  4. Congrats on the PB, Steve Those ravenous buggers never cease to amaze me with their appetite! Hodgey
  5. Pretty rare to find around here too. Have seen the occasional one in the 'set of three' box. I am 'liaising' with clients from Bermagui to Batemans Bay tomorrow so I will see what I can find for you and let you know, mate.
  6. G'Day Iceman We used two types of poppers. Saturday I was using a new Bushy popper (50mm in Bushy's Favourite color, and that is what I caught the first whiting on. After that I changed to the cheap Sure Catch poppers with the trebles upgraded with Owner hooks. Dene was using these ones on both days. The color is a translucent yellow color. There is a reasonably clear shot of it in Dene's photo of the breambo. Hodgey Hope to see you on the water! Stewy is a terrific guide and a great bloke. He is definitely no stranger to BIG flatties! Water in the lake and most of the river system is still a bit cold, but if you hunt out the real shallow stuff in some of the little bays (especially those with thick weed banks) you should have some great popper sessions. It is very hot at the moment so I anticipate the water temp will improve quickly now. Good luck mate! Hodgey
  7. Nice feed of Flatties there fellas ... Well done! Hodgey
  8. Well done, Marty! You have been finding them consistently now ... only a matter of time before one of those 50+cm brutes falls foul of your lure! Hodgie
  9. Great feed of fish there Warnie Great shot of that nobby-headed bloke as well. Top effort Hodgie
  10. G'Day all Saturday found Dene and I chasing Flathead once again, but as stated in previous posts, they have gone quiet at the moment. Basically, we caught three in 6 hours and none of them were real exciting. (our worst performance in many months ) Undeterred, we tied on a couple of poppers and went exploring some VERY skinny water. Dene was working the popper for bream and I was targetting whiting. *BANG! The popper is absolutely creamed by what turned out to be a whiting roughly 38cm. A promising start! Entered another little stretch of water and then the fun and games began! The water was teeming with bream of all sizes and our little poppers were slurped at, bumped, kissed and down-right smashed for a good hour and a half. Staying connected to the buggers was another issue but we still managed four very good bream. Sunday afternoon we decided to head back to the same place late in the arvo for a brief session, to see if they were still there. The fishing was decidely slower than the previous day, but Dene managed to nail two great fish, including the one below. As we were heading home we decided to have a couple of casts at the same place I caught the whiting yesterday. Second cast, and I watched an underwater torpedo come streaking out of the weeds and smash my popper. Short time later 40cm of sold whiting having his photo taken before being released to the water for another day. Dene informs me that the tides are going to be even better next weekend so I guess we'll be whistling these deadly little lures around next weekend! Hodgey
  11. Great report Squizy, and to the site! Littlie looks chuffed with her latest conquest. A little Leanne Payne of the future I reckon! Looking forward to more reports from H & C before you re-locate back to Toowoomba and start slaying the bass, ya lucky bugger!! Hodgey
  12. Hopefully chasing Bass in the upper reaches of the river, otherwise, chasing Flatties on soft plastics. Either way ... Hodgey
  13. Great report, Robeebee! Sounds like you got onto a good feed of fish, and that Flatty is fan-bloody-tastic! Hodgey
  14. Woo Hoo!! An old army buddy has just returned from Afghanistan and is bringing his tribe down for a week. Haven't seen him since I left the military 2 years ago, so there is some major plans for and Saturday - Chase Flathead and Bream on Soft Plastic Sunday - Chase Flathead and Bream on Fly and Hard Bodies Monday - Chase anything and everything (with the 5 kids) using bait Fingers crossed at least one of the days is not blowin' a gale again Good luck to all! Hodgey

  19. G'day all Like a lot of the state, we had some wild and woolly weather on the weekend. There has been some big run-in tides into the lake making the water crystal clear and icy cold, so Dene and I headed up the river in search of better color and temperature. Almost impossible to drift with the plastics but perservered regardless. Fished for 6 hours and could only produce 3 under-sized fish ... and this girl 73cm of prime Flatty. She was thick and heavy and in great condition. Released after a happy snap. The following day I ventured further up the river and targetted some fallen timber with plastics to see if the bream had started to return yet. Sorry about the quality of the photo. Measured 42cm and was taken on an un-weighted Squidgy Bug in Casper. All in all, not a bad couple of days considering the attrocious weather conditions. Hodgey
