  1. I've got a bit of a rat problem. Supermarket traps aren't working and they're eating rat poison like candy. What other methods could i use that is commonly found in a home to trap these critters?

  2. I've never had any problems with any brand of braid in regards to wind knots. My cause of wind knots when i started was leader size. As you go up in leader size, your knots have to change with it. As leaders gets thicker, the knots get bigger. When you cast, these knots hit the guide which temporarily stops but the trailing line is coming off which causes slack and its this slack that gets caught around the guides. Either let out enough line so your knot is not in the guides or choose a knot that is streamlined. Or get rods with Fuji K-guides. Their design is to rid of wind knots and it works!

I've always stuck with braid and not gelspun. Its much smoother and it digs less into the spool. Thats my experience anyways

  3. Hmm could this be the unofficial increase as a result of the carbon taxing? :biggrin2:

    100% Correct!

My local coffee shop will raise their prices tomorrow because the price of milk has gone up from their supplier. They read an article saying that gov't will fine those who blame price increases due to carbon tax so they blamed the cows for producing too much greenhouse gaese from methane :biggrin2:

  4. Seeing that no one knows absolutely anything about it. I'll let you know what i think about it then.

I needed a rod tube for overseas travel and i wanted something off the shelf. I thought about going PVC but i've seen tragic endings to expensive rods from others who have trusted PVC. (Also, i was lazy to make one as well :1prop: )

I looked at Nature Boys as i haven't heard or read anything negative about it but i thought it wasn't worth it as 60% of the cost goes towards shipping. I looked at Carmate, Flambeau etc and they've all had some degree of negativity. Then i looked at Plano. They have several sizes but i decided to with the largest one. Check plano website for specs. I chose this because it felt quite strong. My gf and two nieces sat on it altogether once and it didn't bend. I liked the wheels too. Trust me they were handy when you have to walk to one end of the airport to check-in and then walk back to other to send bulk luggage thru (pointing fingers at AKL aiport!!!). I also liked it because knowing i would never need to fully extend the tube, the inner tube acted as extra support. The tube is pretty heavy though. I think it weighs about 5kg when empty. I had five rods and clothing to act as further support, which came to abt 10kg.

It's completely lockable, one lock has been taped up with gaffer tape, this is to lock it to the length you want. It comes with a pin but its not secure. If you take the pin out, the inner tube can be taken out and then anyone can have free access to the rods. The 2nd lock is on the lid itself, the elastic you see is when you open the lid, the lid stays connected so you won't lose it

Its been on 3 trips so far and each time it only came back with minor scratches. On my last trip though, i noticed a line a never saw before and it formed where it took a heavy knock. Not an expert but you can see for yourself in the photo. I hope this line doesn't cause any damage to the tube in future.

With a bit of haggling, this tube came to $180, which is small change considering the cost of quality rods these days.

  5. My paranoia got the better of me and took it straight to Daiwa. It was the clutch that was making the reel quite noisy. Had the clutch swapped out for another one.

Didn't get the name who helped me but he did a great job and made everything the way the reel is supposed to be. Now i'm satisfied!

  6. I know the following question is going to be the same as asking how long is a piece of string, but i'm going to ask anyways.

If you have the latest edition of Saltigas, do you think your Saltiga is quiet?

I've never noticed this before because i've alwasy used my saltiga in a noisy environment. But i was using it in quiet room the other day and i can hear a gear noise or whirring noise. This is opposite to what i've read in reviews and also Daiwa's web page. Whilst the operation is still very smooth, the noise is noticeable as i wind the handle.

I do believe mechanical parts can never be silent but do you think yours is as quiet as Daiwa's claim?

    Maybe i'm just paranoid!

  7. I can probably help you Scotty. I trade futures myself but if you give me an idea what you're looking for I can probably point you in the right direction.

boattart: i'm trading currencies but i look for the usual. tight spreads, good trading platform and most importantly doesn't lag on trades. hate losing a pip or two when making scalp trades.

    Gday Mate,

Ive been with Go Markets since 2008. I also have accounts with Pepperstone

Ive just started trading on the Pepperstones Raw account. Spreads are fantastic, usually around 0.5 of a pip on average,

Feel free to PM me you like

BalmianBob: Pepperstone website looks great but how are you finding them with your trading?

  8. I'm searching for an Australian Brokerage firm for forex trading and i was wondering if anyone has experience with an Australian firm?

Reason i'm asking here is brokers keep their eye on all financial forums and place fake reviews! I thought the best place to ask would be outside these forums

  9. Its real name is Black Rabbitfish. Its not a true Trevally. Though they have some resemblance, guess thats why they're called Black Trevally. They're also called Happy Moments, don't know why and not willing to find out.

They have venom in their spines, hence not wanting to handle them.

This bad boy was caught from Dee Why. Lately there have been a few around the area but none this big.

  10. A late report and probably not even worth while but this could be for the FR record.

2 weeks ago i was fishing off Dee Why rocks for drummer. It was a long morning. No bites except from leatheries and pickers. Then suddenly i felt a hard pull thinking finally got a drummer and feeling very happy. Well happy alright! Got myself one of the largest happy moments i've seen. The knife measures 36cm so i guess its just under 39cm. Wasn't going to get my brag mat to measure it properly. It was one of the biggest disappointmnet that day. It was caught on peeled prawn. I cut the line over water and let it go.

That was it for the rest of the session. Not a drummer could be found that morning...not even a juvie.

  11. They're actually not bad. Whilst i didn't need any servicing or repairs, i was questioning the drag ratings on some reels i bought in Japan. They said to take it down to Taren Point and have it tested. So they were testing out my reels and happily showed me how to how to achieve those published figures. Hearing from others they won't service reels bought from overseas so i wasn't hoping for much. But i was surprised they were willing to help

  12. Will be going to NZ for a kingfish and snapper fishing trip. Is fishing tackle cheaper over there? Especially metal jigs. I'm not really keen in carrying too many jigs in my luggage. I want to get my own jigs just in case the charter will try to rip me off.

PM me if you know some of the good stores. I'll be flying in and out from Auckland.
