  1. That's an excellent point =) Hopefully the mexicans(Victorians) will see it from this perspective. Murray cod will be alot more impressive for em to brag about rather then their lil pinkies and gummies in PPB and Westernport
  2. Does any one know of any reliable sources of fresh mullet gut aka tug tullem. We use to get it from the Fish Coop in Nelsons Bay and use to get alot of good fish on it from the breakwall but it seems hard to source in Sydney. The frozen stuff that you get in tackle shops does not seem to be as good as the fresh stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  3. There are quite a few spots along the shoreline of the Parra river that are holding jewies at this time of the year. Look for places where there are alot of mullet or sand flats close to deep holes. Lure wise look at 3 inch shrimps such as atomic prong's or gulp shrimps or 4 inch + soft plastic minnow's and shads
  4. We went out last Friday and some of the locals mentioned that the pros got all the way into McCarr Creek. We got some squid but they were really shy we only got 3 all on lumo squid jigs
  5. Tassie Devil 7 gm in pink with black stripes fished very slowly on muddy/sandy bottoms works well for whiting, flatties and bream.
  6. I've had a Shimano BTR 6500 and a Penn Spinfisher 9500 SS (US made ones) since 1995 and I swear by both of them. They are both fantastic reels. Both reels have been absolutely faultless and I would recommend either. I have caught my fair share of jewies, kingies and noah's on both with out fault. I have recently added another BTR 6500 to my collection. If you are worried about the drag on the BTR 6500I would recommend you update to the carbon washers on them. It's a cheap investmen. As far as the Okuma go I haven't tried the baitrunners yet but I have owned the Epix and Metaloid range and regret not spending the premium for a better reel.
  7. I'd have to agree with you on carp been great fun on light gear they go absolutely insane. I reckon they fight harder lb for lb then a lot of other fish and they'd easily pull a jewie backwards. Then again jewies in my experience are over-rated
  8. Very very very nice jewie. well done =)
  9. Nice jewie,hopefully that'll be the first of many=)
  10. Apart from a few weeks ago where we got 3 haven't seen many bream in Parra.
  11. Hey Jewgaffer That ain't a big jewie hint is it. LOL =) Jewies have got to be the worst bream by-catch. Nothing better then hooking on to a fish only to fine out its too big to be a breamski
  12. It really depends on what you are after if you are chasing bream you'll get more smaller strips then say if your fishing for jewies. What works best for me is to cut the strips into triangles. Place a single hook once at the tapered end of the of the strip once that way you've got a better hook up rate. With squid heads in and out once. Don't fall in to the trap of weaving your hook in and out as the current will skew your bait.
  13. Hey Les Did it look like this? A lil trumpeter? http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/psexlin.htm
  14. Hey mate, congrats on your first fish on plastics and your impending softplasticitis infection. The next symptom is a rapidly decreasing bank balance
  15. Yiiikes!! I didn't think they'd be golden's in Manly Dam. Then again I didn't think you'd get silvers in the Parra River and I got one a few weeks ago. http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=25169
  16. Awesome stuff =) they are also an awesome fish to have in an aquarium.
  17. On the other side of the dam wall opposite the car park theres some lily's there and there are some bass and redfin around . Some of the people I've talked to who fish down there reckon there are trout and silver perch in there. I haven't fish there for a looong time (in the days when plastics were Mr Twisters and scroungers) we use to fish celtas and tassie devils but i'm sure small plastics would be the go
  18. Any advice on how to rig these unweighed. I've tried fishing them with the gamakatsu worm hooks but the hook up rate is really poor but I get a lot more hits then when I have an ultra light jig head on em. Trying a single hook, resin jighead or a drop shot hook the action is skewed and it often circles and glides upside downon the retrieve. Thanks in advance for any help =)
  19. It would make sense and it should be law. Few years ago we had some problems with imported pilchards from the US been imported to feed the tuna in the tuna pens. What ended up happening was a virus got into the wild and obliterated local pilchard stocks. Hopefully they do the same with the prawns as having these imported prawns from Asia is a biohazzard waiting to happen if they were to be used as bait.
  20. Has any one tried carolina rigging the gulp worms. With the hook in the middle of the worm?
  21. Hey Les, Your talking more abouts landbased spinning and for your kind of tackle really the more feasible options are flatties, jewies and kingies. You'd be looking at fishing retaining walls, rockwalls and wharves around the harbour been Sydney based. Jighead wise try to keep your jigheads as light as possible 9 grams in my opinion is a bit to heavy if your fishing land based. Personally I like the TT jigheads that have the weight towards the middle of the jighead as it allows the lure to sink horizontally. (Very similar in theory to the Nitro Torpedo jigheads unfortunately you don't get them in the 2/0 plus sizes...) Lure wise your looking at 4 to 6 inch lures shad type lures. The ones mentioned like the jerkshad, gulp 4 inch minnows, larger bass minnows etc are ideal. As far as metals go you can't go any thing with in your rod casting range should be fine. With metal lures I've never found one better then the other its more about matching the size of your lure to what the fish are feeding on. Hope this help
  22. Thanks, it didn't fight to hard thought I had a tiny carp on the line until I saw it
  23. It's was near there. Yep it was a bit of a surprise.
  24. Caught this lil perch around the corner from my place which chasing carp on plastics. I'd estimate it went around 2 lb and 30 cm. It was caught on a 2 inch on a poo eater on a 1/32 jig head and went back home hopefully to terrorize some carp fingerlings
  25. G'day Try a Razor Back lure, they have got spikes on their back and work well
