  1. I recall something on this forum last year about 2 elderly gentlemen getting fined/gear confiscated for the same thing so I'd say it has been around for a while?

This is the salt water regulation link:

    http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/methods

and here is the relevant info from it

    Recreational equipment permitted

    Maximum number permitted per person

Total number of rods or lines - 4 rods or handlines

Unfortunately there is no mention of them being rigged/unrigged so it would suggest that it means 4 in total?

  2. Some great fish caught on the light stuff. They're a lot of fun and offer a suitable diversion if nothing else wants to play. Ask around your mates and see if any of them are chasing reds. Carp fillets stored in the freezer heavily salted are spectacular snapper bait.

  3. Unlike Carp, Redfin have the added bonus of being highly palatable :biggrin2:

They are aggressive feeders and will fall to most bream/trout style lures, but here is a couple of favorites that are proving successful at the moment:

    Gold Ondex spinners

Small Stumpjumpers in Gold or purple

50mm Squidgy Fish in Killer Tomato

1/8 oz spinnerbaits in purple or red/black

    TN60 Jackalls

Redfin often school in big numbers and will provide plenty of entertainment. They readily attack moving lures so a slow/medium roll back to the boat/bank is usually enough to make them commit to your lure. They like holding off weedbeds close to the bank but are just as comfortable hunting through 20+ ft of water. I reckon they are the flathead of freshwater ... the buggers will have a go at just about anything!

  4. Maybe I and others whom choose to put back Carp if caught need educating on the impact they do have on the environment.

I for one really don't have an understanding on how much damage they do cause, hence my choice to put them back if caught.

I think my decision would change if properly educated, and could see exactly what impact they are having.

I understand they are an introduced species along with rabbits etc, but thats about as far as it goes.

If anyone can find any articles on the above mentioned, please add links, I would be interested to read.

This is a very good article for you to start with:

    Carp info

It gives a very good summary of the issues surrounding these fish but it also address some of the popular misnomers. Well worth a read!

  5. That said, if Carp really do cause such destruction to our native waterways, why don't fisheries enforce a catch & kill policy?

The answer to that is simple. Fisheries have stated that they do not have the right to force people (such as yourself) to kill something, regardless of its feral status. I agree with kermadum and offroad fisherman, and despatch all feral fish and animals. Right or wrong, in this instance, the choice is yours and you can act as you see fit.

  6. Excellent report as always Roberta! :yahoo:

I had an abbreviated trip down there this year and only spend 24 hours fishing. We usually camp at Kyffens for the 4 days but this year we stayed on the river at Forge Pump Beach 2. Much better camping area...but ridiculous amount of boat traffic and noise :mad3: Back to Kyffens for us next year.

Quite a few yellas and trout cod bought back to camp but the cod were a little quiet; especially on lure. I landed one @ 51cm on a green hammerhead hardbody with my third cast, but that was to be my only one for the short trip.

    Cheers

  7. Well done mate. Good to see you got into a few fish and you have added to your knowledge pool. You'll be able to utilise your new techniques in lots of other places as well!

A bloody shame some twit pinched your gear though. :ranting2: :ranting2: :ranting2:

    Cheers
