  1. Thankyou to fishraiders for the birthday wishes. Sorry for the late post, iv'e been in Port Macquarie visiting mum who is ill, for the last week. We managed to have a fish near the rowing club for a couple of hours on friday, Lyn got a nice bream on mullet fillet. Geoff.
  2. The smile say's it all Dan, a nice session on the beach with Stewy as well, that's heaven. See you soon. Geoff.
  3. Hi BFB I had dura hubs fitted to my boat trailer two years ago and i,m very happy with them. Ring me on 0407221690 and have a chat. Geoff.
  4. Hi Raiders, I must be excited about sundays soft plastics day. I have had some success catching flathead on s/p but hope to improve and catch other species. Last night I dreamt I was walking along the edge of a lake or river bank, there was a weed bed about six metres out from where I was standing and as I was looking around a flathead came swimming out and wriggled up onto the sand in front of me. It looked like a crocodile laying in the sun. With my s/p tied to the end of my line I dangled it in front of the flathead, it grabbed the s/p and headed back into the water [ is this legal] with the drag screaming I fought and landed it a couple of minutes later. As I was looking and admiring my catch I saw it's mate stick it's head out of the weeds and head towards me, then I woke up and realized it was a dream.[Hurry up sunday] I'm off to Port Stephens in febuary, maybe I'll dream about marlin tonight. Have any other Raider's had a dream about fishing laterly? Geoff.
  5. Hi Donna, sorry to hear your in hospital. Doctors and nurses are a dedicated breed and they will have you back on deck soon. I'm sure Stewy will be looking after you. GET WELL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON. Geoff.
  6. Thank you for all your kind wishes. Lyn gave me 2 coffee mugs each with my trout on them.
  7. Thanks Roberta and Ceph. Details can be found here Brown Trout
  8. 22/5/08 - Thursday morning six of us walked the Thredbo River from the bridge to the dam. All but one caught fish about 12 varied sizes. One Brook Trout and all the others were Brown Trout with the largest being my Brown Trout below. I caught my PB Brown Trout (orange colour) and a smaller trout. Both fish were caught between 10am and 11am on Squidgie Wriggles 80mm Rainbow Trout pattern. 24/5/08 - Saturday morning seven of us set out in three boats on Lake Jindabyne and headed to the Snowy and Thredbo arm. My brother Warren caught his personal best a nice Brown Trout (female finished spawning) on a minnow in the Thredbo arm before lunch. I caught my NEW PB a Brown Trout 74.5cm, 9.5lb (male) trolling a Squidgie Fish 60mm Rainbow Trout pattern in about 6 metres of water. It jumped about 5 times and had a couple of good runs. Thanks Stewy for the tip about the Squidgies
  9. Just a quick post from Jindabyne. Walked the river yesterday and caught the smaller trout about 10 am and then upgraded at 11am released both for another day. Both were caught on a rainbow squidgey. The Lake was very quiet today. Hopefully better tomorrow.
  10. Hi Dave, I use a deep cycle battery,115 a/h. Using the e/m at different speeds it lasted about 5hrs. Geoff.
  11. Thanks Steve, The setup is very strong, it did the job at Lake Lyell on sunday. The chopping board material is great to work with, all s/s hardware, no corrosion. Geoff.
  12. Thanks crazedfisherdude I only use the electric motor for trolling or casting lures so other than those times I remove it. I leave the mounting plate in position and I can still use the anchor and bow roller without a problem. Geoff
  13. Thank's Dave, there were a few proto types before the final product, made of ply wood. Very time consuming. How are the electrics going on the poly? geoff.
  14. Hello Raiders, Dalucius and I arrived at the lake at about 7.15am, temp. 4deg. and a light frost. Our main objective was to give mini [our minn kota] it's first official run since I installed it's permanent mounting bracket ready for our trout fishing trip to Jindabyne in mid may. We started trolling just out from the boat ramp, with a pink tassie on my rod [ I'm using lead-core line today] and a #48 red nosed brown bomber on Lyn's. Things were slow, changed lures, tried different speeds without any luck. I tied on a brown trout pattern diving lure and about 11am. our first fish was in the boat [ that one's for my mother in-law].By now the wind was up and blowing us around, mini was doing a good job pulling us into the head wind. We headed back when we reached the old road at the end of the dam. Just past Farmers creek, I'm on again, and after a nice fight Dalucius nets another nice rainbow [ that one's going in the smoker]. Not long after that the battery went flat so we head back to the ramp. An excellent day on the water, two nice fish, mini did the job, were ready for Jindabyne. Geoff
  15. We have a Savage Ranger 4.8 and wanted to mount a MinnKota electric motor for freshwater fishing. Everyone we talked to said we would have to cut the bow rail. Well that wasn't going to happen so I came up with this little invention. If anyone wants to ask me anything about the mounting feel free to pm me or place a post.
