I've been taking two rods, and leaving the float one by itself and fishing strips of squid floated down, no sinker. I was using heavy line one of the times (10kg) I think I'm going to try to use 5kg from now one. Is mono ok or should I use braid? I'd have no idea how to tie a leader. I think I got on the bandwagon a little late, missed all the kings by one or two weeks. I'm going to keep trying throughout march, was thinking of posting my experiences in a thread :\ Thanks for all the advice

I'm going to try again this week, got some good tips from people on how to improve my chances. Last friday I had live/fresh squid under a float for about 6 hours for nothing though, and the two weeks before that were similar stories, so I'm trying to refine the techniques. One positive is that I have no troubles at all getting fresh squid even when they aren't about in big numbers - I've taken about 10 in two outings, even got one on a little metal lure meant for bonito. I've been tempted to just book a charter or something so I can catch a king and go back to getting some sleep, but I kinda want to do it properly myself

I rigged a live squid, but it was a bit late in the day I think... it just got torn to pieces by little stuff. I'll probably see you there again some time... didn't seem too promising a spot, but I'm willing to give it some patience because it's close for me

the best part about that book is that the guy is decked out in true 80's fashion with tighter than tight shorts and a fat moustache.

there was a couple of asian dudes there a group of 2 next to me, then a dude with his girlfriend that left, and a few other caucasian guys. Nice to meet you anyway if it was you. Everyone was pretty friendly there, pity there wasn't more kings to go round - just the one for one of the guys :\

Only one was landed while i was there (6 hours) there was a couple around, but not many biting. The mackrel were everywhere though. I expect there to be a million people around on the weekend, because it was quite busy for a friday morning. Let us know how you do.

hey were you the guy i was fishin next to this morning? I'm the guy who is hopeless at netting Late in the day (11:30 or so) a couple of kings turned up hitting the baitfish but they wouldn't touch any baits or lures
