  1. Top fish mate!! Good on you!!!
  2. Bragg away mate you deserve to!!!
  3. Goldfish - I certainly am no expert on Jewies, never caught one in my life. It may be worth anchoring up there one warm summers evening and try for the elusive Jewie. I would have been happy with a nice big flatty instead of those pesky raysharks. Belligero - If I do anchor up near the bridge I will remember the lights. I have 3 on the boat. Sounds like you had a nice day at Lobster. It's a beatiful little spot there. Water is very clear. You did well catching all those bream. What bait were you using mate?
  4. I was on the right side of the bridge on the ocean side at around 8-10 am. You can't miss me. The boat has a new blue canopy. I was on my own in the morning. Give me shout if you see me again.
  5. Yeah I was surprised also. I have read many reports about Jewfish being caught under the rip bridge. I will definitely be giving it another go. I have also read that whilst targeting jewies it isn't uncommon to catch raysharks.
  6. Here is my second attempt to upload the photo!
  7. Good session there mate! Nice to see someone is pulling them in!!! Congrats!!!
  8. Gday raiders, Well I put the boat in a bit later than I wanted to this morning and headed over to the rip bridge. I couldn't believe how deep the water is there. My sounder was measuring 110ft deep. I ended up hanging there for about a couple of hours and caught another bloody ray shark. This one was over 1 metre long. I let him loose cause I was hoping for a big Jewie or flathead. So far every time I catch one of these I don't end up having much luck for the rest of the session. I ended up taking the grand kids for a cruise around the bays. Still had a good day on the water. There is always next time!!!
  9. Hi mate, I am getting it mounted next Friday ready for the weekend and then I am off for a month so plenty of fishing to be had then. Cheers!!
  10. Nice catch mate!! I almost headed out this morning but thought there were going to be storms, lightning etc. Hoping for good weather in the AM!
  11. You might be right Tef1on, Insinc marine can put one in for around $200. The last thing I need is an EPIRB and hopefully that's it for a while. I think I put a pretty good argument to the missus on why I need a better fishfinder. Well it worked and this is my xmas pressie!! I hope it helps!!
  12. Thanks guys I think I might have a go at installing myself. Still waiting on Craig. BCF is $749 on special at the moment. 20% only applies to selected fishing items!!! Hoping the weather holds out for the morning. I will be heading out to ladders first and then, well not sure but somewhere off either Patonga or Lyon Island.
  13. Hi Raiders, I am in the process of looking to buy a new fishfinder/gps for my boat. I have a 4.5m bermuda coral island with a 60 hp 2 stroke merc. I like the look of the Lowrance Elite 5 CHIRP combo. I have made a few calls and got quotes for installation and it looks like $200 for the install and around $600 for the unit. What are your thoughts on the unit and price. Greg

    Kingies

No luck in Broken Bay on Saturday! We headed out from Pretty Beach and stopped at Ladders to get some yakkas. There were plenty of boats anchored and pulling in heaps of them. We stayed there for around 45 minutes and ended up with about a dozen good size yakkas in the live tank. We headed over to Lyon Island and anchored but all we could manage was to get caught on the reef and had to keep rigging up again. We decided to head out further and try our luck. The swell was around 1-1.5 mtr. We ended up stopping around 1km off Lyon and put out 1 yakka with no lead, 1 with lead and one under a balloon. I looked over at my daughter and she was starting to look a bit pale and as the day continues so did she continue to look worse. We probably sat there for another 30 minutes but it was time to head back to more settled water as the young one was starting to look green by now. It was still a great day on the water. Next time we will have to remember the motion sickness pills!! Does anyone know if they actually work?

    Kingies

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am set up with around 2 mtrs but I will cut the leader back to under 1 metre. I am using 40lb clear leader. Getting ready for Saturday morning. I will post how I went.

    Kingies

Just wondering everyone's thoughts on how long a leader should be for catching kingies!!
  17. Thanks guys I will get down to bcf and get set up for next weekend. I did get 1 big down on a livie. Gave me a good minute or so but snapped me off taking everything, the livie, trace, hook and sinker. Do you guys use sinkers with live yakkas?.
  18. Good catch mate! What are they like to eat? It sounds like there is a lot to know.
  19. Headed out this morning around 7am and dropped anchor to get a few yakkas with plenty of burley! Lost count of how many I hooked up. Also managed to pull quite a few tailor in the process. I also through a pilchard on a gang hook over while I was catching livies and ended up getting a nice 42cm flatty. Sorry no pics this time. I was just happy to catch a fish. The last 2 weeks all I have caught has been 2 shovel noses.Anyway, I had plenty of live ones onboard but even with changing the water every half an hour they were dying off pretty fast. Didn't really matter anyway as I didn't end up catching anything else. I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some tips on a live set up. What weight, line, should I use floats/balloons etc. At least I had a nice feed of crumbed tailor and flathead. Gotta remember to take photos before I clean them!! .
