  1. Seeing Parra council has drained the river to build the fish ladders (Does any one have any thoughts on the new fish ladder's they are building in the Parra river)and wiped out all the carp I had two alternatives one walk 500 metres up the road to chase carp or 2. pester the bream in the salt water session underneath parra weir. Being the lazy bugger I decided to take the shorter option and walk down to the saltwater side of the weir. Armed with a handful of lures smilin jacks, SX40's, 35mm scorpians and outback australis minnows (not my usual corn & bread)On my third cast this lil bream hit my lure Followed by a coupla of other little fella's. The lure that did the most damage was the pink smiling jack and a brown australis minnow.
  2. It really depends on the size of the mullet you are using. The average mullet I would use would be around 10 cm the way I would rig em would be by using a running sinker rig to a 60 cm trace then to a size size 1/0 suicide hook (If your using larger poddies you will have to use bigger hook's)and hook them around the mouth with the hook facing up. That way there your mullet will usually swim head down (I find this makes a huge difference with flatties) If you catch any hardy head's while you are after the poddies dont' dis-regard them I find they are a much better bait then the poddies and the bream will often get on the act as well with them.
  3. G'day Deano, The way I normally fish for carp is to really berley the water up with a bit of bread and fish really light (2lb - 8 lb usually 4 lb ) line to a size 8 hook and with a bit of bread or corn. When I fish for them i try to hide from the fish as they are very finnicky (worse then bream) I fish the line with no weight and leave the spool open (using a thread line reel) and let the carp take the bait for a metre or so before striking. I hope this help =)
  4. I heard that trumpeter are mean't to be a good live bait for flathead. I haven't tried them my self but what I was told was that if you bait them live on the bottom they make that grunting sound and that attracts the flatties.
  5. Went down this arvo to kill some time down on the Parra River after some carp. After waiting and berleying up for 20 minutes my bread baitwas guzzled by what I thought was a small carp. It was too my surprise that this eel-tailed tanadus catfish appeared, it was around 35 cm which was promptly released. I've been fishing this stretch of river for a year(between the Parra weir and Church St) on a pretty regular basis and this is the first time I've seen one of these fella's before. I was very surprised to see one as I only expected to catch carp in this water. Has any one caught any odd-ball's like this on this stretch before?
