I agree with the one hook through the nose theory if fishing just for Kings but some of my best catches havent been the targeted species hence the reason i pop one down near the tail in case of a Jew or big greenback strike

Mate, i was out last weekend... We caught loads of rat kings.... We caught them on the downrigger but we lost the bomb off the downrigger and had just as much luck using the following method...... Large running ball sinker on mainline, to swivel onto leader.... Down to snelled 2 hook rig with live yakkas or dead Cally Squid.... Drop your bait to the bottom then just click your biat into gear a troll around 2 knots.... South Head is the place to be. Balmoral is the place to get the yakkas... Beach fishing just hasnt grabbed me, probably because i have never done any good, i am obviously fishing the wrong times, places and not doing it enough....

Put the boat in at tunks park, it is a short drive round to south head, just off the gap therre is an artificial reef that holds all sorts of species but lately the kingfish are everywhere, soft plastics work, dead baits ( squid and pillies) and trawling lures or xmas tree skirts will also bring on the fish
