Hey Raiders, they were caught using tiny green hooks like the ones for blackfish with no float or sinker, i did put a larger swivel on to get the bait just under the top of the surface. All caught on my xfactor squid rod with 8lb leader. I did put one out as a livey but no takers yesterday and last night fried about 4 for the wife and i, now i think my wifes found one of her new favorite fish to eat.. they were beautiful, soughter kinda like whiting.. yummy
Thanks Mischief. So, did you use common 6 or 8 blackfish hook size or dropped to 10 or 12 size?

Thank you again Volitan and krause.
What HB or SP lures would you suggest for a quick fishing sessions in that area? Is it worth to take a fly rod?
-
Definitely time was not wasted!
Did you catch them under float? What hook size did you use?
-
I am not an expert here at all. However I read at least 2 times recently that Cats stability would be equivalent of 1.3 length of single hull boats which should it make 4.6m Cat with more powerful engine - potentially usable in offshore.

Andrea, check first if you bought a spinning rod or overhead rod (with small guides for overhead reels like TLD15).
If you are not sure - post the rod model here and we will check.

Thanks. So, what bait worked for Jewies?

Yeah I was quoting the max drag on a stradic not the line strength ?
It's surprising how light you can go on a kayak......so long as you are willing to be dragged about ? Those guys who fish marlin/swordfish on yaks on 30lb line and 20kg drag getting towed 2km out, battling for 2-3 hours are bloody crazy......it's on my bucket list
I would like to experience one day the same . Though may be I will get a larger sea anchor first , or may be two.

10kg or so drag on the stradic, 100kg or so Yak and load so drag of about 30kg plus the drogue so I'm guessing 50kg plus drag?
Lungfai76, the line was only 10 lb which is <5kg (may be a bit higher if braid).
Krause, thanks, I understand that reel drag setting is not so important here due to Yak dragging.

Very nice photos and report indeed! Happy smiles, and the sharks look like you woke them up in the middle of the night.

The other point is that some of those bigger fish would not be so good to eat anyway.
My wife says younger/smaller flatties taste way better, while size/age does not impact bream taste.

6 jewies! Well done.
Bait or lures? Boat or land-based?

Really?! Can you use bream as bait and in high tide? Wow ..... I didn't know that!
I meant - same bait as you would use for bream.

Excellent and very interesting report. Thanks for sharing your experience.
2.5m Hammerhead on 10lb line looks rather challenging. How tight was the reel drag?
-
High tide, bream's bait, night, even no burley - works for me.

Thank you very much, Volitan. Is it worth trying those small lakes near the river at Upper Colo e.g. Gospers Lagoon?
I am also considering Dunns Swamp. Did anyone fish there recently?

HI All,
Just wondering if you could share some suggestions for land based fishing in/near Wollemi NP with easy access from the road. Is it worth to consider?
Thanks,

Congrats Jon! You must be a very proud Dad.

Thanks for video. How many "casts" have you done?
-
- Tell us what is your current tackle setup and may be you will get more suggestions.
- Colder year season usually means less action in the water.
- Try fishing early in the morning or late evening/night.
- Try fishing near the structure (bridges, wharfs, rocks etc) and in the gutters as they hold more fish.
- Not sure what you meant by 'regular worms'. Live Beach/Blood worms are very very good bait. I had no much luck with earth worms in salt water.
-
I saw only good reviews about Bait n Go stuff in the past, and purchased once glow worms for the weekend night fishing in estuary. I had a chance to use them for one fishing session, however did not catch anything. I added some water to the soil with worms as it looked too dry for me, and by the next weekend it was a mess in the box. So, if you want to use them - stick to the instructions.

Thanks everyone!

Nice catch, mate!
Lures or bait?

G'day Mike, usually cut pilchards into 3 or 4 pieces and toss them into the wash.
Neil, how often?
What is JDM product?

After recent browsing of several Shimano websites, I am getting confused what is JDM product e.g. rod or reel.
I know what JDM stands for. However, in your, opinion, when the product is JDM and when it is not JDM?
Thanks,
