  1. Great read! Being a lady, I can interpret "Fine" for you - what it really means is - "if you are stupid enough to even ask this question, my response will be fine - you will go and have your fun and THEN, from this moment on, I reserve the right to bring this up during any future arguments where I want to get my own way, from you picking up the kids, to me going on a week long pamper trip to Fiji with my friends....Henceforth, I OWN YOU". So.... beware, my gentlemen friends, danger lurks when a lady says "fine".
  2. Hi, Just after some advice on downriggers. I want to get one (like the idea of a Scotty but not really sure why...). Will be using it solo most of the time, Im wanting it to last me a looong time so happy to pay whatever I need to for the right set up. It will be used broken bay way mostly for Kingfish on a Barcrusher 615. Any thoughts on what would be a good purchase? Manual Vs Electric?
  3. Im in the same position - Having had the last boat for nearly 2 years, it just wasn't allowing me to do what I wanted it too. I fish a lot (usually 2x per week), it is my passion, my sanity and makes me a better wife and mother cause I get to have time for myself, Im not simply the cook, cleaner etc. So, with an incredibly supportive husband, Im waiting for the brand new boat to be delivered. It is an investment of sorts - just not financial, but there are different types of investments. If your priority is financial security - get a house and don't look back! Having a family, the house had to come first for us, but after doing that, the boat was a close second. Of course, it is a decision that can be relatively easily undone (just at some cost).
  4. Ha ha ha!! Sorry, Im married to the near perfect man... only serious flaw is that he doesn't like fishing, but he's happy for me to get my very own Bar Crusher, so Ive kept him anyway.
  5. Agggrrhhhmmm, did I say 57, I meant 77cm.... See, clearly I still have stuff to learn!
  6. HI Witha, Measured about 57cm so just a little 'un and makes me think if I did get a metre king I'd be in trouble if I was solo!
  7. Congrats, I can only dream of that one day... Where you North of the harbour?
  8. Love it when a plan comes together! After not fishing for nearly 20 years (and any fishing I did was in NZ) I was keen to get back into it but boy, have things changed. Ive have always wanted to get a KingFish since I was a kid until yesterday, its never happened. Set out from Gosford at 6:30am and tried a quick troll around Lion Island with a new Xwrap but didnt manage to get a score on the board. Saw my mate Ron, who kindly told me not to bother with squidding as they are super hard to get AND the kingies are happily munching on the Yakkas. So half an hour later we had a nice bucket and headed off to Barrenjoey headland. Put down a livey and thought we'd drift for a few flatties. Picked up a baby flattie (they are always babies there), next thing, the livie rod starts bouncing around and I heard a little squeek from the livie which sounded like "oh bugger"... then the rod buckles over. Im not super strong, so getting it out of my holder was even a bit of an effort. The power of this thing was incredible for a lass like me. The fish took dives, darted here and there and the sound of the braid coming from the reel was very cool. Finally, up it came. We moved on after that as my fishing buddy turned a strange green colour, personally, I was on cloud 9 and havent come back down. Now, I know its no 1m+ kingie, however, its a dream come true for me. That was yesterday and I still cannot stop thinking, smiling, laughing and all night long, dreaming about it... The best part was that no one taught me, no one held my hand, it was me trying different things and teaching myself, for some reason, it just makes it even sweeter. Pick up new boat in another month (Barcrusher 615) and cant wait to get back out and do it all over again.
  9. what beach did you pick up the worms from? I'd love to learn how to do it, next time you go, would you mind me tagging along?
  10. Methylated spirits - any hardware store will stock it.
  11. Brilliant writing and an insight into the mind - oh, and a laugh! Fishing alone means you can do what you want, when you want and there's no one to contradict or interrupt your thoughts - sounds pretty good to me Loved your post and the starfish!
  12. Doesn't sound trivial - my Dad taught me to fish, he was tragically taken by the sea nearly 20 years ago - when I fish I feel closer to him. Fishing does have amazing healing powers for sure!
  13. Nice bream there - the flatties are in their numbers around the brisbane waters! Have fun getting into a few
  14. Up at Swansea yesterday and they were swimming 10m down to get bait. Sharp claws and beaks makes them a pain to get off.

  17. Are you boat or land based? Between the two bridges Ive found some success but you need a boat.
