  1. i've got a dunbier drive on trailer for my cat. it's got one set of roller posts at the rear for squaring up. jigholio, does your southcoast trailer have one or two sets of these wobble rollers and what size is your cat?
  2. thanks for that. the rest of the fish was fried up today until just cooked and the meal wasn't bad. thankks for the suggestions.
  3. how do you catch live whitebait?
  4. Scored my first samson fish yesterday and was wondering how these critters should be cooked. I filleted one today and baked half the fish, one piece just baked with salt and oil, the other wrapped in foil with some spices. I found the fish a bit dry and tasteless. great fight though, tougher than a kingie i reckon. how do raiders rate samsons as a table fish? what is the best way to cook them up?
  5. ps: is it just my dirty mind or is that bloke copping a handful?
  6. what type electric motor are you running?
  7. kelvin, on the topic of stealth and spooking fish from under your boat, have you looked into side scanning sounders such as the humminbirds? imagine adding an extra sounder to your inshore arsenal. scary to imagine. thannks for the informative posts. i am one of the abovementioned minions hosting a 585 yet to christen the boat with anything worthy of a report.
  8. peeled prawn and stinky pilly cubes.
  9. Just a quick report. Pics to follow tomorrow. Finished work early and with the great news that the forecasted storm was going to hit tomorrow morning rather than this afternoon, there was no other choice but to hit the harbour for a quick session. Put the boat in at Roseville and motored up to CG. It was quite windy and choppy from harbour traffic. After a quiet wait, we burlied hard and soon got on to some keeper sized trevally. As the light faded, the skies lit up with lightning and the wind stopped. The water became glassy, the air felt warm and you could almost feel the electricity of the approaching storms. Meanwhile, the trevally started getting bigger and the bites more ferocious.... no more tap, tap, taps, just massive hits and runs. Pulled anchor when the lightning became more frequent and the wind started coming from the south. My mate trolled a live yakka through the spit on the way home for zip (had a massive bust off last week using the same technique). Total tally, 9 keeper trevally, several throw backs and a keeper red in 2 hours. Not bad for a couple of newbies to boating, I thought.
  10. maybe that's where the confusion lies. no tax or duty if your goods are less than $1000aud but once you pass that figure, total costs including postage/insurance is used for calculating tax.
  11. i disagree. i've called customs about that specifically. it's the value of the purchased item ONLY which must be below $1000 AUD.
  12. nice, tell me, is there much meat in the head of those jackets? i usually toss the heads.
  13. recently bought a furuno 585 from os. i've been satisfied with these guys. www.scubasteve.com www.fishonmarine.net also, type in froogle on google and follow the link - www.google.com/products - you can type in whatever product you want and you'll get a list of online stores which stock the item and a list of their prices. it's an alternative to ebay. some traders will invoice your package below $1000 if its price is close . worth an email or a phone call before you buy.
  14. thanks guys. i'm happy that i can give the trailer brakes a quick spray and engine a flush at the boat ramp before the salt crystallises.
  15. I'm new to boating so any advice would be appreciated. Just wondering with all the water restrictions in place at the moment whether it is legal to hose off your boat and trailer after a fishing session? can i do it at the ramp? can i do it at home after a session? thanks.
  16. great report. what type of boat are you guys fishing from?
  17. as mr burns would say: eehhhhxcellent. see you fellas out wide. thanks for the replies.
  18. i recall a discussion on depth sounders and browns but couldn't find it on a search. i purchased a furuno fcv-585 fishfinder with a 600w transducer. does anyone in sydney have experience with these units and will i be able to see the shelf / browns with my 600w transducer? thanks.
  19. picture looks doctored. look at the outline around the fingers and the cloudy eye of a fish that's been dead for a while.
  20. great report. my first memories of fishing include mornings and afternoons at that spot with my dad some 25 years ago! I used to catch yakkas, tailor and the odd slimy mackerel on handline while pops would fish off the very end casting straight out as far as he could for bream and flathead. In all the years I fished that spot I never heard of or saw a kingy pulled. how things have changed. seen some BIG flathead and BIG tailor though. well done.
