  1. You couldnt really call what I was doing fishin' but I will take what I can get, and yeah I have seen some big kingies there but never hooked into one... YET. In fact I have seen quite a few big fish around there. I usually go for the yakkas and then toss it out live, then just sit back with my little kids rod and see what happens. Usually get a feed of something. and have a great time doing it too.
  2. Got up at dawn and sneaked out of the house to the salt pan wharf, hoping to get in an hour or two in before the wife wakes up and starts ringing me. Rigged up my trusty ole estuary rod with a bit of gut and just layed it down on the wharf, while I get the kiddy rod out to put a peeled prawn on it, when it nearly hopped off the wharf on its own. To my surprise i pulled in a beauty little bream going on 30cm. So I rigged it again tossed it back in the same place, and went back to peeling the prawn, I didnt even get the prawn onto the hook before ole trusty is skidding over the wharf again. The brother to the other was before my eyes, it went 29 cm. Bar rigging the damn thing up I hadn't touched it and had 2 little rippers all in 10 minutes now thats luck. So I just picked up my gear and took off home and was back in bed without the missus knowing I had left. Didnt wanna push my luck tooo far.

  4. Hi everyone, just got back from coromandel yesterday, sadly I wasnt there for the fishing but I was down at the wharf and as Roberta said. There are some big blackies there. I watched a guy pull out 2 40+cm blackies, no guessing what he was gonna do with them........... nothing to do with cray pots thats for sure. PS Roberta r u from there?
  5. Welcome fellow fisherman. I fish the lakes all the time and I have had many a day like uours. I just keep going back for more. Your in the right place for great help and advice. this forum is da bomb. I couldnt catch a cold when I started reading this forum. Well I dont do that much better now either. but I do know why now.See you on the lakes.
  6. Got up yesterday morning with the at home and thought, time for a fish. luckily the tide was low so I took off to careel bay for a few yabbies. Then I went home to wait for the full tide. It was so windy when I got to the lakes that the only place I could cast in without problems was down at north narra bridge. Watched a bloke with a spinner, fish all around the bridge, for zip. So now its my turn. Fished for 20 minutes, without a touch and was just about to call it quits when my son said he had got a couple of bites. Well, that was enough to keep me there and lucky for me we did. 5 minutes later I felt a soft little tug on my line. I was so tempted to strike but held my breath and waited , there it was again. I gave a turn of the ole egg beater and WHACK. I was ooonnnn. You just cant beat that feeling. Can you!!! .... After a couple of runs I dragged this little beauty out. [see photo] I used a ***** rig with 3kg line and a 1/0 long shank with a yabby and little drag, just for fun. I felt so good I let the thing go. so I got a PB and my first catch and release. Thanx Fishraider forum.
  7. haven't caught anything of size but i have learned some very very useful things. I met a fellow fisherman who has helped me to improve my chances somewhat. in fact he has been most generous with advice.if you read my first submittion, you would know I cant fish for nought. Now i can get yakka's anytime, have learned to gang up and i know what a float can do. Have bought squid jigs, but yet to land 1, that hasn't been through lack of trying though. I now know that its all in the presentation. My float has given me a tailor and a salmon, couldnt stop talking about it for a couple of days. The wife has stopped giving me ****** now, cos I am actually bringing something home to eat. [ hunter and gatherer] I have caught a 40cm flattie and a million pinkies, a few bream and a couple of whiting, but nothing to write home about. I go fishin' almost every morning for a couple of hours, but just dream about it all the time. Im still reading the forum avidly and drooling for the day when i get the BIG one. I have a mate comin' down from Qld with his tinnie next week so i will let you know how it goes. It might be my big break.LOL Tight lines everyone.
  8. God bless Australia mate....... like the man said, in the states shit would happen Who would want to live anywhere else
  9. This is my first post since finding this site. I live on the northern beaches and have just started fishing. Haven't had much luck till I started reading this forum. Used to use servo bait and all. Went down to coal aand candle yesterday morning early after pumping yabbies at Bayview the night before.I thought I would take the last of the pilchards left in the freezer. Berlied up with chicken pellets and some old tua oil i had saved for the occasion. Sat down for a smoke thinking same ole same ole, little realizing that this was going to be something quite different. I started using the yabbies for a start getting the usual, nothing bigger than the palm of your hand. for some reason I looked at the pilchards and thought, what the heck. From that moment all hell broke loose. First cast out and I was hooked up, and let me tell you that with a light bream rod, I got the fright of my life. This thing was just stripping line off me. I eventually reeled it in and to my surprise it was a snapper, going on for a kilo. Thee best 5 minutes of my fishing career. The next hour was something that old fishermen brag about in the pub for years. I got 3 more from 1/2 to 1 kilo and the biggest got away. I probably would have got it if i wasn't such a noob. Anyway I just had to tell someone about my day. Keep the advice goin' people. Now all i need is advice on how to handle a fishin' widow
