  1. Hello Jani, you have had a very busy 2011. Young Vili is growing fast and it's good to be home to support Saija and watch him grow, cherish this time, because it wont be long before he's a young man. Lyn and I wish you and your family a merry christmas and happy new year. Good luck in your new job application and I will see you when you come down under next time. Geoff.
  2. That's great news Steve, congratulations to you, your wife and the boy's on a great catch. Did you use a floating or sinking lure? all the best to you all.
  3. Thanks guys for the comments, that silver perch hit hard and put up a good fight. Bring on 2012. Geoff.
  4. Lyn and I arrived about 1.30 pm on Sunday and met up with fellow raider's who had already settled into their bungalow and were rigging their rods ready for the afternoon's fishing. We decided we wouldn't fish until Monday morning, so set about unpacking and settling in, rigging rods and just taking it easy. The others got back just on dark and they all caught fish, telling us where the fish were and what was the go to lure and colour. After a good feed, cooked up by Smithy, and a few fishing stories we called it a night. We all hit the water early and headed off in search of some fish. We had a slow start and it wasn't until the afternoon session that we caught a few decent bass. On Tuesday we got onto a few fish, I caught my PB yellow belly @ 43cm which hit hard on a purple spinner bait while casting around the trees in the bay where the second concrete ramp is. Two other fish came to the boat following my fish but nicked off when they saw us. About an hour later I caught my PB silver perch @ 48cm on the same spinner bait around tall timber on the other side of the same bay. The weather wasn't on our side this year with wind and rain cutting our trip short. We tried a few surface lures with no success this year. Thanks to Stewy and Smithy for doing the shopping on Saturday before we left, we ate like kings. It was good to see Johnno again and meet Steve for the first time, hope you come again next year to keep Stewy on his toes. Also to Pete [ tide n knots], your keener than me to fish in those conditions, hope you got on to the fish after we left. Thanks again for the company, until Glenbawn 2012, see you there, hope the weather is better. Lyn and Geoff.
  5. I was lucky enough to be on a charter aboard Reef Magic on wednesday hoping to catch one of those big tuna that I have been reading about. Our charter arrived right on time 9am at Rose Bay ferry wharf and we were greeted by Captain Mike and deckhand Dave, two very likeable lads. The weather was perfect as we headed out thru Sydney heads and I got to chat with the other fishermen Steve, Matt, Lee and swordie who I haven't seen since the entrance social. We did a bit of jigging around the 12 mile with the other boys landing a few kingfish, I'll leave that style of fishing to the younger guys. We headed out wider with a spread of lumo pushers and two purple bibless lures on the troll, we saw a few whales breaching in the distance and a couple of pods of dolphins on the move. Swordie and I were on strike on the portside with the other guys on starboard side and shotgun. We were trolling along for awhile enjoying the day when all of a sudden one of the big 50's on the portside started screaming, the next thing I knew I was being harnessed up with the big 50 in my hands and I was ON. The fish pulled hard and swam deep and with guidance from Swordie it was soon alongside the vessel where decky Dave gaft it and dragged it onboard. I wasn't expecting a fish like that, 25 kg's, I was stoked. :1clap: High fives all round and every one was ready for more. We went wider lunching on a great spread supplied by Captain Mike and drinks from the ice box. We managed another 8 kg yellowfin before we started cubing in a nice patch of water Mike found on the way out and every now and then he would tell the boys to drop thier jigs down when fish appeared on the sounder resulting in a few albacore being hooked. It was starting to get dark when Mike headed home, he doesn't hold back on the throttle, it was a 2hr trip back to Rose Bay wharf so we took time to reflect on the day and relax. Mike and Dave made the day, informing us of their plans of attack and making sure we had everything we wanted,I recommend all raider's to take a charter on Reef Magic. Thanks for a great day out and good company and thanks Swordie for the phone call and putting me on that fish. Geoff.

  24. Hi Raider's. The other day when I was in an auto shop I saw a product used to increase the life of a battery. It states "when lead acid batteries are in use, a soft spongy film of lead sulphate forms on the plates [sulphation]. Batteries go dead when this film hardens and clogs plates and separators". I wonder if anyone has used it and if so, what's your thoughts? Geoff.
