G'Day all
Saturday found Dene and I chasing Flathead once again, but as stated in previous posts, they have gone quiet at the moment. Basically, we caught three in 6 hours and none of them were real exciting. (our worst performance in many months )
Undeterred, we tied on a couple of poppers and went exploring some VERY skinny water. Dene was working the popper for bream and I was targetting whiting. *BANG! The popper is absolutely creamed by what turned out to be a whiting roughly 38cm. A promising start! Entered another little stretch of water and then the fun and games began!
The water was teeming with bream of all sizes and our little poppers were slurped at, bumped, kissed and down-right smashed for a good hour and a half. Staying connected to the buggers was another issue but we still managed four very good bream.
Sunday afternoon we decided to head back to the same place late in the arvo for a brief session, to see if they were still there. The fishing was decidely slower than the previous day, but Dene managed to nail two great fish, including the one below. As we were heading home we decided to have a couple of casts at the same place I caught the whiting yesterday. Second cast, and I watched an underwater torpedo come streaking out of the weeds and smash my popper. Short time later 40cm of sold whiting having his photo taken before being released to the water for another day.
Dene informs me that the tides are going to be even better next weekend so I guess we'll be whistling these deadly little lures around next weekend!
