  1. most tackle shops will stock it.
  2. I had to post this report on behalf of a mate who's a long time fr voyeur but never signed up for membership. On Saturday he hit a well known and heavily used sydney wharf close to an even better known and even heavier fished bait ground in middle harbour. The plan was to convert some locally caught yakkas in to yellow tails of a much larger variety. The session began very promising with his yakkas preferring air to water and some solid runs without hookup. Unfortunately, the hot bite dried up as the sun rose higher. About to pack it in, he observed a well known tour operator rock up close to the wharf in his purple boat and get stuck into some amazing blackies. Ten fish in under an hour and about as many bust offs. Armed with the free demo, he set about mimicking the techniques as best he could the following monday. The following pics tell you the rest of the story.
  3. i suggest you watch the craig magill video about fishing in sydney. he goes with alex bellisimo who shows him a spot or two worth considering for lb kings... you can even suss out some good tevhniques. good luck.
  4. fantastic report. ps: love your bait tank... it's like one of those fish tanks at a chinese restaurant. "i'll take the big one with the green eyes!"

    Redfin

is anyone getting onto redfin lately? i used to find them at burrinjuck a while back but have since moved house.
  6. where is "hole in the wall"? ps: keep it clean.
  7. could someone please post pics of the knot tying process?
  8. swim bladders likely create strong echos but are not essential. seeing thermoclines is an example. Sound is reflected at the boundaries between different materials. The greater the difference in material density, the stronger the reflection ie: what you see on your screen. Sound reflects very well wherever water meets air (eg. swim bladder and fish soft tissues), or water meets sand or rock. The size of the echo depends on several factors including the time a fish is inside your transducer beam and the size of the fish. ie: big fish / slow moving = bigger echo. Colour screens tend to be better than black and white as the dynamic range in these units is better - more colours representing different echo strengths than black, white and a few shades of grey inbetween. This means you can differentiate subtle differences in density creating small echoes and displaying them on your screen. The classic example is seeing a thermocline - there are subtle differences in water density at different temperatures which create the reflected sound wave.
  9. I've read the depth sounder secrets book which was very informative. I've seen depth sounder tutorials on the web which were also quite good. I think it would be a great topic if raiders were to post snapshots of their depth sounder screens with a run down of what was caught at the spot. eg what a school of slimies look like, kingies, etc. noticed a recent thread on the mystery monster echo in mh and would love to see a pic of something like that on this thread. what do the raiders think?
  10. good vid that one. get it and see the technique / rig used. even better still, use the jig as it's intended. vid even shows you what to look for on your sounder.
  11. great collection. my favourite eating fish.
  12. penguin, what rig do you use?
  13. same motor. pretty good economy i think. i'm getting about 12-15 hours per tank which is about 5 / 6 trips around the harbour from roseville to the heads and a few spots in between. i haven't done any offshore trips yet. (i bought the boat three months ago) i run a dual battery setup, furuno 585 sounder, all else pretty much standard. i prefer to fish without the bimini and clears. one thing which bugged me was i noticed the fuel gauge doesn't work. i spoke to the guys at my first service about this and was told that the slope of the tank wouldn't allow the gauge to work properly... they suggested i drill holes and add a clear tube / piping outside the tank?!?! as a visual gauge. wasn't sure if this was true...probably jurking me ov, but it hasn't been a big deal so haven't bothered calling around or contacting webster. it's not the quickest boat on the harbour which is why i asked about the motor seeing as you obviously head out wide. i get a top speed of 45kpkh (ideal conditions). how do you find the handling and trip to/fro the shelf? how long would it take to say reach brown mountain?
  14. How terrible for you.... all that blood and smell from too much success. what outboard do you have?
  15. i thought i got away without sparking a debate on carp release v's kill. my understanding was it is the law to destroy any carp removed from an australian water... maybe that's changed... if so, i retract my comment. coming from a european background, I have relatives in croatia and france that would pop a vein if they heard that we treat carp like trash. apparently they're a delicacy. i've hearad if you put a carp in your bath tub with some cold fresh water for 24hrs, it gets rid of the muddy taste. my dad regularly targets the carp and makes a mean fish chilli stew with carp... truly a tasty dish. fish cakes aren't too bad either. cooked the "usual" way, i'd rather eat a terd. PJ Garn, read your link as suggested and i respect your views. there is a reason species such as the eel tail catfish are a rare species, and i think it is widely accepted that noxious introduced species such as carp have a lot to do with it. in saying this, i too find it hard to simply toss a carp on the bank that i know full well i won't eat. fortunately for me, i don't often target the species and if i were to catch one it would end up in my parent's fridge or freezer for a croatian carp recipe. cheers.

    Taxidermy

show us a pic of your prize jewie.
  17. thanks for the pics jigholio. i think you're right... i probably could just get the attachments. good choice not putting in the fish box seat... i don't think its worth the space it takes up. i'm also planning to get a heavy duty ice box i can put between the front seats and the fold away windscreen hatch for anchor access... it will double as a step for easier access to the anchor well. what do you do about the water build up on deck in that little well at the back below the deck bung level?
  18. thanks jigholio. nice trailer setup. looks pisz easy to drive on. i've got single rollers each side at the back. lines me up ok but i'm still not brave enough to load back on trailer solo... worried about scraping my prop or going too far forward on an angle and missing the rubber stoppers. post up some more pics of your setup. any mods? i'm thinking of moving my fish box seat more forward so there's more walking space around the back. (mine is a 4.9)
  19. hope you killed that carp after saving it from the hook and broken leader.
  20. jewgaffer: insert post here - ............................... . better yet, do a search on jewgaffer under member's post's. you will find some extremely informative threads on these topics from about 9 months back... if i spent so much as half the time i spend watching this site fishing, i'd be a pro. damn you fishraider.com.au
  21. is a wobble roller the same as a guide post? are we talking about those things at the back of the trailer on this pic?
  22. just mucking around dude. good job on the editing. if i caught fish like that in the harbour i'd be so paranoid about a thousand fisho's hammering my spot i wouldn't even take photos in public.
  23. i think i can see a pixel or two of the wedding cake over his right shoulder. what do you reckon? ps: well done.

    Burley Pot

I'm after a burley pot for bouncing off the bottom. Any suggestions as to which types are the best? i've heard of diy jobs and stainless steel numbers but couldn't be bothered diy'ing and would like to know what people use and would recommend (and where to buy from / how much to pay / etc.). thanks in advance.
