  1. Im impressed landing any kingie on a 4lb line, Ive been busted off on a 4pd line by a yakka! That's unreal!
  2. Don't listen to that guy - line to line is how I catch all my kings - less knots mean less to go wrong in my opinion. I'd agree with the float though I like to get the livie down a bit as that seems to get a better hit rate. Great post, very entertaining.
  3. I was cruising in boat last week in same area - saw a very big shark fin, hung around in the hopes itd come back but didn't see it again - gotta say, it was enough to make me think twice about swimming around there.
  4. I'm loving jigging for the Kings at the moment - it's very effective but I've also got them on live bait too. If live bait just a 25pd leader with small sinker just enough to get fish down does the trick for me - I've got an old trusty rod (20yrs old) and a shimano seabull (4500), I've got 8 or so rod set ups but keep coming back to the old faithful. Will head out overnight this weekend so may see you out there - usually avoid weekend fish but only time we can swing it.
  5. Did you pick it up near Point Frederick??? I dropped one there about a year ago.... I went out solo during the week and had an unreal session - Caught Snapper, Kings, Jew and Flatties - all legal. Just took one of each for a feed for the family and a couple of friends. Had to move around a bit from Barrenjoey into Hawkesbury but had a blast. Went for a bush walk on Sat morning with a view to Maitland Bay Bombora - I don't like that place on a good day let alone the rough seas on Sat - sure gotta pick your days to fish that break, Im not totally sure the fishing is worth the risk with so many other good reefs within the same distance.
  6. Hi - I was out there yesterday too - awesome day - I got a nice mixed bag including kings, fatties, snapper and a nice jew - all legal. The trawlers were out in force - do you know what they are targeting or is it simply a 'free for all'... Did the squid come up chasing lures or did you have a squid jig out?
  7. Yup - look for the other 5 boats parked up there - there's no missing the yakka's or the boats if you are there before 10am in the morning.
  8. Great report again - you've clearly got yourself sorted. We're you out Thurs or are you strictly back to weekends? Do you anchor up for the flatties? I'll most likely be out this weekend so hopefully Ill see you on the water. Meg
  9. Thank you, Ill give it a go, Im presuming the South side of the channel?
  10. Where were you pulling in the squid, I'd love to get some inside BW.
  11. Ive got the same one I think Greg - its pretty strait forward but I would recommend playing around with the sensitivity so you can see the fish better. If you want another boat with you, happy to take mine out too, I fish there often.
  12. The area you are fishing are much more productive from Oct on so when fishing the cooler months it's a lot slower - have you ventured to the close reefs yet?
  13. How big did you estimate the Jewie to be?
  14. Looks good, Ill be out tomorrow around the area, hopefully having fish for dinner!
  15. Went out today, was very keen to try your suggestions....BUT... couldn't get a damn squid to save myself! So annoying when you have a plan and can't get the basics right. Saw a lot of big fishing crashing the surface in Pittwater today and even managed a number of garfish but just couldn't work out how to 'tow' them without killing them. I've heard garfish are great bait (and were a lot easier to catch than yakkas today).
  16. Thanks for that, I haven't got a down rigger so I'll give your suggestions a go!
  17. Great job Ed, I need some help - how do I learn to catch kingfish regularly????
  18. Amazing fish! Were you out from Sydney way? Would love some advice on the squid - did you keep them whole and down rig them live or would you recommend squid slabs? Congrats again, they look like a lot of fun!
  19. Good to see that the fatties are on - even better to know that the day paid for itself.... $110 worth of fish there! Hopefully I'll see you on the water one of these days Meg
  20. I use mine on continuous loop - that way it records a loop of a specified time - e.g. 20mins or 5mins or 60mins - when something good happens, you press the button and the last 20mins (etc) is copied over to the SD card. That way you dont need to use the wifi remote either - but yes, using the remote drains battery badly. I have a 12vlt charger on boat so hook it up to that, good for charging phones as well.
  21. So keen - 1 and a half days fishing done and THEN you still head back out for a nice flattie, great job guys!
  22. Great work, well done guys, not hearing of many people getting into the Kings so that is very cool. LOVED the squid - you'd be having squid rings for weeks!!! Mmmm salt n pepper squid........
  23. Awesome - can anyone tell me if calamari are seasonal or all year round?
  24. Well done - Always nice to see a Jew! What beach is that?
  25. Yeah, the other boat that got 'told off' told them where to go, if I had known the law at the time I would have very politely told them to mind their own business, mind you, being a lady I did feel quite intimidated. Still, I think a call into maritime is the go, they should know that these guys are out there being d'heads.
