoyable day. No thumper bream (next time maybe), but got a feed in the end (always seem to with premium bait on the Hawkesbury). Any Hawkesbury experts got advice on how to fish the Vines? Will post pics later. Brendan
  19. Hey guys Just pumped a good bucket of yabbies for a day on the Hawkesbury tomorrow with my Dad. Planning to hire a little tinnie at Brooklyn. Planning to fish around the Vines or the bridges. It was bloody windy this afternoon, the weather prediction for tomorrow says S/SE winds 10-15 knots. Is that really windy? Will it be fishable? Sorry for the dumb question, but not much of a boatie. Thanks.
  20. How would live nippers rate compared to live crabs in your opinion? Cheers
  21. Hey Grouseman It's a full moon at the moment which means big tides. The first and last quarter moons bring the small tides that mean you don't need a brick to hold bottom. Fishing the change of tides will be your best bet tomorrow, high around noon, low around 6 pm. Have not fished there for a while, but almost always had luck as long as your bait is premium - live worms, live nippers or if you can get them live prawns even better for big bream. I used to fish Milson Island where the flats drop off opposite the Vines, and the Vines. Also Juno Point. Good luck. Hope the southerly drops off.
  22. Thanks mate. Didn't end up going as the kids kept me occupied. Just as well, massive southerly just hit this evening. So if there are gates that close then if I'm going to put a an evening session in for jews it means I'll have to stay overnight to get out of there? It's a pretty long walk from the carpark at North Cronulla.
  23. Anyone been there lately? Last went there over 5 years ago. Thinking of going there for a fish tonight and wondering what the access is like there these days. The road entry from Kurnell used to be very, very potholey (worse than the moon surface). Just wondering if it has deteriorated since then. Thanks.
  24. Hey Owzat, fantastic haul. Would you mind telling me exactly how you rig and present beachworms for jew? What size and kind of hook? Do you use a great big bunch of worms and how do you get them on the hook?
  25. Bloody nice schoolie and an even cuter son! I have a 5 year old and 18 month old son. Life has been mad balancing work, wife and kids for a long time and not much fishing gets done these days. My hat goes off to you handling 4 little ones in a boat! I bet the young bloke was excited to see and hold a fish like that and what a great photo for the archives.