  16. Thank's Raider's, for your kind words and i.d. of the type of leather jacket. I can't wait until I hook up to a legal size kingfish. Bring it on. Geoff.
  17. Hi Raiders Bright and early on Sunday, Dalucius, Targab, Amy and myself put the boat in at Tunks Park and headed off to Balmoral to get some bait. After getting some live bait we headed out and had a fish around some of the markers with no success so we moved and tried a few different spots. We ended up at Shark Island after a short time Targab and Amy had a double hookup. Unfortunately, Amy sighted her flathead which spat the hook as it approached the boat and Targab no sooner sighted his fish and said 'wow nice flattie' and was bitten off. We thought we would try the drift again and my reel started to 'scream'. The way it took off I realised it might be my first kingfish. After a few runs and much excitement it was netted and in the boat. We took a few pictures, measure it 60cm and it was back in the harbour to fight another day. Here is a link to the video if you want to have a look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIJj78HVQd8 Can't wait to catch a legal size Kingfish. Also caught this fish not real sure if it is a leatherjacket. Maybe someone could please ID it for me. Ended up going home with no fish but had a great day.
  18. Thanks Ross, you beat me to it. I didn't think i was that much of a cradle snatcher. Geoff.
  19. Hi Brian, we went in from baraba, there was a property out towards mount kapatu called travellin, not sure of the spelling. We camped beside the road near the creek on the property on the baraba side of travellin. with the farmers permission. We would roam the hillsides for hours, very steep hills, but i loved it. geoff. Hi Roberta, how's that fish measure going, hope it's had plenty of use. The call of the sea couldn't be any better than your backyard, good to hear from you. See you again one day. Geoff.
  20. Hi brian, it's great to see decent rain again, it's raining right now ,love the sound. I also did a lot of rabbit shooting in the late 60's on a property out towards mount kaputa. Geoff.
  21. Hi Brian, it brings back memory's of my first murray cod i caught just below the weir at Manilla back in the late 60's, i also caught my first fresh water cat fish there, it gave me a great fight. That's great looking country up that way. Good looking cod, enjoy. Go the spinner baits. Geoff.
  22. Hi Johnno, got to love those industry RDO's, can't think of a better way to spend the day, fishing with soft plastics and with good company. Great day's fishing Stewy and Johnno. Love to watch and listen to the planes as well, it fills in time between strikes. geoff.
  23. I like to put a couple of coats of varnish on my new fishing rods if they have a cork grip. I find this helps to keep them looking like new and stops them getting dirty. I find it does't effect my grip of the rod while fishing. Just rinse off with water. cheers. Geoff.
  24. We launched at Gladesville ramp about 2.30am and headed down the harbour. Called into Circular Quay and had a look at the Queen Victoria ocean liner WOW looked spectacular with all its lights on. Off to Balmoral to get some livies and watched the QE2 come in the heads it looked fantastic all lit up. It was like Pitt St trying to get the livies as boats kept arriving and it became very crowded. We met up with the Raiders at Clifton Gardens to sign in and have a bacon and egg roll. A HUGE thanks to the organisers and helpers. We started fishing Middle Head only to have our braided lines bitten off above the swivel as a school of fish passed under us, didn't even feel a bite. "What the...?" Tailor I presume. Fished a few of the structures/markers with no luck so moved into Middle Harbour at the drop off. First drift and Dalucius was on . After a few good runs on her new TLD25 reel and rod (gotta love that sound) she landed a Kingy just 2cm short of legal so back in the water. Thought we would try a few more drifts and my reel was screaming. To my surprise it wasn't a Kingy but a 76cm Jewfish WOOOHOOOO who said banana's were bad luck we had 4 onboard. I bagged him for dinner. Things went quiet for a while so we headed back and tried a few other spots with no luck so headed back to Clifton Gardens. After leaving there we headed over to check out the QE2 then on the way back to the ramp we had a fish behind Goat Island. Dalucius reel was off again with a nice little Jewfish a quick picture and back in the water. What a great day we had on our beautiful harbour. Thanks again to Fishraiders for all their hard work. Geoff
  25. Thank you for your wishes everyone. We all went out for dinner last night to finish off another birthday. Back to work next week after 2.5 months ahhhh, don't know how I'll do it.
